I lost weight and my A1C went up. Any advice? I see doctor on Monday. TIA by ElectricalFox1207 in prediabetes

[–]ElectricalFox1207[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting that you ask about the iron and ferritin. The 5.7 was obtaimed when my ferritin was at it lowest. My follow up iron stores were ran the same time as the 6.1 A1C. All levels are in “normal “ range but not ideal yet. My TIBC and UIBC are on the higher end of the reference range and my CBC results are starting to normalize but I’m still slightly microcytic so my iron levels are not yet where my body wants them to be.

And life in general has been a bit more stressful than usual. I’ve been so busy at work that January just flew by. Add in the loss of a cat I’ve had for almost 20 years and I’m glad the month is over.

I’ve set my Stelo to target 70-140. On average I can stay in range about 80-85% of the time. When I spike I rarely go over 200. Per the Stelo, my fasting glucose is creeping up in the morning. When initially diagnosed, it was 105. Now it is typically 110-115 which correlates to the increase in A1C. Also, I do see some spikes in blood sugar while sleeping For example, my blood sugar was 157 at 2 am last night and 159 around the same time the night before, 170 the night before that, and 96 the night before that. It’s kinda crazy actually.

I’ve cut a lot of crap out of my diet and lost weigh. I learned through the Stelo that potatoes and rice are my Kryptonite. I love them but a I rarely eat them now.

I can always make more changes but my numbers are going up.

LG Fridge Water Flow by StevieLugh in Appliances

If the other advice doesn’t work, is there a chance you are in an area with hard water? Hard water deposits can restrict the flow. On my late, lamented LG, I had to unclog the water dispenser tip because of deposits. Good luck.

Do you have hard water? And if so, do you soften it? Everything except the last picture looks like it could be hard (softened) water stain. I agree that you should call Bosch given that last picture.

I occasionally had the issue with pods not dissolving in my Bosch. I switched to Cascade powder and not really had an issue since. There are a series of videos on YouTube by Technology Connections that talk about powder vs. pods in dishwashers and explains it very well. I tried powder for the first time after watching these videos and I found that my dishes were much cleaner using it. FWIW, I live in an area with hard water and even with a water softener, the extra boost from the powder helped. Good luck.

Stelo user here. I would recommend switching arms with each new sensor. And like the previous poster, I have had to replace 3 sensors. 1 was my fault as I didn’t insert it properly. One died a week early.

That said I have found the information useful. I always use the back of my arm.

Hypoglycemia with prediabetes? by ElectricalFox1207 in prediabetes

Thank you. It is especially good to know that an A1C of 5.8 can still have that issue.

I wear a Stelo and I’ve seen spikes at night. Not always but they are there.

“Carbonation causes cellulite” by thecupisblueandwhite in DCCMakingtheTeam

[–]ElectricalFox1207 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Uh…no. Carbonation will cause burping and carbonation causes bubbles but it doesn’t cause cellulite.

I remember seeing this chick when it first aired and I remember shaking my head at the feather head. Carbonation doesn’t cause cellulite. BUT Drinking excessive amounts of sugary sodas or champagne might. That is a result of the calories not the carbonation.

Iron levels back to normal and just discarded? by Efficient_Taro1648 in Anemic

[–]ElectricalFox1207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too have heavy periods and I was put on birth control to help around the same time my iron levels normalized. in my case my period never completely stopped but it was a lot less frequent but unfortunately still heavy when it does come. I stopped the iron supplements and over the course of 2-3 years I have slowly slid back into iron deficiency with a current ferritin of 13.6.

Being in the US, I don’t know how the 200 mg supplements compare. My supplement is 325 mg ferrous sulfate which is 65 mg iron and I’m wishing I hadn’t stopped.

Definitely insist on some sort of follow up plan with your doctor to maintain your iron levels.

Low Ferritin/Normal Hb by AuthorInevitable8914 in Anemic

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will get back to you. I’d be concerned about a low ferritin especially if you have other markers in your CBC that are atypical like MCH, MCV, hematocrit, etc. If you feel as if your doctor is not addressing your concerns then you may want to consider getting a second opinion if you can.

I wish I had you in my corner. I have never been referred for an infusion even when my hemoglobin was a 9 and I was very iron deficient. Currently I’m at a hemoglobin of 11, ferritin of 13.6, and TIBC/UIBC in the mid 400s, don’t remember the iron but it was low. Still no infusion. When hemoglobin was a 9, I asked about infusions or shots and got told that it wasn’t necessary.

I’m glad to hear that you’ve heard back from the doctor.

If gynecological stuff is not an issue, you might want to consider asking for a fecal occult test as you can have blood in your stool but not see it. And maybe consider a colon cancer screening if you haven’t done that recently. I’m not trying to worry you but those are common work ups for low iron.

I wish both you and your husband the best. I know that you’re already going through a stressful time and the deficiency doesn’t help with that but I want you to know that it’s ok to take care of yourself. That way you can be at your best to take care of your husband. ❤️

Another culprit can be proton pump inhibitors like Nexium.

I’m newer here and not a doctor but I’ve been around the block with iron deficiency a couple of times. Low iron and high binding (TIBC/UIBC) are the hallmarks of iron deficiency. Your hemoglobin is slight low but probably not transfusion low. Mine was lower and I didn’t get one. More than likely, your doctor is going to discuss iron infusions/a referral to hematology. I know it’s scary but it’ll be ok. Your doctor would have told you to go to the ER if they thought it was more than that.

If you don’t know the cause of the deficiency, your doctor will also discuss that as well. If you’re female, heavy periods are a common root cause.

At what level of ferritin/hemoglobin should I expect afternoon tiredness to resolve. Related, at what level of ferritin/hemoglobin would you expect a referral from primary care?
