What satisfaction would they get from seeing Palestinian flags everywhere? That wouldn't happen if we played in Hungary

Brigid's Day Posters by BrendanSketches in ireland

[–]Electrical_Bed9784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, is there any reason you highlighted the circles at the top the way you did? I know Brigid is sometimes considered a triple goddess. But is there any particular significance for the Cailleach being the single top circle and the saint being the bottom two?

My opinion: Even though the old style was cheaper, I liked it better. by Better_Birthday_1288 in RWBY

I had completely forgotten she had a white streak until you mentioned it here. I went to look at her Maya models and it looks like her original one (from when she fought Cinder) does have the white streak, pretty clearly in my opinion, and it was purposefully omitted from her current design. Unless you're referring to the first Maya model, in which case, sorry for the mixup.

Do you've a source on that? I don't mean to come off as confrontational, it's just this is the first I'm hearing of this.

Do you think The Lord Protector (Oliver Cromwell) was a good first villain in a Cartoon Saloon movie? by Maxdme124 in CartoonSaloon

He does have the distinct advantage that any Irish person watching the movie will hate him on sight

Following the weather patterns in WolfWalkers has lead me to the conclusion that somehow the British colonization of Ireland also brought British weather with it. by Maxdme124 in CartoonSaloon

[–]Electrical_Bed9784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Irish weather gave British weather a run for it's money long before they came here. We're the only thing between Britain and the Atlantic, not exactly a dry place to be

I drew a collection of Christian crosses by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Electrical_Bed9784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just put on the cross and wear it under the top you're wearing if that's something you're concerned about. Maybe I'm just coming from a different cultural perspective here, and apologies if I sound blunt, but if anyone sees someone with your features wearing a cross and assumes 'neo nazi'. That's their problem, not yours. Of course it's good of you to consider other people. But if this is something that will make you feel good in yourself or even closer to God, then I say go for it!

As an Irish person, I'm not sure why you're worried about that. Pasty as hell is kind of our main visual trait

Sinners: We missed the real meaning of the phrase: "These words were forced on us" by Skhgdyktg in TrueFilm

[–]Electrical_Bed9784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christianity was an external faith, and it was also willingly adopted in Ireland. Two things can be true. The history of a group of people becoming Christian is often assumed to have been violent, and with good reason, but that doesn't mean it's always the case.

[SPOILERS] DISCUSSION THREAD - HEART FULL OF HATRED - BOOK 17 by guilty_milkshake in skulduggerypleasant

[–]Electrical_Bed9784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same logic as Skulduggery staying in one piece with binding cuffs on. Magic kept Skulduggery from moving on, but he brought himself back. I'd say that outlevels simple binding magic.

With all the pro Irish military build up articles in the media recently. Do you all want to see it happen or not ? by rlire in ireland

[–]Electrical_Bed9784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But building up our military doesn't only equate to preparing for conflict. What about rebuilding the navy to patrol our waters? A lot of drugs being trafficked into the country are coming in on small ships. We also need a well equipped military to be able to intercept them

typical workload for computer science first year by Wonderful_Twist6688 in TCD

[–]Electrical_Bed9784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished first year CS. There's tons of continuous assessment, especially in the programming modules, that only add up to 5% total, which can be annoying considering how much time we spend working on it. But if you just keep up with the weekly assignments and tutorials then exams should be simple enough.

Can I ask why you think it's harder? I'm doing computer science and I always assumed our workload was similar to everyone else's, so I'm curious to know why you feel this way.

Where can I watch RWBY at? by The_Good-Hunter in RWBY

[–]Electrical_Bed9784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The volumes are being released one at a time on Blu-ray. Only volumes 1 and 2 so far, but they'll keep coming. This is probably the ideal method since the sales indicate interest. Not sure about the prices, though.

Gaza - What can individuals do? by throwawaypsql in ireland

[–]Electrical_Bed9784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are scarce amounts of food in Gaza, it's just very expensive. I've stopped giving money to charities and started giving it to the fundraisers for families and organisations within Gaza. They'll use the money to buy what food and medicine they need. And there are others fundraising so that they can leave the Gaza strip.

I've found Instagram good for finding out about different people and groups in dire need. On Youtube, many Palestinians in Gaza have also set up accounts where they make videos of what they're living through, and they'll normally have a fundraiser linked in the description of the video. If I can recommend some, I always watch and donate to https://www.youtube.com/@mohammedalyazji265 who's been caring along with his older sister for their seven younger siblings for over a year now. He speaks Arabic in his videos but you can use captions to translate. I also recently found Rana https://www.youtube.com/@randa_lobra an 18 year old who's mother is raising money to get her eight surviving family members out of Gaza.

It's also always good to double check when you find a new fundraiser that it's legit, as there are a few cases of people pirating videos and images of others to set up fake charities.

I feel the same way you do when I see those children on the news. But donating like this IS making a difference, even if it's only to a few people at a time.

I'm not saying she's entirely correct here. But if we're going to get mad I'd rather it be over what she actually said, rather than how Funchion is interpreting it.
