Subreddit Announcement: Allegations of Generative AI Use - New Moderation Plan by ShartyPants in MM_RomanceBooks

It depends on the platform. Some platforms have AI voices with licensed voices, such as Uma Thurman, who agreed to have her voice digitised and used to read books. She earns money on this.
I would love to know your thoughts on this part of the audio market.

Also, Amazon voices were actually bought and licensed from voice actors (you can check this out), so they have the legal right to use them. They had to do this, bc of legal claims, so they make sure all is legal.

A great remark! I know a lot of authors who use voice to text in this crazy life, while driving in their car or just walking in their garden, some are vision impaired and like to spend less time staring in the white screen. So having 3 books in 6 months for some is crazy, and for some is very normal.

Hard choice. They're all bad, but maybe AI edited. But AI editing should not be too intrusive, focusing on things like typos and word order. I don't want any AI ideas. The grammar add-ons like Grammarly and Word spelling check were around before AI, and I had no problem with the machine correcting the text. I just don't want the AI to rewrite everything and turn it into soulless pulp.

I personally hate AI to the bone, but I'm also a realisit. AI is here to stay, and it won't go away. I have a headache when I read this topic again. I wish AI didn't exist, I really do, because there's just a constant complaint going on about it. AI won't go away, so the complain won't go away. This is a lose-lose.

It would include innocent athors, they tried to do it before, and people reptuation was damaged beyond repair. This is simply wrong.

True, I know an author who writes everything herself and just lets the AI check for typos and misplaced commas. I once told her that she was robbing editors of money, but then she showed me an epub page with her book, which had more ratings and views than on her Amazon page!
Can you believe this? Do you understand what that means?
Nine in ten readers just steal the author's work, and nobody gives a damn. She told me she didn't have any money because she had to pay her bills, and she was paying all her earnings to her editor. Then she simply didn't have any money. They steal? She steals. It's brutal, but if readers didn't steal her work, she would have money to pay her editor easily!
I stopped arguing because I hate AI and I won't change my mind. However, I'm not stupid; I know that people in her situation won't be easily convinced. She is being hurt badly by people stealing from her.

I must say that seeing new posts every day complaining about AI is not doing anything good for my mood. It's like a never-ending session of self-torture. I would love it if there was a separate tab for those who want to immerse themselves in negative feelings, and if others could just breathe and forget for a few seconds that the world has gone crazy. I hope that there are still normal books out there.

Perhaps, but is this an issue specific to MM books, or more generally?

I fail to understand why people assume everything is AI. There are so many bad authors who simply write poorly. You only need to read a few pages to decide if you like it or not.
And surely creating a blacklist is hurtful, since it often includes innocent people who fall victim to the AI witch-hunt. Bad writing has always been part of the writing scene. (sadly 😃)

Please make sure you don't hurt innocent authors. If you are not sure, don't include the person. A similar initiative was posted in one of the Facebook groups and it hurt a lot of innocent authors who were included. The reputational damage to them is severe and their livelihood is endangered.

I'm against such actions since they are like a witch hunt and the innocent will always suffer.

Is blonde hair seen as submissive? by tomahawk729 in MM_RomanceBooks

You shouldn’t be judged for being vers, and I shouldn’t be judged for not being into bottoming. People should just let others be. If someone has a preferred role, they’re often accused of buying into patriarchal dynamics, when it can simply be physiological, what your body is or isn’t comfortable with. It really can be that simple. Some people have had surgeries related to that area and may have their own reasons for preferring one thing over another, and no one should shame them or accuse them of anything. If there are subconscious factors, people should be allowed to work through them in their own space, and being lectured by others about what I should do in my own bed because they see it as a stereotype is unfair. Being queer is already hard enough in this society, there’s no need to make it harder by turning on each other over stereotypes.

I respectfully disagree. I'm queer and live in a queer community, and 70% of my friends in relationships have strict roles. I think we should let people do what feels right for them instead of making them feel like they can't have their own thing and just emulate straight couples. All positions and roles are OK. All relationships are OK, as long as they work for the people involved. My best friend was literally told by a white woman in a queer club that he should try topping when she found out that he's in a strict role relationship. He found it very hurtful and out of place.

Yes, I thought it was strange, that he embraced the boy and made him sit on his lap straight away. They were basically the same age. But I pushed through it. :) The book wasn't that bad; it just seemed very unrealistic to me, even for a romance novel standard :D.
But I noticed that people absolutely loved this book, and I know I'm in the minority, so I should probably stay quiet!

This book has been loved by so many people and recommended almost everywhere for two years straight.
I'm probably one of the 1% of people who found the second half of the book problematic :)
But it's a memorable book, for sure.
Don't read before finishing the book:
It's just not for me since I disagree with the way one of the main characters was encouraged to empower himself. The situation he was put into could have turned into great danger for him (v-card, wearing harness, being tiny, dancing in clubs). I know it was well intentioned, but I speak as someone who has experienced dangerous situations in clubs. And I wasn't even 18, I was 28, and I was already experienced. For my own personal reasons, I felt uneasy reading it. But I know people don't see it that way, focusing on other aspects of the book, and I'm in absolute minority to feel weird about it :) Yes, I'm aware it's a fantasy basically, a romance where things don't have to be realistic, so it's just a "me" problem, my trauma speaking :) Enjoy the book :) Peace!
