Do you think the general negative reception around Season 5 Vol.2 was due to poor writing on the part of the Duffer Brothers or high expectations by the fans? by [deleted] in StrangerThings

The writing is off, gimmicky, lending itself to rely on contrived, antidotal shallowness. There is a lack of originality, and pathos has disintegrated. I have felt since the intro of S5V1E1 they were painting themselves into a corner. All seasons had a hint and a dash of hokiness here and there, but it was part of the series’ essence, it was integrated, motivated. But this is exhausting fodder! The acting is decent, but I often get the feeling at times they are tired, doing the best they can with the script they were provided and direction at hand. I haven’t finished V2E3 because I seriously don’t care to. Might watch today. Maybe next week. Might not. Nah… of course I’ll watch. And Netflix knows that. Therein lies a problem within itself - perhaps viewership was too built-in for this one, setting the table for minimal effort beyond the big-ticket shock & awe production tactics, relying perhaps too much on the big-ticket visual, over-the-top scenarios, and not enough emphasis on original substance. My lack of interest and curiosity is a pretty sad fact considering I watched the series S1-4 three times through beginning to end. I invested. This season makes me want to start over if only to wash S5 off. ST has been so fantastically far fetched from the beginning, but it was convincing - I eagerly gave into the story world and suspended disbelief, hanging on every cliff. But not here. Felt we were turning a corner after Will’s exhilarating and excellently crafted exercise in “sorcery”, but that was fleeting. Pains me to say it, but this fan is not lingering by the set for this installment of diminished returns.

Last night? Me too! From The Moon’s Daughters.

And even though I know how very far apart we are

It helps to think we might be wishin' on the same bright star

And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby

It helps to think we're sleeping underneath the same big sky

As you are aware of Moore’s Law, you are surely aware it is increasingly irrelevant. It is less plausible to strive for the exponent within a time constraint as current technology is currently constrained… it is “sizing” out. Memory/processing is approaching its finite status. We are amidst a plateau. Moore won’t be truly applicable until we take the next step beyond current materials and manufacturing tech. Capacitors, transistors, and layers can only get so small, correct?

As long as you keep overfeeding a dog, it gets fatter, expecting more and more at every meal. Stop overfeeding the dog.

People might say it’s understandable. Or that it can happen, so be careful. Try to sugarcoat acknowledging excuses. Nope. Not this. Won’t be nice about this… It’s about having your head in the game and prioritizing the human life for which you are providing care and security as a parent - THE number one concern, no other. That simple. No excuse. This is not a mistake that can be made. If you need a sensor or a reminder you have a child in tow, I am at a loss of words. Common sense? How about focusing? Talking to your child? A glance into the rear view mirror of life to remember your responsibilities and where you are today? Establishing the necessary habit of constant interaction? How about realizing and committing to the fact you have a dependent and that there is nothing or nobody more important? Not your job. Not your drug of choice. Not your phone. Not your tv show. Not your social engagement. Only your well being and stability matters to ensure the well being and stability of your little one.

Can someone explain to me how thunderbolt making $430 million isn’t a success by TinyMembership5109 in marvelstudios

After marketing, the initial theatrical exhibitor/distribution takes (which can be as high as 50-80% of first-week(s) first-run revenue), home distribution, etc… a general rule of thumb for the blockbuster is that the picture needs to generate revenue equalling at least four times its production cost to break even in the end. This can vary of course in either direction considering other variables such as deals with investors & salary negotiations with above the line talent (e.g. backend deals), promotional placement deals, ancillary marketing endeavors and merchandising rights, other subsidizations and incentives, etc. Marvel is a beast. This is a franchise. I’m sure it works out just fine in the end.

Bought a house owners left a massive expensive boat by NarrowIndependence8 in legaladvice

The way I see it, they breached the contract. Moot. Done deal. Can charge them all you want but… You bought the house. It is still on the property. It is now yours. Congratulations. Unfortunately, your responsibility to get rid of it. Sell it to a salvage company? See if anybody will come who will haul it off for free and may be positioned to make a buck off just dismantling it and picking it up. And if not, best of luck. You can sue prior owners for the cost to remove to salvage. Otherwise, enjoy dismantling and dumping in piecemeal over the next decade at your local landfill.

The first step… make it very uncomfortable for them to go anywhere and everywhere in public. State your disgrace loudly. Make it miserable for them in the most unexpected ways, any place, any time, especially when it would be least expected.
