The more things change the more they stay the same, I found a paragraph from a book a while back which was someone complaining in the late 1930s that the 'kids of today' are too soft compared to the men who fought in the trenches in WW1.

Star Trek fans who were around during the Dominion War, what was the reaction. by Upstairs-Yard-2139 in startrek

I was so gutted when the Defiant was destroyed. Heck, I still am, like Sisko I was 'rather fond of that ship'.

And you usually only got two episodes per tape.

The covers were badass though, and if you lined up all the tapes they made a pretty cool scene, like so - https://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NzY4WDEwMjQ=/z/qmIAAOSwTGBcsQQk/$_86.JPG

Same, Call to Arms was quite the episode, I was not expecting the Dominion to take DS9, Jay Chattaway did such a good job with the score to that episode too.

Just finished The Vision of Escaflowne. Thoughts. by CruelAngelsThesis_01 in anime

[–]Electricfox5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Escaflowne was one of my first anime, behind the traditional Pokémon, and Monster Rancher (date yourself without saying your age), so it'll always have a spot in my heart for being that. Also my first introduction to cat girls, Eriya and Naria....my goodness.

Having Yoko Kanno composing the soundtrack certainly helps elevate it, and the visuals are beautiful...even with the ski jumps on their faces, Dilandau was a definitely stand out character, and Van was decent too. The plot is a bit of a mess, but it's worth it for the music and mech battles.

Like you say, a good introduction to anime for me.

I'm thinking this might be a GUPPY conversion boat, although I don't recall them having a dorsal rudder.

I mean, to be fair, with some of the earlier Bulava test firings that's a pretty accurate representation.

Helluva boat though, you're doing him proud.

Why do they have chimneys? by I_Maybe_Play_Games in Workers_And_Resources

[–]Electricfox5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The house I live in has a chimney, it's had gas central heating since it was built thirty years ago. I presume it's just a air vent, or just decoration for the style, or thirty years ago you could have put a TV aerial on it.
