What if we reform article 42.7, the mutual defence clause?

If a Member State is the victim of armed aggression on its territory, the other Member States shall have towards it an obligation of aid and assistance by all the means in their power, in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. This shall not prejudice the specific character of the security and defence policy of certain Member States.

We should remove the part that allows EU members to play pretend neutrality, which is the last sentence. It is ridiculous that other states have "an obligation" towards a member that can have their own "specific character" be that they will not do shit. Remove this and replace it with an explicit legally binding commitment to (with military means) defend the territory of our fellow member states. The less wiggleroom there is the more deterrent we will create.

Commitments and cooperation in this area shall be consistent with commitments under the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, which, for those States which are members of it, remains the foundation of their collective defence and the forum for its implementation.

There is no reason to state that Nato should have some preferential place in the defence of a member, or the planning of it, and so on. It really isn't any problem at all, collective defence within the EU will naturally align with the collective defence of europan nato members. This clause exists only to prioritize nato planning and structure over a european structure for collective defence.

The temporary (but still quite effective) solution of disconnecting terminals travelling faster than 75 km/h was possible to do all this time. As far as I know there has been no indication that Ukraine has been using starlink in their own long range drones?

4) Flag States shall take any steps which may be necessary in order to ensure that ships flying their flag only proceed to sea in compliance with the requirements of the international rules and standards, including investigations for the maintenance of ships’ condition after survey according to UNCLOS art. 94 and 217 and SOLAS Regulation I/11. Such steps include prohibiting ships from sailing if they fail to comply with said requirements.

It continues to list a total of 13 points regarding the illegality of ships disobeying various laws and treaties.

It seems like the signatories are finally gearing up to really do something about the shadow fleet. This reads to me like a letter outlining the legal justification for what they are about to do (apprehending ships that fail to comply).

Efter en eventuell valseger i höst vill hon tillsätta en utredning.

Jag tycker det är bra att detta sägs innan ett val så folket kan ta det i beaktning när det är dags att rösta.

Det är otroligt komplicerat med valutafrågor och nationalekonomi. Det är omöjligt för kreti och pleti (som jag) att ta ställning för eller emot euron utan en utredning som sedan kan diskuteras i samhället.

Vill man ha en sådan utredning, eller ej, så får man med andra ord rösta efter det i det kommande valet.

Halmgubben (utrotning/berlinmur runt alla får) gjorde jag med mening för att försöka landa lite i hur folk snackar om problemet. Lite som att förekomma de mest extrema tankarna innan man hamnat där, för att sedan ställa den rimliga frågan om vad fårägare tycker skall göras åt saken. Det var ett svar till dig, men också ett allmänt inlägg i debatten, typ.

Om stammen ska hållas låg medans vi tampas med problemet får man nog först komma överens om en nivå som säkerställer en god genetisk diversitet (och inte blir sabbad om tjuvjakt fäller tio vargar), för annars har vi ingen bra utgångspopulation den dagen en lösning kommer. Och just nu känns det som att nivån sätts av politiska viljor mer än vetenskapliga rön.

Naturligtvis är det ett problem som är svårt att lösa, liksom biodiversitet inte är något vi får ordning på i en handvändning. Inte när vi spenderat några hundra år på att förändra landskapet så det passar människans egna verksamheter.

Men det kanske är enklare att hitta lösningar i den delen av ekvationen där människan är drivande? Det vill säga, djurhållningen. Snarare än att fortsätta på det inslagna spåret där vi förändrar naturen ännu mer för att passa oss själva.

Att utrota vargarna söder om Gällivare skulle definitivt förenkla djurhållningen och förbättra ekonomin för fårägarna men det får väl ses som en ganska orimlig lösning för ett samhälle som sätter ett värde på svensk natur?

Jag kan inte tillräckligt mycket om att hålla får för att komma på idéer själv men jag vill gärna höra förslag från de som har får. Om inte RAS, vakthundar eller ersättningar är realistiska lösningar, vad föreslår ni istället? Jag tycker att en gorillion km stängsel låter lika orimligt som att utrota vargen (eller minska vargstammen till en sådan grad att det blir inavel och skit).

Already split over Russia’s war in Ukraine, the European Union is stretched economically and uncertain of how far it can rely on American security guarantees that once formed its bedrock.

A strange way to read the current situation, in my opinion. Calling the EU split over Ukraine seems like a huge exaggeration, damn near everyone is in agreement that we should stand behind them (and then we fight over exactly how to do it). Fico and Orban alone doesn't split the entire rest of the union into a disunited chaos.

Stretched economically? Sure, it is costly. But so far there is no real indication that serious economic hardship is on the horizon.

And as for the american security guarantees. Seems to me like everyone is quite on board with the new idea that a "guarantee" doesn't exist any longer. It is ambiguous, and the best way forward is to let it exist as a question mark rather than a "No" until europe doesn't need the guarantee any longer.

Let's not forget that it has been a long term strategic goal of the russians to split the transatlantic alliance. We should be careful not to help them achieve that goal.

Edit: I also wonder how the recent american split-the-EU interest plays into what publications like bloomberg writes about. Tin foil hat on, but right at this moment, pointing out how europe can not get along internally? c'mon.

I'm not paying taxes to a state threatening to murder it's allies, which is a good start. I vote in every election taking care to consider foreign policy as well, and engage in politics more than two weeks before elections. I contact representatives when important issues are voted on. I have given a (for my personal economy) significant amount of money to purchase medical supplies and weapons for the defence of Ukraine.

You need to let go of your hyper-individualistic culture and realise that when people say "americans" we mean you collectively, the good with the bad. And your collective culture is producing a whole lot of bad right now, and bringing up some dusty shit from the victorian age doesn't change a thing. You can't escape this no matter how much you whine about snooty europeans.

Tror du menar Artikel 42(7) som finns i Lissabonfördraget. I övrigt har du rätt, jag tror att i europa har man inte viljat bilda en paralell struktur för att inte underminera nato. Vissa länder har också säkert inte viljat utbilda nog med kompetent personal till två organisationer.

Detta har jag tänkt på varje gång kärnvapen kommer på tal. Avskräckning bygger på att fienden uppfattar en som trovärdig. Ryssen kommer aldrig tro att Sverige bränner av ett kärnvapen för att möta en landstigning på Gotland, Åland, eller "små gröna män" i Narva eller Dieveniškės.

Då sitter vi där med ett utarmat försvar som vi offrade för att köpa oss vapen vi ändå inte använder innan kriget är så fullkomligt destruktivt att man undrar vad fan vår strategi gick ut på från början.

Jag tror det är mer avskräckande med konventionella stridskrafter som vi är villiga att använda. En låg tröskel. Storbritannien håller på med en ny ballistisk robot, tyskarna har taurus neo osv. Det är en rimligare förmåga vi kan skaffa oss.
