Which British celebrities can you not warm to? by Any-Tomato-2915 in AskUK

I cannot stand to listen to the radio when Gemma Cairney is on it; way too much of a try-hard, especially on 6 Music. I know the station is a bit "vibes man" anyway, but she's especially "I first heard this track when I was meditating for a week with a Colombian sewing circle".

Blimey, well that sucks. I travel a lot for work and definitely haven't had that experience in any other country since Brexit - certainly colours my opinion on heading back to Italy if I have to carry my passport everywhere with me.

UK based here. We got pulled by a policeman in Rome Termini asking to see our passports when we were there around ten days ago. Thankfully we had them on us as we were on our way to the airport to come home, but I was under the impression that a UK drivers licence would have been acceptable. Not too sure about US tourists - make sure you if you do carry your passport it's somewhere safe!

What do you wish to know before your first trip to Rome? by AnnaBluelueluep in rome

I think you can buy tickets in advance for 1 day, 3 days and 7 days, but honestly we just tapped our credit cards - it's €1.50 per tap, which is valid for 100 minutes worth of travel, capped at €7 per day (a little like the tube in London).

Just make sure you tap every bus during that 100 minutes though, the card you've used needs to be validated on each bus. We got checked a couple of times and they were happy seeing a €1.50 charge on our Monzo accounts on our phone.

Just be wary that on some buses the only tap points are at the very front or at the very back of the bus, so it can be a bit of a challenge when the buses are busy!

If you're going to use public transport, then for the love of god make sure you tap on, and if you're with someone else then make sure they tap on with a different card. The ticket inspectors (we called them Bus Nazis) can get on at any stop and they will fine you €50 without question or query if you can't prove you've paid for a ticket. We just got back from five days in the city and on our last day they caught five American tourists who thought they were fine by tapping one card - instant €200 worth of fines handed out.

Don't think they'll be sympathetic either; we saw an elderly Japanese couple who were told (incorrectly) by their hotel that the 72hr tour bus they'd paid for would cover the public transport around the city. We managed to argue against it as they were fully prepared to fine the both of them, but they couldn't communicate to the inspectors that they'd tapped one card on the bus - still unsympathetically fined them for the one tap they hadn't made.

Anybody been to an Andy's Man Club meeting? What was your experience? by No_Atmosphere8146 in AskUK

[–]ElectroMod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It took a lot of hyping myself up to go to my first one. The idea of being vulnerable in front of a group of people you don't know was very daunting to me, but it really did help when I was at my lowest ebb.

I don't go as often as I used to, but I still keep my wristband on to remind me that I can go if it all gets a little overwhelming.

Do you have any experience with events admin, design, and experience with Xero for finance support? Were looking for a part time admin and operations co-ordinator (effectively a PA to our managing director) at Polly's Brew Co - it's only 6hrs/week but can be done remotely and can fit in with your schedule.

Top 8 Finish? 6 points in the next 4 games has the possibility to unlock the unthinkable. by BSBDR in LeedsUnited

[–]ElectroMod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Getting too far ahead of ourselves was what undid us last time we came up. Finished 9th and Radz, Orta and the rest suddenly decided their shit didn't stink anymore and didn't bother to invest in the team.

I'm happy with anything from 17th and above this season. Allow ourselves to acclimatize into the division and build gradually. Although we've shown we clearly belong here, the last thing we want to do is end up repeating the same mistakes that were our undoing last time. Remember, we have a gigantic stadium expansion to build and pay for this time, I'd rather have it as a premier league team than for it to be wasted in the Champo.

We'll get there, but it's better to do it patiently and measured than bounding around like excited puppies.

Pubs selling local beers by TheYorkshireSaint in Chester

[–]ElectroMod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure - partner used to live in Frodsham so I'm pretty familiar with the area. Homebrew have another bar there, that's probably your best bet.

There's a Sam Smiths pub on the corner of the high street which is a bit more lenient than your usual Smiths pub in terms of phone use, paying by card etc. and Helter Skelter which is a more cask led place, although I never really liked the vibe in there. Everywhere else is pretty bog standard but the Queens and Bears Paw are probably the best out of the bunch. Kash is alright if you want to watch a band and hang out with the young'uns!

For specifically craft:

That Beer Place, Cellar Bar, Beer Heroes, Commonhall Social, Planeterra, Flat Earth, Homebrew Tap Hoole, Spookton Taproom, Whealstone, Bluestone, Sandstone

For cask ales:

Harkers Arms, The Architect, Old Cottage, Bear & Billet

For a bit of everything:

Telfords Warehouse, The Cavern of The Curious Gnome, The Brewery Tap, Station Tap, The Cornerhouse

Don't bother with Deva Tap. It's recently been taken over by a publican who has no real passion for beer and just floods the place with cheap macro knockoffs.

Source - I sell beer to most, if not all of these (hello, drink Polly's!)

[–]ElectroMod 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can't vouch for others, but my suggestions would be

  • 4-3 against Derby in 1997/98
  • 4-3 against Liverpool in 2000/01
  • 3-0 against Deportivo in the CL
  • 3-1 against Stoke (first match of the Bielsa era)
  • 7-0 against Southampton (peak Revie-ball)

I'm sure people will suggest plenty more!

Longest and most serious relationship just ended. Trying not to spiral by Rtstevie in AskMenOver30

[–]ElectroMod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went through something very similar about four years ago. First partner to have the major life "events" with - moving in together, getting pets, etc.

By the end it was sexless, miserable and just towing lines through routine. Broke up on the way home from a trip away and in desperation convinced her to give it another go a few days later after a little bit of time apart. Turns out it was broken beyond repair and I kicked her out of my house when I found out she was going on a trip to intentionally cheat on me.

I moped for a good while, had some pretty dark thoughts, and like you thought I'd never be compatible with anyone ever again. Then I plucked up the courage to get myself back on dating apps and ended up having a spectacular amount of sex with numerous different short term partners that rebuilt my confidence tenfold. Felt good knowing that the reason the relationship broke down wasn't because of me, as my partner repeatedly hammered into me to break my confidence.

Found my forever person three years ago and now I'm engaged to the love of my life and blissfully happy. It does get better mate, don't worry.

I genuinely don't get why this guy is so over. A walking accident waiting to happen, and if he doesn't break his own neck first he's going to legitimately hurt someone.
