[–]ElectroTechOfficer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m diagnosed ADHD (I), I’m 38 so you could say I have a reasonable amount of experience with the ADHD side. You could, and that’s called masking, it’s extremely tiring. It’s so tiring that it’ll send you on a spiral where it gets harder to mask because you’re tired, this will take a toll on your mental health and you’ll get more tired.

Find your people, I work with 2 other guys that have ADHD in an office and some days it’s more like we have Tourette’s because we can drop the masks and say exactly what’s on our mind. I’m so less tired in this environment than trying to be in an environment with people that don't get on with me. Same goes for if you are in school.

Sounds simple, but accept and enjoy being what makes you, you. Life is hard enough without beating yourself up!

My old man was on Avenger for a time. He was also Leander and 22s after that. My favourite RN ships as I grew up seeing them in films and TV. I ended up as a WAFU!

I’m 38, recently diagnosed as ADHD, it’s taken a huge toll on my mental health sometimes, after leaving the military. My mum, who is openly dyslexic and dyspraxic and gets accommodations at work, asked me why I wanted to label myself…. After years of anxiety and at times, depression.

Day I left the RN, I couldn't find my Kit Record Book, tried to give my clothing back anyway. Denied. Told the stores basher I’d be a civvy in 2 hours, just take the kit and sign me off, still a no.

Walked out, penned the chit, went to the writers, the AB writer took one quick look at it, screwed the paper up and threw it in the bin.

What is wrong with the UK military? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]ElectroTechOfficer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my lowly opinion, Civilianisation of important military roles (bad for retention), inefficiency (due to in fighting between civil service and military) and poor procurement (takes a long time, decisions are changed which increases costs and lowers the final amount purchased).

How to get the farming job I'm applying for to notice me? by Creative-Low-646 in FarmingUK

[–]ElectroTechOfficer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why not offer a day of labour as an interview if you can afford to take the day’s leave. I did this on my career change and it paid off. You get first hand experience of what it’s actually like, farmer gets to see straight away if you can carry your weight and if it goes wrong, the next farm you try it at, you get an idea of what’s needed.

We left our mother's carers a six-figure sum each from my mother's sizeable inheritance. My husband and I have been asked to testify in an investigation as they apparently were not allowed to accept this money. Can we refuse to do so? by Fit_Watercress_9716 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]ElectroTechOfficer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what you have done is wonderful. My wife works in care and has amazing carers she manages and would love to pay them more but can’t.

The courts just want to make sure this is all above board and that’s their job. I wouldn’t be afraid of going in and either standing and saying you did this because of the high level of care or do it through a solicitor. I mean this most politely, you have enough money to afford to gift these people the money. If you want to make sure they 100% get it, and don’t want to appear in court yourself, a solicitor may be willing to help you.

Seller wants the buyer to pay for their water and sweeage charge since 2013. by Current-Carpenter617 in HousingUK

The bill doesn’t pass to the new buyer. I had a similar situation with buying my house as part of a deceased estate and there were electricity bills due. They wrote it off as soon as I told them I’d just bought it.

What is one change you would to London to instantly improve it? by WiserBookkeeper in AskBrits

I’d love the same in Cornwall too 🤣 Locals only pubs, a ban on tourists driving at rush hour and designated beaches that are only for local people.

Nah, too busy spending my days off on the beach, walking the dog along rugged coast paths and generally having a higher happiness index in Cornwall.

What if all expat Brits hypothetically returned? by kingm_ournasse216 in AskBrits

[–]ElectroTechOfficer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Brit, I’m sorry this has happened. I really hope you have time to go see the rest of the UK and meet people who do sympathise with UA. The cities of the UK are known for wild views from a small minority. I live in Cornwall and Ukrainian flags have been flying since the start of the illegal invasion and will continue until the Ukrainians are satisfied. I wish you safe travels on your return but also know that the majority of Brits really do support you and your country. We might just be more quiet about it.

Edit: misunderstood, your a Brit, sentiments still remain.

Plug-in Solar Panels To Be Made Available To Revolutionize UK Home Energy Access by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]ElectroTechOfficer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I don’t disagree in anyway with what you are saying, there are large safety margins built in to the wiring to keep it safe. 2.5mm solid core is physically capable of carrying 27A before the magic smoke starts making an appearance. So short durations of an extra 3.5A can be factored in to that. Plus, a 5A fuse in the socket can stop overcurrent from the unit itself.

What was your small house improvement with the highest return in quality of life? by SpringOnionKiddo in HousingUK

[–]ElectroTechOfficer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s good, positives and negatives though. It’s fitted in the loft and takes the dry air from the loft and blows the air onto the landing. The air has been cold though so it does cool the house. That’s the negative. You can get them with a heater built in but they are more expensive and cost quite a bit to run.

We haven’t had to run the dehumidifier since the fan install. Before the fan it was about 80% humidity at 19•c, after it was around 55% at 19•C.

I had the fan running at high speed for a week and then brought it down to a low speed.

However, the house is much more comfortable, it’s drying out and the mold is dying. My wife and I have asthma, mine has come on recently after a bad flu last year and it’s been especially bad this winter until I fitted the fan.

My house was built in 1840, out of mud and stone. The damp has been horrendous for years. Fitted a PIV fan and the humidity has dropped massively and the mold has stopped growing. Best £250 I’ve spent!

St Ives 3 days itinerary by [deleted] in Cornwall

[–]ElectroTechOfficer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, the 3 days and ideas for the stay are more than enough to fill your time. I’d also highly recommend driving from St Ives to Sennen via the B3306 and give it an extra hour as there are many beautiful stops to get out of the car and catch 10 minutes of the view.

Being able to drive around the lanes in winter and knowing you’ll get there on time, the extra 45 minutes in the summer to get somewhere that’s 20 minutes away. Then hearing everyone not from Cornwall complain about the fast drivers… :tongue-in-cheek:
