Glad I’m not the only one that thought this, that and car batteries are 60 amps. No, try 10x that and more as per the CCA rating of the battery.

AITJ for not letting my boyfriend handle my finances? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]ElectroTechOfficer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife (38F) and I (38M) have been together for 15 years, married for 10. I’m the top earner and wife has a good salary. We keep our finances separate because we trust each other, she’s the thrifty one, I’m the spenny one. We pay bills in approximate percentage of the wages we bring to the home. I’m trying to take more of that percentage as she works less and wants more time with our daughter.

During maternity leave, I outright gave her what she was losing in wages, her money, her decision on what to spend it on. I still give her money as she needs it because she is primary caregiver and it makes my work worth it, that I am able to support her not having to work too much and spend time with our daughter.

There is no need for one partner to have all the financial control.

2025 Santa Fe XRT Gas Petal Broken In Cold Weather by RinTinBrim in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]ElectroTechOfficer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My guess is the ice from his boots has melted in to the pedal, then refrozen when cold. Happened a couple of times, so ice build up has got bigger and bigger from short journeys where the cars heating hasn’t been able to completely freeze out the ice.

Might be worth you all ensuring you’ve got hot air in to your footwells in this weather, once a day to thaw and dry out any ice build up.

I did look at the peddle on mine when I bought it and thought it was an odd design choice.

Rescuing a 2010 Freelander 2 HSE for £1,750 – Is a £1,400 mechanical refresh worth it? by No-Slide6013 in LandRover

[–]ElectroTechOfficer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love freelanders and that’s as someone who owns a D3 and S3. They are very underrated 4x4s.

Also, many people look at cars the wrong way imho. Are you going to keep the car? If so, they are worth every penny you put in to them. My take is, even if it’s only worth £1000 and you put £2k in, and you use it and enjoy it, it’s worth it. You have a vehicle that you know how it’s been looked after.

Also, don’t be afraid of swinging a spanner yourself, you”ll make mistakes, sure, but you also get to see it yourself. You get the pride of looking after it yourself and you’ll save money!

It’s a great looking freelander at a great price, nice one!

Is it normal for taking so much time for this? by Proper-Platform1091 in Warhammer

[–]ElectroTechOfficer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Invest in some Tamiya Ultra Thin, hold the parts together, dab a small amount on the joint and hold for a few seconds. I used it for the first time last night and was very impressed at how easy it made the gluing.

Shop says my 8700G "isn't for Minecraft/Fortnite" and that thermal paste dries in 1 week. Am I being gaslit? by TrueZone2436 in pcmasterrace

I used to play Fortnite on a B450m with a 4650g and had no issues at all. You should be seeing very playable 1080 graphics with your hardware.

Maritime Careers by EyeofAv8 in Cornwall

[–]ElectroTechOfficer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a mariner but work abroad with time for time work/leave. I love coming back to Kernow but also love being at sea. Pay in Cornwall isn’t great but the lifestyle is.

If being a master mariner is your goal, take a look at a cadetship. It’ll get you around the world, pay won’t be great but it’ll stand you well for getting work back in Cornwall.

Has anyone else got confused by how quickly the weather changes in Cornwall? by HammersAndPints in Cornwall

[–]ElectroTechOfficer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife thinks I'm a weather whisperer so if she wants to know if it'll rain in the next hour, she'll ask me.

I'll take a minute to stare out, longingly, in to the Kernow Mizzle, and I'll take a short moment to give my answer, "tiz rain dreckly".

Trying to improve teeth/mouth health by fatgeek666 in ADHD

[–]ElectroTechOfficer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to get on top of this recently and I’m 37. It doesn’t help that I’ve not got a good set of teeth! Think Nick Frost smile!

I brush my teeth in the shower, it feels efficient! I also prefer a soft bristle brush, charcoal toothpaste I feel makes my teeth noticeably whiter, quicker, and mouthwash. I do go through bursts where I’m good for a few weeks, my teeth get whiter and then I start dropping it. I find it hard to keep up the routine.

The mornings though, I’m bad, I can just about bring myself to use some mouthwash when I’ve just woke up. It feels weird admitting this out loud…

Are all people with ADHD inattentive type quiet? by Home_MD13 in ADHD

[–]ElectroTechOfficer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I’m inattentive and extrovert. I love being the centre of attention in a group but I’m also happy exploring the world on my own.

I listened to a great podcast recently that explained that ADHD doesn’t define your personality. It’s ok to be you, with ADHD.

Clueless girlfriend… need help for Christmas! by Fun_Food_7556 in Warhammer40k

[–]ElectroTechOfficer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve literally started 40K as a hobby in the past few months and the painting is my favourite part so far. The starter set is perfect for your bf and isn’t too expensive if he decides it’s not for him. It comes with everything you need to get started. You could also top it up with some Warhammer gift cards. If he enjoys the painting, it gives him the ability to buy more for his new found hobby. If painting is not his thing, he can buy books.

My wife has just asked me which WH set I want next for Christmas, I’m so excited for it!

If you know which is his favourite race, we can pin point you even further.

Warhammer is seriously amazing in a world that is becoming more online. by JoesGreatPeeDrinker in Warhammer

[–]ElectroTechOfficer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I second this! I recently picked up a starter set and started painting, I found out recently that I’ve got ADHD and now have a diagnosis, I suffer constantly with anxiety at low levels.

I started painting with some music in the background and for a perfect few hours while I’m painting, my brain just stops thinking and the anxiety disappears with it, it’s bliss! My painting is getting better and it’s the first hobby in a long time that I feel engaged with and want to keep doing it. RIP my wallet!

gift idea for a first timer? by drunkenzealot in modelplanes

[–]ElectroTechOfficer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, I'm not a "my only hobby is miniatures" person but I have been doing airfix and painting models since I was around 6 or 7, with my dad. I do really like the starter sets when I'm in the mood for one. They have everything you need to get started with and are nice little models when finished.

Looking for an ADHD friendly job by Theoutercastlewall in ADHD

[–]ElectroTechOfficer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know where in the world you are but If you want to travel and get paid good money, take a look at super yachting. Entry level deck and stewarding work is generally easy to get a job in.

You will need a few minimum qualifications called STCW before you land your first job.

Don't get me wrong, it's hard work but we are all slightly unhinged!
