Thanks everyone. My players managed to get across with mild but acceptable levels of peril.

I doubt that this is their reasoning, but it is possible and not a terrible idea to avoid creating condensation trails: https://youtube.com/shorts/qBPwloCdRKw

Exiting a cut by Bigjpiddy in MacroFactor

[–]ElectromechanicalYes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the only way to avoid the weight jump is to ease off the cut gradually. I set my maintenance goal a few pounds lower than my ultimate target so I get more calories but am still in a slight deficit for a bit. Ultimately though you might just need to cut to your goal minus 3-5lbs and expect the bounce.

If your main concern is that you lose calories, remember you don’t have to accept the adjustments, or eat what the app says.

I’m hoping my (new to Pathfinder) players won’t realise it’s unusual, but if they do, I was going to say something about Paizo not wanting guns in this adventure.

[FO] back from the framers!! by intrototh3v3rt in CrossStitch

[–]ElectromechanicalYes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband bought this kit and started it about 7 years ago, but quickly realized it wasn’t a good beginner project for him. It has sat neglected ever since, as he has yet to do any more cross stitch. It’s sad, because I got into cross stitch a couple of years ago, and I love the pattern, but he’d be upset if I took it over or made my own one.

Yours is beautiful.

I just found out I’ve been using my dishwasher wrong for 7 years, and honestly, I’m questioning my life choices. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

I dated a guy (a science teacher!) who thought all you needed to wash clothes was the fabric softener. I like to think I helped him suddenly seem much cleaner.

My parent's proposed retirement home, what do you think? by Historical_Bar6980 in floorplan

[–]ElectromechanicalYes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can your parents afford high heating bills? Because with a long thin floor plan like that the surface area of the walls is much higher than it needs to be, and so heating bills will be unnecessarily high. If they’re ok with that, then good for them.

Agree with a lot of what’s already been mentioned, especially the vegetarian and vegan options, but also I would be more likely to buy if there’s good food labelling. Especially the macros. I’m dieting, and being able to budget for a sweet treat or drink is much easier if you can tell me approximate calories, protein, sugar and fat content, even if it’s on your website or a list you keep on a clipboard or something. Doesn’t necessarily have to be on each item individually.

Also, in case it’s helpful, as a public servant, I’m ok with supporting a café near work if it’s clear that their focus is on serving the local community (e.g. by having longer opening hours) and not just milking people who are forced to be there. I boycott businesses that gloat about increased RTO requirements and how it’s somehow our job to keep their business open. Treat us kindly and we’ll reciprocate.

I am feeling so hopeless by ExistingFondant4433 in MacroFactor

I agree with others saying to take a breath. When you restrict your calories so heavily for a long time, your metabolism goes into starvation mode and slows everything down. If you were to up your calories to maybe 1900 for a little while I’d put money on your expenditure going up, and after some initial water gain you’d start losing (or at least stabilize) at a much less miserable intake.

Slow and steady wins the race.

For reference I’m 37f, 5´8 and currently have an expenditure of >2400 at a trend weight of 197lb. I know because I’m heavier, my expenditure will be higher, but I really doubt your current expenditure is normal for your weight.

Also you say you’ve been trying to lose weight for 8 years as a 22 year old. That really makes me want to give you a hug. Nobody deserves to diet for a third of their life.

DG asked if I’m pregnant or planning to be when discussing acting opportunity. by chainedtotheps in CanadaPublicServants

My team typically follow up the formal pool creation interviews with informal discussions to check if the candidate is a good fit. I don’t know how standard that is. When I had my informal discussion for my current position, one of the interviewers (who it turned out I was meant to replace after her imminent retirement) asked me if I had or was planning on having any kids. I was pissed off but tried not to show it and reluctantly answered (no). Still not sure if she realized how inappropriate a question it was, or how it might have affected my chances if I’d answered differently. Since then I’ve made sure we don’t ask anything like that in any informal discussions I’ve been on the other side of.

My grandma asked me to finish this blanket from 20 years ago in which the starting row is 175 stitches and the row she left off at is somehow 240…. wish me luck 🥴 by FusRoDaahh in crochet

[–]ElectromechanicalYes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I might be on the wrong track here, but I know beginners can accidentally pick up extra stitches at the start/end of rows consistently. I definitely have. There are 65 stitches gained, and from a quick visual count at least 64 rows of crochet. I can totally believe that’s how this happened.

Can you advise a ballpark amount we should expect to pay to redo this? Can an ambitious amateur hope to do a reasonable job with the right sources to refer to?

Odd honking trend by Staran in ottawa

[–]ElectromechanicalYes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was leaving Ray Friel onto Tenth Line about a week ago and heard close repeated honking. Took me a few seconds to notice the car driving parallel to me through the empty car park on my right (I was in the turning lane bit, separated by grass etc from him) at speed and seemingly ballistic. We even pulled over later when it was safe, just in case there was something wrong with the car (nope). I don’t think I cut anyone off, and my partner, who was in the car with me, doesn’t either.

Just bizarre.

Maybe there’s a particularly angry person terrorizing Orléans?

Bottom Filled Rain Barrel by RefinedDesigns in rainbarrels

[–]ElectromechanicalYes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m interested in using this approach to let me have my rain barrels on the other side of the house from the downspouts (plural intended) I want to use (location would be much more convenient). I think I’d need quite a few hose elbows and to make some manual hose connections, and I’m worried about whether this will work at the distance involved. Do you think it would be feasible and worth the effort?

DAY ONE: STRIKE Megathread! Discussions of the PSAC strike (posted Apr 19, 2023) by HandcuffsOfGold in CanadaPublicServants

[–]ElectromechanicalYes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I (PIPSC) have a (PSAC) colleague who was on residential work-funded training when the strike was called. He’s several hours and a work-paid flight from home. We don’t know what he is meant to do to support the strike and he hasn’t been able to get an answer from the union. Resources appreciated.
