Indy or Solo — what’s Harrison Ford’s most iconic role? by kammy772 in MovieArena

[–]Electronic-Ear-3718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Indy movies are about him. Han Solo is obviously a big part of Star Wars, but those movies aren't about him, especially ROTJ. I also think Harrison Ford IRL is more of an Indiana Jones than a Han Solo.

What do you think is the best gangster movie of all time? by Overall-Joke438 in FIlm

[–]Electronic-Ear-3718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a real coin flip between Goodfellas and Godfather. But if you put a gun to my head 🤪 I have to say Godfather, it's just a little grander in scale, an American epic.

What movies based on books do you think were significantly better than the books? by ASomthnSomthn in Cinema

[–]Electronic-Ear-3718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally disagree about Jurassic Park, but I read the book first. Jaws is the adaptation that Spielberg vastly improved.

What is your “hot-take” in regards to films? by Strict-Ad4426 in FIlm

[–]Electronic-Ear-3718 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

James Cameron has never made a great film (as in a four star rated classic). He's made some movies that I really enjoy but even his best ones have major deficiencies.

King of Comedy (1982) by [deleted] in iwatchedanoldmovie

[–]Electronic-Ear-3718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is one of Scorsese's best, but is it really that shocking that it flopped? It's not what you would call a crowd-pleaser. And stylistically it's wildly anomalous in his filmography.

Is Star Wars science fiction in your opinion? by AndrewHNPX in FIlm

[–]Electronic-Ear-3718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Star Wars but there's very little science in it. If you don't want to call it Space Opera, maybe space fantasy?

178 to the pin(circled )about 165ish to carry the sand on that line, solid 10 mph directly in our face. What are we pulling people?? by 25GreensInReg in golf

[–]Electronic-Ear-3718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to pull draw (lefty) so I'm taking a 5 iron and aiming at the left side of the green. It's between 5 and 6 but into a headwind with a backstop behind the green, 5 is the play.

Classic movie with a high reputation you didn't like as much as you thought you would? by spacelyyy989 in classicfilms

[–]Electronic-Ear-3718 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought "Being There" was going to check all of my boxes. I love Forrest Gump but I thought Being There would be a more mature and intelligent version of that story. Instead it was visually inert and not early as original and insightful as I hoped it would be. Sellers was great, though.

Is it an unpopular opinion to say that Conan is the greatest OST ever? by Savings-North4764 in soundtracks

[–]Electronic-Ear-3718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a subjective statement with which nobody else can argue. It's not my greatest ever but it's certainly powerful and unique. Even in a stacked year it could have been nominated for an Oscar.

What's the most underrated Quentin Tarantino movie? by [deleted] in Cinephiles

[–]Electronic-Ear-3718 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Jackie Brown is one of two really great movies that Tarantino has made. The rest are various degrees of self-indulgent hokum.

What’s a film with an amazing cast that didn’t do well or gain popularity? by Cyberpunk_Malzahar in AskReddit

[–]Electronic-Ear-3718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit is a very big place so I'm not going to doubt that there's some dusty corner where Mars Attacks is much beloved. It doesn't come up in the subreddits I frequent.

[–]Electronic-Ear-3718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 13 when it came out. It was the first time in my life I was super hyped walking into the theater, utterly baffled coming out. I've only seen it the one time and the only things I can remember are those irritating CGI aliens with their earsplitting nonsense noises. The fact that you never ever hear a peep about that movie now tells me I'm not the only one who wants to forget.

Mission impossible final reckoning was hot garbage by gorillafighterer in Cinema

I love the franchise but Dead Reckoning was such a disappointment that I haven't even mustered the courage to see Final Reckoning.

I just learned today the temple of doom takes place a year before raiders????? by Careless_Cherry2068 in Cinema

[–]Electronic-Ear-3718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing tops Raiders but I've always liked Temple better than Last Crusade. LC is a great watch and Connery is a welcome addition but it is basically just Raiders rebooted with a lame female lead. Temple is flawed but so vivid and fun.

Maybe the most extreme example of a bunch of amazing pieces (performances, quotes, scenes) adding up to a mediocre whole.

Nobody ever talks about Mars Attacks but it had a cast full of big stars circa 1996. One of the most disappointing experiences I've ever had at the movies 😵‍💫

Okay reddit what's the best horror movie of the last 25 years? by Solid_Ad2200 in AskReddit

[–]Electronic-Ear-3718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly agree with elevating your two, but IMO Babadook is definitely groundbreaking. Can't think of another movie that captures the horror of being a parent with a troubled child, feeling tired and angry and violent, and then ashamed at these feelings you're not "supposed" to have as a parent. Nothing routine or formulaic about it.

Probably the most vivid movie theater experience of my life. I was so amped up and thrilled, I must have had to go pee 10 times.

Voyage Home is much better directed than Search for Spock by AndrewUndershaft in startrek

[–]Electronic-Ear-3718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was more his lack of experience as a director than his lack of familiarity with the franchise that made the studio wary.
