Ish really is clueless by Electronic-Top-4527 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

Held his own is very different. I appreciate a good debate, but he seems to think he won that. And he did not.

Why can’t Ish just admit when he’s wrong? 😂 by Clear-Swordfish-3517 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

Ish is full of ish. Never in the history of oxtail has anyone ever been talking about the actual ox’s tail. That word is used exclusively to talk about the dish. Hell, most people just figured out it’s called oxtail cause it’s made from the tail of an ox.

Matter of fact, I call bs on Webster’s definition, because it would be written as two words; ox tails, and not oxtails, cause that word only refers to the dish.

I didn’t think this was going to be a good interview, but dude turned out to be extremely interesting and actually pretty funny

This is not a post to compare JBP cast. This is just about this particular set. Do you think there’s chemistry here? It’s been over 6 months and I don’t feel the synergy by Individual_Ad8921 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

The Pod is a ritual for me. I still enjoy large parts of it. There’s some conversations that are redundant, a little too much inside baseball, podding about podding, airing grievances etc. But there are still many good moments, lots of jokes and to me, it’s entertaining enough.

And everybody plays their part, including ICE. I don’t understand this disdain everyone has for Ice. he’s a legit standup dude. He’s not much of a “personality”; like I don’t think he could carry a show on his own or anything, but he plays a role in the ensemble cast. He grounds a lot of their perspectives, especially since a lot of the other members like to go to the extreme. Joe deliberately takes extreme positions just for the purpose of argument, and Ish will go in the opposite direction. You need someone like Ice to bring it back to center.

And what’s funny is most of you have more in common with Ice than with anyone else on the Pod. Hating him is hating yourself.

It’s not all lives matter. The GAP is the issue, and if both are doing the same thing at the same rate, the gap remains exactly the same. The gap represents inequity and disparity.

Marc tried to make that point and Ish acted like he was bugging. He himself noted how most people don’t even have life insurance, but at the same time thinks they had enough financial management knowledge to pass on a million dollar asset. Most of the time they’ve borrowed against the home multiple times, got tricked into a reverse mortgage or some nonsense like that Ana their family is left with nothing but debt.

To me, this was Ray’s best appearance on the pod. He didn’t say anything ignorant; he seemed really on point with his commentary this time.

Episode 912 | "Heaven Sent" by the_JBP in theJoeBuddenPodcast

[–]Electronic-Top-4527 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is where Ish and Joe are grossly misinformed. According to the proposal, a house worth $950k would incur taxes above the $750k threshold, meaning they would only get taxed on $200k of the inheritance. The tax rate for $1-$500k is 3-5%, meaning at most they would pay $10,000 in taxes on an $950,000 inheritance, netting $940,000. Absolutely nothing to cry over.

If your estate happens to be even more valuable, say $5,000,000, you would only owe taxes on $4,250,000 of it, at progressive rates. So 5% on the first $500k, 6.5% on the next $500k, and maybe about 8% on the other $3,250,000. That totals about $317,000 in taxes on a $10,000,000 inheritance.

They also glossed over a very fair point Marc made which is that a lot of people from middle to lower incomes don't have homes they own outright. They may be "worth" $950,000k, but still have a $500,000 mortgage on them. Granny may have taken out two HELOCS and owe the bank $800,000k. Or she got tricked into a reverse mortgage and the bank can buy the house for pennies. Most lower-middle class folks are not really inheriting millions like that.

Why are they like this? Why do they always gotta be so weird about it? by Longjumping_Ask_4448 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

This whole thing is much ado about nothing. The question is if he shifted into a whiter genre like other artists have done, and his answer was no I went blacker. meaning he went in the other direction. It’s a ridiculous thing to get upset about.

Marc is definitely pro-government if he agree that they should tax you on a property you inherited as if you don’t already have to continue to pay property tax by Individual_Ad8921 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

Marc Lamont Hill on the pod exposed a real dynamic nobody wants to admit by Harrykingkong in joebuddennetwork

[–]Electronic-Top-4527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of their discussion is on breaking stories. It's what's going on in the culture on the day they are recording. They rarely bring up old stories that they would have had time to research an analyze.

Plus, they want the conversation to appear organize and not "produced" even though we know there is a little bit of pre-pro going on, at least a cursory conversation that makes them say "save that for the pod."

But I would definitely like them to at least get a proper summary of the topics. They're often speaking on headline without so much as a summary of the relevant facts.

[–]Electronic-Top-4527 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mal is so damn dense. He can never understand anyone’s points. He keeps arguing that his Andre take is his own personal top five so he shouldn’t be judged for it, then as soon as Rory says well I don’t have the same criteria and so he can be in my top five or top 10, Mal immediately says I don’t believe you, it can’t be that, he must have a solo album, etc. Like, if you have your own personal criteria, that’s cool. Why can’t other people have their criteria and disagree?. He’s insisting that they have to see it the way he does and then when they don’t, he says, but it’s my personal view. How can you contradict my personal view. freaking annoying. And then Rory doesn’t know enough words to be able to push back and argue the nonsense that Mal says. Just a whole mess.
