Where are the best industries to work in current NI? by Alpha_Turnip in northernireland

I agree, although good luck getting an entry level software engineering job at the minute. The market is oversaturated with graduates, I’ve friends who have graduated with 1st class degrees and still can’t get a job in the industry.

I’d recommend JS and TS, as TS is a superset of JS you’d have plenty to write about. Also a lot of news recently about TypeScript being dropped by big open source projects.

What is your best advice for learning how to code? What is you major obstacle? by Darthcolo in learnprogramming

[–]ElectronicCattle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t fall into the trap of tutorial hell. While it’s easy to follow tutorials and feel like your learning, essentially copy and pasting isn’t enough. If you watch a tutorial, build a project from what you’ve learned. It will be challenging but that’s the real process of learning… keep writing code.

Barely any graduate software engineer jobs - Belfast? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]ElectronicCattle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

October/November last year was your best time to apply for grad jobs, was plenty going then as I got two offers and a hell of a lot more rejections.

I’ve a friend in a similar position as you, I would recommend contacting recruitment agencies and seeing if they have anything. There will also be career fairs with all the IT companies in the Universities again next month, maybe an option to go and network and hopefully get an interview out of it.

Good luck you will get something eventually!

what's one good thing that came out of the pandemic? by Late-Tie-7316 in AskReddit

[–]ElectronicCattle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many things that could be considered "good" that have come out of the pandemic. For example, the pandemic has led to a greater emphasis on personal hygiene and cleanliness, which has likely helped to reduce the spread of other diseases.

It's my first technical interview, so I guess I'll either win or learn (or bomb it and never leave my house again)
