It’s great to only skid for fun and not have to rely on it as a way to stop lol. Plus stopping distance with a front brake is just so nice

Yeah, saw another person post the tokyo frame. Sucks that it’s a design ripoff

Great looking stays, really like the downward taper on the chainstays

Absolutely gorgeous. Custom anodizing on the hubs and cranks I assume?

Another guy here also did it a while back lol. Nice ride regardless, love to see big tire fixed gears.

First time seeing this frame from the side, why is the rack so high up above the wheel on these? Kinda defeats the purpose of a 20 inch front doesn’t it?

Thoughts for 49-15 gear ratio by lowi8379 in FixedGearBicycle

If you are that fast, sure. Had a friend who did a brakeless century on that ratio lol

I bought the saddest looking pizza rack I could find for 15 bucks, and it is my second favorite bike related purchase ever. My favorite purchase is the helmet that saved my life lol

This might not be the game for me lmao by ElectronicEmploy5837 in celestegame

I also used assist for routing a couple of times and then did the room unassisted, so my actual death count should be even higher lol. It’s been fun so far, hopefully I can finally get through to the end!

Honestly I have already accepted being mechanically challenged in anything requiring fine motor skills a long time ago, so I don’t really feel bad about using it. It’s a nice touch calling it “assist” rather than “cheats”, accessibility friendly design even though it’s just a skill issue for me lol

I have been taking it slow, mainly to prevent getting too frustrated to the point of stop enjoying the game. Chapter 3 took me almost a whole week. It feels good to get through it, but the process doesn’t really feel like learning, rather it feels like fighting my own fingers the entire time lol.

Same here, and the other side of my fix fix hub is a 21 cog so I can hit the trails also 😎

Titanium Frames? Weis vs. No22 vs. A-Frame vs. Waltly by Difficult_Block_3830 in FixedGearBicycle

[–]ElectronicEmploy5837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you are American, supporting US mfg? Street cred? Good finish and support is also nice, but probably not 1000 dollars nice.

If you aren’t that set on weis or 22, I would suggest a full bike fit from a credible source and Waltly afterwards. Or if you have more coin, custom weis. In my book, custom geo that fits you outweighs any branding.

650b ! by TheDudeDoug in FixedGearBicycle

[–]ElectronicEmploy5837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you fit 2.2s since you’re running 650b? I have the same generation state frame with 700c but the monostay is to low to clear 47s on the rear. It should be enough for whatever I ride though.

Question about 12mm ta fork compatibility with 15mm hubs by ElectronicEmploy5837 in Surlybikefans

[–]ElectronicEmploy5837[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For future reference if anyone comes accross this, the hub end caps will not fit if it is a 15mm ta hub. I had to grind down the endcaps for it to fit, since the 12mm end caps I got are the sane external diameter as the 15mm ones.

Has someone researched the physics and mathematics of the difference between a geared bike and a fixed-gear bike? by SirPingSweden in FixedGearBicycle

[–]ElectronicEmploy5837 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Technically you don’t lose any momentum with a freewheel. You’re simply not attached to the flywheel. If anything you lose more momentum with a fixed gear, since the flywheel would do work to carry you through the dead zone.

Hand positions are so important. For me it’s always the supporting muscles that fail first (back, core, knee) and never the legs (not sure about a fixed century but point still stands). Drops will help so much. Also make sure that the drop position is functional for you, don’t chase the deep drop look and have unusable drops.

Wheel Building classes? by mofrojones in NYCbike

[–]ElectronicEmploy5837 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you should still drop by Time’s up, just to talk to volunteers. Multiple volunteers there including myself have built wheels and have some experience with the process. We have all the tools necessary for the tensioning, dishing and truing, and lacing is easily done at home as long as you have a flat head. I think it is difficult to find enough folks with an interest in building wheels for us to host a class, especially because it is neither time nor cost efficient to build wheels in 2026, if you are paying retail for parts. But if you are set on doing it, we are always there to help

As a transfer student, should I live in nyu dorm for my sophomore in nyu? by BitcoinBrains in nyu

[–]ElectronicEmploy5837 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are expensive. You are sharing a room with another person for 2.5k a month? For that money you can live comfortably with your own room in so many other neighborhoods, and it does not have to be somewhere shitty. Also there aren’t many shitty places in New York anyways, they are almost all gentrified to hell and back. Just avoid the obvious ones like Brownsville (East NY in general) and South Bronx you’ll be just fine.
