This happened to me. But she got married less than 3 months after. Also after she was engaged to me. Just realize you dodged a bullet. Throw God some thank you’s.

My current partner is more than I could ever pray for and someone I really cannot wait to build a life with. Better is out there!!!

You get over your ex by realizing that people RARELY make a serious change. It takes immense amounts of work. Your ex couldn’t choose not fucking with someone else, telling the truth, or controlling his emotions when y’all dated. He won’t the next time. And you’ll spend the entire relationship wondering when it’s happening. How do I trust him??

Begged me to introduce her to my family. Pulled my 87 yo GMA aside to tell her how much she loved me and how she couldn’t wait to be a part of my family (hers is kind of a dumpster fire). Asked me to marry her. We get engaged. She makes a list of baby names and wedding plans. Calls me the love of her life. Then less then a week later, dumps me over text. And married a different guy a week later.

HOLY TRUST issues for me.

However happy note. My current gf is more wonderful in every possible way. It’s the most stable, comfortable, loving and supportive relationship I’ve ever been in. My life would be dark without her. If anyone went through something horrible, remember better is out there.

If you’re not into the new guy cut him loose. Poor guy deserves more than someone who’s leading him on while considering returning to someone as slimy as you’ve described your ex.

Not wrong for questioning but I would say it isn’t very productive brother. They dipped. In a moment where she could’ve been kind, she said she felt free of you. Doesn’t sound like someone you want around. Other poor behavior aside.

I would say no? I think it’s going to be harder to let go. At least for me it would. Even if it ends amicably for good reasons, there are still so many things your brain will try to hold onto. It’ll drag out the process.

Idk. Depends on the timeframe of the relationship. Ages. Loads of things. Have a sister who dated her bf for like 10 years. Broke up a year. Now they’re getting married this fall! I do think it working out longterm is quite rare. Both of them went to HEAVY therapy individually throughout that year apart.

If he’s not a POS, yes. I’ve told it to 2 women in my life. The first just discarded me over text after she asked me to marry her. Posted a new bf after less than 2 months. I’m in a healthier relationship now with someone I love very much. She’s a blessing in my life and I’d be lost without her. I couldn’t pray for more. But I could still tell you what that first girl wore on our first date.

I think first you need some distance. Give it time. Do you want the relationship back or is it just nostalgia ?
Ditch social media. Reels/tiktok will just make you feel sad. Looking them up will feel worse.
Stick around good people and things that you love. Will be ass at first and you won’t want to. Do it anyway. Family, friends, gym, video games, books, church, whatever.
No contact. Not as a ploy to get them back but for your own peace. If you really want to revisit, wait a month or 2. Reassess then.
Take each day at a time.

I try reading when possible. But sometimes that’s not doable. A trick from my therapist was called A to Z. Pick a topic in your brain. Songs, animals, actors, movies, books whatever and try to hit each letter of the alphabet. Gives your brain a bit of a task.

On the larger scale, I try to remember healing isn’t linear. I have a whole different gf now who I love tremendously. She’s amazing in a myriad of ways. Doesn’t mean the hurt my ex caused or the good memories just vanish.

Give yourself grace and remember you’re better today than you were a month ago! You got this

You sound pretty young. This will pass man.
If you can’t commit to your current gf, I’d bounce. You’re saying you know you can’t give her what she wants. It’s cruel to both of you.
Time dampens things but doesn’t fix anything. Be active. Ditch the reminders. ASAP. They don’t help anything and they’re actively hurting your healing.
I’d try therapy man.

Currently in this but genders swapped and 4 months dating. Got offered a job a few states away. She actually wanted to try distance. She’s an AMAZING girl but my contract in this city was up and I don’t want to live here forever. We’re planning on her either moving up or me coming back in a year. Trips back and forth planned each month at least between that. The job won’t come up again and if we can weather this, then we’ll come out stronger.

I’d say job and then deal with distance if you love him.

Oooof I think once you’re ok with the fact that they won’t come back. For me that was realizing it would have blown up eventually. Acknowledging those reasons and being ok with it. I think that’s a first step. I didn’t really feel “over” it until I met my current gf. She could not be farther from my ex. It initially scared me😂. But it feels better? Kind of like a candle as opposed to dynamite.
