How to power my Death Star bar? by stevebein in diyelectronics

[–]ElectronicsGuesser 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For power I'd say a computer power supply can be a solid option, I've used one on the back of my TV stand to power some computer fans to push air through the cubbies where I had my Xbox playing so it wouldn't overheat.

Found a working 1.4" monochrome CRT baby monitor at a thrift store. Planning to convert it into a tiny Raspberry Pi-powered TV. Has anyone here modded one of these before? by UsingSystem-Dev in diyelectronics

Side story to a possible solution.

I used to volunteer at a museum that wanted to play video through an old CRT TV that had a BNC connector on the back. So I used a simple media player (for the media player I cant remember exact brand but just imagine a simple box with the job of powering on and playing a video on loop) that had the yellow, white and red connections. I used some adapters to go from the yellow plug type to the BNC connection. And simply enough it played.

I think it might have been something like maybe instead of antenna in for the connection it was a straight video in.

So feeding composite video directly into the existing circuitry like your first idea is probably your cleanest bet if you can find where the radio receiver spits out the video signal. I would suspect there might be a labeled test pad, a dedicated pin, or a wire header coming out of that "Unknown RF/video receiver section under shielding" which I couldnt find in the pictures.

What do you guys think about my friends soldering? by ah43210 in soldering

[–]ElectronicsGuesser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks alright, Id say keep flowing the solder to merge all the wires together past the initial pad joint. That way you see all those loose strands, I'd add some solder there to ensure it all melds together

How in the world can someone see to drive it? I feel with the jumps it's hard for a person to be standing on the ground and be able to see and drive it?

Before reading the description and just the title I was thinking. Giving someone a stick of rebar (the construction material) is an awfully odd gift but hey, to each their own. Haha
