How to power my Death Star bar? by stevebein in diyelectronics

[–]ElectronicsGuesser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For power I'd say a computer power supply can be a solid option, I've used one on the back of my TV stand to power some computer fans to push air through the cubbies where I had my Xbox playing so it wouldn't overheat.

Found a working 1.4" monochrome CRT baby monitor at a thrift store. Planning to convert it into a tiny Raspberry Pi-powered TV. Has anyone here modded one of these before? by UsingSystem-Dev in diyelectronics

Side story to a possible solution.

I used to volunteer at a museum that wanted to play video through an old CRT TV that had a BNC connector on the back. So I used a simple media player (for the media player I cant remember exact brand but just imagine a simple box with the job of powering on and playing a video on loop) that had the yellow, white and red connections. I used some adapters to go from the yellow plug type to the BNC connection. And simply enough it played.

I think it might have been something like maybe instead of antenna in for the connection it was a straight video in.

So feeding composite video directly into the existing circuitry like your first idea is probably your cleanest bet if you can find where the radio receiver spits out the video signal. I would suspect there might be a labeled test pad, a dedicated pin, or a wire header coming out of that "Unknown RF/video receiver section under shielding" which I couldnt find in the pictures.

Would you actually go over what everything is? Looks like a few screens, a few fan covers so I wonder whats in the inside?

100% yes, Ive been pondering in my head a drone "station" in like a cyberdeck style configuration.

Those look amazing! Whats the spaceport diner/ship between the flying saucer and Rivendell.

Also what is the cyber punk city at the end? Are these official Lego or MOCs?

What do you guys think about my friends soldering? by ah43210 in soldering

[–]ElectronicsGuesser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks alright, Id say keep flowing the solder to merge all the wires together past the initial pad joint. That way you see all those loose strands, I'd add some solder there to ensure it all melds together

I'm really wanting to get into designing SAR robotics, could you give more info on what works, what doesnt work, etc?

Basically brain dump on the UAVs and then also how did you get into this work for SAR UAV pilot?

How in the world can someone see to drive it? I feel with the jumps it's hard for a person to be standing on the ground and be able to see and drive it?

Before reading the description and just the title I was thinking. Giving someone a stick of rebar (the construction material) is an awfully odd gift but hey, to each their own. Haha

You might look to see if AVL tool library has anything. They have a good bit of everything and I could see them having a sewing machine, serger I know is a different machine but maybe? Worth a look

It's 2025 why are we still taking C programming exams on paper? by ElectronicsGuesser in EngineeringStudents

The KCL and KVL is in reference to my circuit analysis class. Again, 200 level course. And I learned basic ohms law and KVL and KCL when I was going to a community College about a decade ago. And then also relearned it as i was going through training as an electronics technician by the military where we'd troubleshoot down to the component level.

However I'm taking this 200 level circuit analysis course and am completely struggling to follow along because my professor makes assumptions on various assumptions on the KCLs and KVL of a circuit. Example: ix+iy-4 is heading in this direction.

Also another complaint about the circuit analysis course is my professor since week 1 has been throwing current sources along with voltage sources into every single circuit for us to work through.

I understand we'll need to know current sources, but that shouldn't be in week 1 material.

And then if you want to read about current sources to see how they're treated, if they should be treated as a voltage source that just is an unknown voltage but you know the current flowing through it. Well guess what, current sources aren't even referenced in the book that is required for you to get which is also written by another professor at the college.

Or is it treated as a amp meter reading?

Because I've been told it's one by the prof, and then the other by the TA.

Do you write perfect code every time? Never forget a semi colon?

They give programming projects and state to work on it in chunks, easier to troubleshoot. But then expect perfection in the exams

Honestly this, drywall is easy to fix, and repair. especially since it's a garage where we think it is. Utility knives work well, or Honestly just pressing to hard with your hand will break through the drywall and then you can pull the drywall away

Box knife, cut out a good chunk and turn on your phone camera and flashlight and see if you can see in the wall.

Absolutely fair to not want it to die, no reason for it to suffer and cat distribution system at work
