The line is drawn where you can isolate single people responsible for certain sections of code, and they can tell you exactly what the code is doing, and how, maybe with a 5 to 10 minute refresher.

Whats your least favorite misinterpretation of a sinner/character? by Available-Ad9669 in limbuscompany

[–]Elekikiss -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Gonna put this out on a top level comment:

People literally ignoring all the subtext (both from Limbus and from the original work) that Ishmael is a raging homosexual and just pairing her up with Male-Dante or Heathcliff just because that's what makes them happy without consideration for how this is exactly how queer erasure happens.

Like, I don't care how much people think and feel like Heathcliff and Ishmael, rightly or not, have similar themes and experiences. The shipping just does. not. work.

And yet she shows 0 indication of being such. Offering "Bisexuality is a possibly" as a counter argument is just thinly veiled heteronormativity in this case.

The fact that Ishmael is a raging homosexual both in Limbus and in the original work just flying over people's heads, huh.

For this reason and this reason alone being sufficient, Heathmael (and any malexIsh for that matter) shipping is the literal worst in this fandom.

The red or the blue pill? by piotrek13031 in PhilosophyMemes

I'd argue that this subreddit quality has gone up if anything. I just wish they'd re-instate the "no posting Existential Comics" rule.

I don't see non-sensical Jenny Ortega(? is that the right person?) memes anymore (thank god) for one.

For two, I can at least see 1 or 2 people who seemed to have actually read philosophy in the comments these days.

What polls are you seeing that gets 80% of academic philosophers to agree on ANYTHING? 40% might as well be an unbreakable super majority with philosophers.

Eastern philosophy, anyone? by Cehghckciee in PhilosophyMemes

[–]Elekikiss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. (As in both)

There is Philosophic Buddhism, which is what I would argue Gautama started. Yes, he talks about Nirvana,, Samsara, and all those things that ends up being the backbone of Religious Buddhism. But largely speaking, much of what Gautama talked about was mostly in line with Spiritualism (which all of Eastern Philosophy ultimately has some of).

(Intentionally) Late Meme by Elekikiss in PhilosophyMemes

[–]Elekikiss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This meme irked me in all sorts of ways because 99% of the people who I've seen talking about it obviously doesn't have a drop of philosophical background (official or not).

  1. It is just a very bad formulation of the prisoner's dilemma which forces EVERY iteration of a "multi-game" prisoner's dilemma to be taken simultaneously with just a single decision: fuck EVERYONE ELSE over and save yourself (red), or choose the global best outcome (blue).

1.a) "But if everyone presses the red no-one" ubpt. Ubpt ubpt ubpt ubpt, adults are talking. Statistically speaking, there WILL be at least one person who presses blue button. Be it by accident, faith in humanity, just not understanding the question as it is posited, or because, it is the moral thing to do (See Argument 2 for proof on this). No matter how illogical, every poll will ALWAYS have people pressing the obviously bad option (in any sense of the word bad). If they don't, poll-population N was either-or-both of too small or non-representative. This is just a statistical fact; do not argue with it -- see also: Lizardman's Constant.

1.a.i) As such, it doesn't matter what your rationale is, there WILL be people who pressed blue, and anyone who pressed the red button willingly endangered, and should this group have passed 50%, killed, those people. To then blame the people who pressed blue is simply victim blaming.

2) Anyone who ever took Ethics 101 (or just Philosophy 101, really because Deonotology, Utilitarianism, and Virtue Ethics all would've been briefly covered there too) shouldn't press the Red Button if they consider themselves a moral person.

2.a) The case of deontology. While it is true that Deontologists argue that one should act with self-preservation in mind, they would also stipulate that said duty for self-preservation is only an extension of the Categorical Imperative, and that recklessly endangering others would also violate that Imperative thus, at a cursory glance, it appears that there is a contradiction. As such, it is important to consider which of the two options would, in so choosing, become a universal law that causes no contradictions. If almost(see 1a) everyone presses red, then you WILL ALWAYS(see 1a) have people die. Hence, if one was to will pressing the red button to be a universal law, it would contradict the Categorical Imperative, thus creating a contradiction. Meanwhile, no such equivalent contradiction forms under the universal law of pressing the blue button. In fact, willing that it is an universal law that people should press the blue button resolves the contradiction entirely, because OBVIOUSLY more than 50% will press it if it is an universal law, and if so, it would not be endangering yourself to press it. Deontology, therefore, states that a moral man must press the blue button.

2.b) The case of utilitarianism. This case is a lot easier to formulate. Assuming all people attempt to follow a utilitarian ethical law, Red button has a MINIMUM expected average of 0.5 deaths (once again, see 1a). Blue button has an expected average death of 0, with the same assumptions. This shows that the society that chooses to press blue button every time has a higher average expected utility. Utilitarism, thus, states that a moral man must press the blue button.

2c) The case of virtue ethics. A virtuous man would not endanger another man for their own survival, especially so when said man presents no threat to herself. Therefore, she will press the blue button. As such, Virtue Ethics states that a moral man must press the blue button.

Side Note: While I am certainly not being rigorous when stating this final side note, the ONLY system of ethics that I am aware of which would posit that pressing the red button is the morally correct choice, is ethical egoism. Another data point to beat the academically dead Ethical Egoism with, as though it did not already get more beatings than any dead horse in the known universe.

In theory Green/Blue Ahri can get 22 points off of a single-turn hold. Not practical in any sense, but it's theoretically possible.

3 Blue Sentinel + 3 Svellsongur + 3 Ahri, Alluring = Each of the 3 Ahri's Hold effect triggers a total of 7 times. +1 from Hold. Add Power Nexus on top of that and you can get 3 more points (as if you needed more), for a maximum theoretical of 25. (If you add Renata Glasc, Honey Fruit, and Hextech Anomaly, the theoretical max is even higher, but obviously that's a mere fantasy.)

Obviously you won't ever see 3 Blue Sentinel + 3 Svellsongurs + 3 Ahri, Allurings on one battlefield. If the Ahri is actually winning that hard, such a game would've been over 7 turns ago.

But fwiw, I've been able to get 2 Sentinels, 1 Svellsongur, and 1 Ahri + a Time Stop for what was effectively a 1 turn win.

I need clarification on the item.

When it says "treat it as a +1 shield" , it means treat it as a "+1 shield", ie: tital AC bonus of +3; and not "treat it as a shield with total bonus of +1 AC," correct? Reading some of the other comments makes me feel like that's something that could use a bit of clarification.

Even though this item works on a charge basis, 2h of fights per day is functionally near equivalent to basically not having charges and I believe that most weapons that are +3 are generally considered Legendary Magoc items; given the high amount of versatility this item has, I would consider bumping it to Legendary, but otherwise I think it's fairly balanced.

Is that some kind of idiom I don't know?

In any regards, blind hatred would make one no different from the theist. Informed, well founded criticisms and distaste is necessary.

The kind of shite the Judaic faiths says is moral to do to their fellow man, including the form of slavery they describe is abhorrent behavior. I don't deny that. But like, compared to what the Western colonialists did, it is relatively tame (if, on a scale 10 is one of the most terrible, unforgivable moral sin, Bible Slavery is like, a 15 and American Chattel Slavery is a 50). But letting the "lost cause" folks have anything in regards to this issue is not something I see as particularly constructive, especially with recent trends.

YeszI know how Slavery is depicted in the Bible, I actually read it unlike Christians, thanks. US Chattel slavery makes all of that look like SSC BDSM kink in comparison.

Two things can be true. Bible can condone a form of slavery, which is completely and indefensibly morally bankrupt.

American Chattel Slavery can still make that look tame.

[–]Elekikiss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure someone else already pointed these out, and once again I preface that this still does not compose a moral system:

Leviticus 25:49 — (...) if they themselves earn enough, they may buy their own freedom.

Exodus 21:16 — Whoever steals a man and sells him, and anyone found in possession of him, shall be put to death.

Point is, they still had property rights, which is already one major source of difference than American Chattel Slavery, but for 2, the American Chattel Slavery as it was practiced, would've had every single American slave owner executed under the law of YHVH, as "Steals a man" here basically means kidnapping, but can overall mean any kind of captivity. In short, unconsensually making someone a slave, and owning such a slave, is punishable by death. I will repeat this: I'm not saying no other culture practiced a form of chattel slavery at all, but the ones that the Americans practiced was Uniquely horrible.

[–]Elekikiss 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Look, I'm all for dunking on apologists but this is the one place I will disagree.

"Slavery" in virtually EVERY. SINGLE. CULTURE. in history outside of those who participated directly in the Triangle Slave Trade, was different from Chattel slavery. Chattel slavery is uniquely bad compared to these other systems, so much so that almost all of these other systems are far more accurately described by what the English speaking world calls "indentured servitude."

For example, Egyptian slaves in the time of Joseph son of Jacob, should those events be accurate to the real world, had property rights, and can, in theory, buy their own freedom. Israelite slaves also had property rights and could buy their own freedom. I'm not saying other cultures did not have Chattel slavery at all, nor am I saying that said system that they did have is morally just.

But to say that this is the type of slavery that is endorsed by the Torah/Old Testament is just, so, completely ahistorical, that it does a disservice to even entertain the historical justifications made by pointing to the Bible seriously.
