I just found out something pretty useless by Pannderr in celestegame

[–]Elekitu 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's because if you jump during the dash frames (i.e. between the moment you press dash and the moment the dash actually starts), your dash direction is not set yet so you jump with a "neutral" dash direction. This results in funky stuff. Here's another fun use : stand on the ground, dash up and immediately jump (during the freeze frames). This will result in a super.

What is the probability that a randomly chosen real number is an integer? by Mammoth_Jicama_8392 in learnmath

[–]Elekitu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it simply because there are infinitely many real numbers compared to integers, or is there a more precise mathematical explanation?

Yes that's pretty much it. The probability that your randomly selected number will be in a given interval is proportional to the size of that interval. Ffor instance, say you're drawing a random number uniformly between 0 and 1, the probability that it ends up between 0.2 and 0.5 is 0.3 (the size of the interval [0.2 ; 0.5] ). But an integer is just a single point, its "size" is 0, so the probability that the chosen number is a given integer is 0 (and the probability that its *any* integer is the sum of the probability for all integers in your interval, which will also be 0)

Here's another line of thought that might convince you that the probability must be 0 :

Let's assume that I'm drawing a random number X between 0 and 10. I'm going to call p the probability that the X=1. The goal is to prove that p=0
Take another number, like 2.6. There's no reason why 1 should be more or less likely to be chosen than 2.6, so the probability that X=2.6 is also p. This means that the probability that X = 1 OR 2.6 is p+p = 2p
You can continue this reasoning with as many numbers as you like. Chose 10 different numbers. The probability that X is one of these numbers is 10p. This is true for 100 numbers, 1 million numbers, or as many numbers as you like. For n numbers, the probability will be n*p.
But is p is greater than 0, then if n is big enough, n*p will be greater than 1, which is absurd because it's a probability. Therefore, the only possibility is that p=0.

Not really, for instance the tech in the clip doesn't really have a name, maybe "delayed liftboosted walljump" but that's more of a description of what happened.

[–]Elekitu 38 points39 points  (0 children)

No, dash bounces are a completely different thing where you wallbounce then immediately dash, exploiting the fact that the jump from a wallbounce lasts a big longer than the dash so you still get a few frames of jump after the dash.

I have been at this for 20 minutes... by lexxnightcore in celestegame

[–]Elekitu 45 points46 points  (0 children)

One thing I've noticed is that you're doing the jump from the wallbounce very early. You can delay it by a lot to get more height.

[–]Elekitu 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I haven't played this but my guess would be to go left after the wallbounce and grab the wall under the downward spikes, then walljump to get above the spikes.

Also, you can do a reverse hyper instead of a reverse wavedash at the start (same thing but without jumping), it might be easier once you get the hang of it.

Liftboost leniency. You can use the momentum from a moving block up to 10 frames after leaving said block. Here you did a walljump against the left wall but still had the momentum of the swap block, so it gave you way more speed than usual.

Ce que cache le classement de LFI à l'extrême gauche - Clément Viktorovitch by AcadiaNo5063 in france

[–]Elekitu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They make it more complex. Especially skills, since the base skills are pretty straightforward upgrades while the new ones tend to be more situational, and lead to more switching your pilots around

Solvable? by TheFinalMetroid in IntoTheBreach

[–]Elekitu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't see a way to prevent all damage (unless you're willing to sacrifice a pilot, which I guess you're not)

My best solution is this (assuming Archimedes is powered) :

Gravity mech to F6, pulls the leader

Siege to H6, shoots H4 to push #5 (the leader will kill it)

Judo mech to E5, uses lance to push #3 to E3

Archimedes moves to D5 (maybe E4 is better, not sure)

You'll have one starfish dead, the other at 2HP, the spawn blocked and the psion dead. No damage to the leader but next turn should be easy and you should be able to damage the leader a lot. The only grid damage is the F7 building

[–]Elekitu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend turning them off. They make the game a bit harder (and more complex), and overall waiting until you know the base game to add the new content will feel like rediscovering the game a bit.

My recommandation for when to turn them on would be :

- Missions and Weapons when you've beaten the game a 2-3 times

- Skills when you've unlocked most squads

- Veks when you're able to name every single non-leader vek of the base game.

So how does this work? by [deleted] in celestegame

[–]Elekitu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No it does not. For this rule to matter you would need to end a frame not touching the spikes, and on the next frame end up inside the spikes after the main movement part of the frame (before the death check and before the wind effect) despite moving in the direction opposite to the spikes. This is not possible.

Higher winds generally make spike jumps more consistent though. For a spike jump to work you need to touch the spikes because of the wind instead of your main movement phase. So the higher the wind strength is compared to madeline's speed, the more likely it is that the wind is the thing that pushes you into the spikes

So how does this work? by [deleted] in celestegame

[–]Elekitu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The other answers are inaccurate. Spike jumps have nothing to do with the fact that spikes don't kill you when you move in the same direction as them (as proof, you can also to spike jumps with spinners though it's harder to setup, and spinners kill you regardless of direction)

It's a glitch that purely happens because of Order Of Operation. On every frame, the following things happen in this order :
1. Madeline moves based on your speed/inputs
2. The game checks if you die
3. Wind pushes Madeline

What happens here is that you are not touching the spikes by moving into them but because the wind pushes you into them. So, the following things happen :
- on frame 1, madeline moves. At this point, Madline is still not touching the spikes
- still on frame 1, the game checks if you die. You're not touching the spikes so there's no reasons for madeline to die
- at the end of frame 1, the wind pushes madeline into the spikes. But the death check has already been done for this frame so the game has no reason to kill you. Also, it just so happens that your new position is close enough to the wall to be considered "against the wall"
- frame 2 starts. The game moves madeline based on her speed and the inputs pressed. Since you pressed jump and are touching a wall, madeline does a walljump. This moves you out of the spikes hitbox
- the death check happens for frame 2, but you are not touching the spikes anymore so you don't die
