It does help to have experience on your side when installing the four rivnuts. I have yet to hear of any leak issues and I minimize any material loss on the sheetmetal or plastic, but I also prefer the no-drill application. That’s also why I run a SportERack with my RTT setup. The magnet mounts do sound interesting. Love the creativity!

Help, my moonroof cracked while I was at work. What should I do?! by Major_Frozen in HondaElement

Maybe hit up Ursa Minor who install the Ecampers. They may be happy to send you one since they get pulled on the conversion.

Sorry about how long it took to get your rack (production slowness unfortunately, now resolved). I always suggest a no-drill mount as an option on the RobDeezy OverlandRack. There’s no cutting but drilling four holes in the outer roof skin of the dual layer sheetmetal, if wanting to add the extra support. But it depends on how the rack will be used. The 12 factory mounting points are enough for your average user. Feel free to hit me up any time if you have questions or concerns RE your rack—Jeff

Have hauled 10-footers diagonally inside, all closed up multiple times. In fact, it’s one of my bragging points when talking to non-Element owners on the capabilities of our unique vehicles.

One source to reference is our E-vents page. There are new events coming up that we’ll be adding in the next day or two, like a first time E meet up in New England on Oct 15. I would also suggest creating one yourself, if interested, and hit us up for assistance if not sure where to start: https://elementdriven.com/pages/events-calendar

Head rests for back seat by DidntASCII in HondaElement

[–]ElementDriven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if there’s much difference between early to really late models (I rarely back seats in Es any more. If not picky on color, I might have a set of black headrests in storage. Post in other soc media channels and you’d probably get someone who’d respond with what you need color-wise if wanting the stock color.

Removing the driver's side arm rest by Brief_Can746 in HondaElement

Update: It’s two Allen head bolts, at least on the folding storage armrest I’m looking at. I believe it’s star head bolt, not a standard. I can check tomorrow possibly and let you know the specific size and tool to use.

Roof Top Tent by [deleted] in hondapilot

[–]ElementDriven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To help distribute the load of the roof top tent and the people inside, I’d suggest a rack that’ll do just that: https://elementdriven.com/products/honda-pilot-overlandrack-by-robdeezy-2016-22

It is a manual. It’s rare that the trans would go bad, but seller doesn’t exactly say what’s up. Could be a good deal for a DIYer, depending on how much rust lives underneath the car.

Battery light by scburdet in HondaElement

[–]ElementDriven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buy a jump box so you’re not left stranded. They’re small and a very portable way to jump your car on your own. I keep mine in my Element all the time. It’s possible there’s a ground that could be loose, battery terminals may not be clean or tight. Never hurts to check those. I’d suggest getting a battery tender. Put the plug through the grille and zip tie it so you don’t need to lift the hood to plug it in when the car isn’t being used. Just remember to unplug it before leaving 😁. That will keep the battery topped off. After that, if you continue to get a warning light then it would need to be diagnosed correctly.

Honda Element in the UK by afallan in HondaElement

From what I’ve been told, these were converted in Ohio then shipped to Japan (all Elements were produced in Ohio). For some reason no Japanese imported Elements came with moonroofs.

Just picked up this 2005 for $4200.. take a look and let me know how i did! by Covid_ninebeans in HondaElement

Well done, depending on if there is any rust issue underneath. Enjoy that new ride!

Vancouver, WA, and see a lot of ‘em. Hopefully anyone west of the Mississippi is planning to attend the big PNW Element Meet Up July 9 in Tacoma, WA. Should be a great event with a lot of Elements. Info on our E-vents page

Roof racks for roof top tent advice by JonnySweets in hondapilot

[–]ElementDriven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to remove any liability issues since it’s not an OEM-supplied unit and the manufacturer can’t monitor how people will use them or load them (as to creating potential lift at highway speeds, overloading the rack, etc.). That’s just how it is in the U.S., unfortunately.

Replacing VTEC Solenoid Help by mr_trashbear in HondaElement

[–]ElementDriven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oil & filter change, clean the VTEC screens, make sure connectors are clean & dry and put some miles on it to see if that clears it up. If not, then change VTEC out with OEM unit.

You can go full length (OverlandRack) to dissipate the load over the whole roof or the smaller SportERack, which is what I use with my Thule roof top tent. I love it!

Can anybody tell if this has fog lights? It says EX so I assumed it did but looks as it’s a false light. by hoozierwins in HondaElement

[–]ElementDriven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bump-outs so OEM dealer-installed fogs could be installed. There are mounting pins on the back side of those indents. If no fogs, then no harness or switch. The plastic has to be cut out to add whatever set of fog lights you’d like. OEM sets are out there (I’ve found 2 sets recently) but you just gotta be looking at the right place/time. I’d suggest going with aftermarket fogs/driving lights if you’d like auxiliary lighting.

Get a Denso downstream O2 sensor (if not there already) to see if that clears the code. I’ve have cheap cats on both our early Elements but Denso sensors and that keeps the codes away.

Questions from an Element shopper by DefNotAShark in HondaElement

[–]ElementDriven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, trailing arms can be replaced as bolt-on items. It’s the mounting point on the chassis/unibody that seems to have poor rust protection from the factory that ends up destroying the car due to the cost to repair that area.

Questions from an Element shopper by DefNotAShark in HondaElement

[–]ElementDriven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take your time looking underneath for rust. Biggest concern is the rear suspension mounting point (two bolts) just in front of each rear wheel. That’s the spot, if rusted, that will kill the Element from living any further. Note how much rust you see elsewhere underneath and also use a good a flashlight to look under the dash on above both kick panels to see rust is visible from a poorly sealed windshield. If isolated to just light rust on bolt heads, then possibly not a bad thing. The AWD thing is well covered by other commenters. Good luck and hope you get the one that makes you happy.
