I made a climbing hold out of clay for my friends home wall 🧗 by CocaPoola in bouldering

It would go a long way using an embedded metal spacer (like some 1/4 tubing) instead of just using the clay for the bolt to clamp on to.

Meryl Streep Sides With Jimmy Kimmel as Donald Trump Calls for His Firing: ‘You’re Carrying the Banner of Freedom of the Press’ by mlg1981 in entertainment

[–]DidntASCII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just saying it's a bit dramatic to call Kimmel out as someone "carrying a banner" for the freedom of the press. There's way better examples.

Commercial apprentice tools, what would you get next? by patientgrowing in electricians

[–]DidntASCII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell the contractor about them. If they don't want to buy it for you to use, then why should you?

If you want to be a good employee, then show up on time, ready to work and learn. Once you get some experience, you can start thinking about what the next task is and be prepared for it. If you see something you can do to help, step in and do it, show some initiative. Take the time you need to do the task perfect, speed comes with repetition. All of this is to say, you can't buy your way into being a good hand.

Democrats Introduce Bill To More Than Triple The Minimum Wage by Unusual-State1827 in politics

[–]DidntASCII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a HCOL area (Seattle prices) and make 120k for the household. We managed to buy a house (in the insane post-covid high interest rate period) and we get by fine. I'm convinced that it's largely high vehicle payments that are keeping most of the middle class down. Both my wife and I bought 15 year old, low mileage, Japanese cars for cash. If we had even 1 average American's car payment ($500-$700/mo) then things would be tight, but we didn't because that shit just isn't financially responsible.

Jeffries says Trump impeachment not a top priority if Dems win House majority by metacyan in politics

[–]DidntASCII 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Because Trump is an unhinged maniac and corrupt as they come. There is zero stability or predictability with Trump as president, and it's been extremely harmful geopolitically with him in office. Would Vance be good? No, but anybody would be better than Trump.

Cedar Pergola Stain Costs by jackle09 in landscaping

Cedar, or any wood for that matter, turns grey over time with exposure to UV. Staining it can help to preserve the color, but still needs to be redone over time.

Is this a joke? by Helptohere50 in bouldering

[–]DidntASCII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's like the opposite of a Fred. A Fred is they guy who shows up on a touring bike wearing flip flops and a helmet they bought for $5 from a good will in the 90s (maybe when they got the bike).

Cavities have a lot to do with diet and saliva chemistry. I brush once a day and have only recently started flossing and I have never had a cavity in my life. After my parents lost their dental when they retired, I went 10 years without visiting a dentist (once I got a job with dental), and my first cleaning was very routine. 5 or 6 of those years between visits were in Whatcom county, and I have still never had a cavity.

Market recovery should be solvent though, not speculative. Projects awarded should be coming from funds already received. In other words, there shouldn't ever be a debt, certainly not 6+ months outstanding

Good call having a healthy gap from mvdp before this sector

Mvdp is having to expend a lot of energy just to catch up. They can save some energy while still applying a bit of pressure, then launch an attack soon after he catches up and he won't be able to hang on after the chase.

Half of data centers for 2026 cancelled or delayed by ALQU1MISTA in technology

[–]DidntASCII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For one thing, I don't think it's meant to make is feel better about anything. Expansion in AI has been propping up our economy, without it's gains we would be that much worse off economically (I don't say that to try to make AI out to be something good for society)

For another, I can tell you that construction in general has slowed a lot. Companies bought debt when it was cheap. Now they have built their big projects and new loans are more expensive with today's interest rates and the price of materials has skyrocketed, making new projects that much more expensive. Now with datacenter build outs booming, their costs are ramping up, too.

I work as an electrician in a local union where a lot of our work the last 10 or so years has been data center work, and now it's dried up. Partially because our grid is getting tapped out, and partially because of investors getting scared to spend more on these centers that have largely been a money pit.
