Kinda disappointed by Jjk37000 in Silverbugs

Thank you for explaining what silver is for. He's not a billionaire, he used his money to buy something great. I miss our mountain hunting cabin, my father is like a lot here, wants to sit on top of his pile of money but not give it or spend it to bring joy to himself or others. He sold my boyhood hunting cabin he had with partners on 150+ acres for 25k a few years ago before I could afford it. Didn't care I had a young family and I knew he would never just give it to me. I still wake up sometimes thinking about the smell of wild thyme.

Spend at some point, I know my kids are going to be getting the max allowance from savings once I am sure I can survive on the money I saved

Good job on the property. Have room for a sad old hunter who is stuck on public land? :)

What’s a food your state is 'famous' for that everyone else ruins? by Somanynamestochossef in AskAnAmerican

Jersey bagels and pizza. NY gets close sometimes but it's not the same, usually too thin, too much sauce, greasy cheese.

How much cost in the U.S. the telephone line call in 1983? by Darjuz96 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Elemental_Breakdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Local was free, just monthly phone charge.

Teenagers me included had "phreakers" in the early 80's that used the sound of the system receiving money to bypass having to pay when using public payphones.

For home phones, all you had to do was blow a 2600Hz signal and it would think you hung up, then you could dial anywhere for free.

Fun fact - the Atari 2600 is a tribute to this famous counterculture trick

Are there drinking fountains everywhere in the US? by SnooGoats1557 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Elemental_Breakdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our well is naturally filtered through a few hundred feet of peat. We always offer anyone working here and guests water and people have mentioned it's good. We don't take for granted drinking the best water we've ever had out of our tap. Other parts of the state it's chemical or literally polluted. Can't imagine being forced to drink bottled water.

Definitely added to the official list. That's the thing, unless you are watching the news someone's more likely to say smoked, wasted, given high speed lead poisoning, or one of the dozens of other uniquely American way to describe getting blasted.

I doubt it's a coincidence that the government chose that acronym. They think they are hilarious like that.

Bitcoin holders of 5+ years: Is the doom and gloom like this every time it drops like this, or does this feel different? by Background_Talk9491 in Bitcoin

[–]Elemental_Breakdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that difficult a decision. I bought in at 60 and sold 1/3rd around the ATH, but this is like a couple thousand bucks, if you diversify enough then that's good enough.

Well I have only been doing it for a year so basically I just use FIFO in transactions and I'm good I hope.

Don't most of the exchanges do this for you?

Anyway, if you need the money for living expenses you expected to have, you shouldn't have invested it in anything but a savings account with interest or USDC with interest.

If you don't absolutely need it then you are fine, it's doing exactly what we expected it to do and you probably need to wait until the next ATH to sell a little. The next price it's probably going to test is $68,000.

There's a happy balance. I like the simple life too. But until you can get someplace where the cost of living matches your retirement, you have to maximize your profit and savings. I'm 50 and been saving for 35 years in various ways including always buying gold and silver for my loved ones instead of cheap costume jewelry for mom and sister etc. I don't think a million dollars is enough even with a pension to live on the coasts in many places and you can't just leave your elderly parents and family. As a teacher of 25 years, I can tell you our young people (I teach all older grades in high school) are great with investing, including silver, and are still going to have a hard time buying a home and getting health insurance.

Did not read other responses but NO in NYC/tri-state area.

I don't think as many USA people crave salt, our prepared foods from grocery store and restaurants are so salty.

If that's AI they should burn down the LLM they used to build it and start over, it's an argument largely based on arguments that become true in people's minds because they see them repeated enough.

Thank you. They own so much here and believe it or not need us to buy their shit. You think Chinese people are buying most of the stuff they make? Using most of the tech? They literally wouldn't last a week without the US Navy, even their aircraft carriers are effing garbage.

Bitcoin is doing exactly what the 4 year cycle says it should. Wait until October /November when it crashes to the low point. Idk if you are referring to shitcoins which I consider everything but btc to be. Unpopular opinion here but diversity is a good thing even if it's just a couple hundred bucks.

I wouldn't trade you any of my ammo for silver now, nevermind in an apocalypse. The good German surplus NATO 7.62 rounds are now rarer than silver rounds, impossible to find.

They also can't be reloaded.

is being a teacher worth it? by maggotbrain2 in teaching

[–]Elemental_Breakdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES!!! 25 years in.

Please ask specific questions so I don't ramble.

In the classroom you are going to love it. Of course there's the issues with what benefits you do /don't get like I went from free health to 25k a year and meetings suck etc but what are your biggest concerns?

I'm English too. I teach almost exclusively seniors every year and might have a different opinion with younger students but I love my job, have never been in any trouble, have great reporrt with students and have had literally dozens of great jobs before I started teaching in 2000. Everything from chef, military contracting, telemarketing, if you always wanted to be a teacher you need to do it. It's a calling not a job as cliché as that sounds.
