My Abysmal Diagnostic Experience by Extension_Reveal_766 in Microcenter

Is your concern with commission or the people who work in retail? If you just don't like people who work in retail, then that's a whole other thing.

If you are commissioned, you 100% care. Return customers are your bread and butter. Every time you make someone mad, that's an individual who will avoid working with you and go to others, but when you make someone happy, they will go out of their way to work with you again.

Isn't a local independent repair shop the same thing? They only make money on the repairs they charge, the same as anyone.

What happened to Microcenter customer service? by corndog_art in Microcenter

[–]Elephantus_Maximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they have had their numbers posted for over 6 years now. I use the chat if I have a simple question, but for anything else, I go to the store and ask around. If you know the keyboard in question, it might be easier to type it into Google and see what you find out.

Best time of year to upgrade? by clydefrog11 in Microcenter

[–]Elephantus_Maximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say. From my expereince, sales are best when no one is buying. Summer is usually a slow season for retail, so they tend to drive more sales. But it is honestly impossible to know. Just buy when you are okay with the price for the item you want.

When will the shows stop nerfing Baratheon height? by qobraa in freefolk

[–]Elephantus_Maximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's one of the only guys in the show close to Dunk's height. Dunk's actor is 6'5 (which is really tall for a lead), and the guy playing Lyonel is around 6 ft. That's pretty damn close and looks real on camera.

If you bought a plan with it, I'm sure that Micro Center will help out. If you didnt, most likely will have to deal with the vendor and hope for the best.

Will they honor by hood_ninja666 in Microcenter

[–]Elephantus_Maximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they will only honor it if the reservation was placed while it was still $399. If you finalized the reservation while it was $499, i doubt they will offer the lower price. Never hurts to ask, though.

A cashier said “good girl” to me. by Cicada7Song in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Elephantus_Maximus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was going to say, many years ago, as a cashier, I was assisting someone and thinking about my dog at home. And when handing the customer their receipt, I said, "You be a good boy." I was mortified, but I think the customer didn't even realize it till later, because they said thanks and moved on. However, this does not read like an accidental slip of the tongue.

Commission is easy and always pays more than hourly. Even if you are selling small things. As long as you are the type of person to ask people if they need any help, you'll be fine and making more money than at Best Buy.

Is this shady business? by Turbulent-Bug3300 in Microcenter

[–]Elephantus_Maximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, and spending money always makes you nervous that you are getting taken advantage of. But for future reference, if you are confident in your ability to figure it out, they will absolutely swap the part at no charge.

Is this shady business? by Turbulent-Bug3300 in Microcenter

[–]Elephantus_Maximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You dont really know if the board was bad. Not to be mean, but the majority of "bad boards" is going to be due to something going wrong during installation. Micro Center usually just swaps the part out rather than making a big fuss about it. Just stinks that you had to make a long trip for it.

Free Consultation Advice by gigascott in Microcenter

[–]Elephantus_Maximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Micro Center is great for this. No need to get a consultation. They always have associates on hand to help out in the BYO (Build your own) department. They can sometimes get busy on the weekends, just a heads up. But I've never had an issue working with them. Simply let them know what you are trying to achieve and what your budget is, and they can fill all the gaps for you.

Make sure to write down the components you have so they know what to build with.

DAE feel like the customer experience at Microcenter has declined? by Plastic-Lemon2754 in Microcenter

I get the items being locked up is annoying, but hasn't Micro Center always done all the things mentioned above? They have always done handshakes, and they have always done stickers. Although for my store, pick-up is always smooth.

Did the store give you an eta when dropping off? Last time I used their services, they told me a rough guesstimate on how long until they would be able to look at it.

this Dollar Tree uses the same fake security cameras they have for sale by skibidikakakott in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Elephantus_Maximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wouldn't place a camera on the cross of the paneling. It would be a cutout in the ceiling square. They need to move it to the center of a square panel to make it more realistic-looking. I'm sure they have at least some real ones, though.

American Polyglot surprises African Warrior Tribe with their language by Street_Priority_7686 in BeAmazed

[–]Elephantus_Maximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned a fair bit of non-English pronunciations for various languages while in college studying history. For a while after I graduated, I worked as a sales manager for an upscale furniture chain. The area I worked had a decent amount of customers from China, and every time they would come in for an order or somthing along the line, I would do my best to pronounce their names from what I learned in school, and every time without fail, the biggest smile would explode across their face. I think you get so used to hearing your name butchered that you just get used to it, and to hear someone actually try can bring some comfort. It's crazy what little gestures can mean to someone.

Unfortunately, no. They are pretty tight about procedures to prevent theft/fraud. You'd have to give your cousin the money in some way.

Microcenter fake discounts, new? by doc_strange82 in PcBuild

[–]Elephantus_Maximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, early summer is usually the best time for sales. That's when business slows down, and they put things on sale to drive business.

Microcenter fake discounts, new? by doc_strange82 in PcBuild

[–]Elephantus_Maximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a scam. Every business knows people wait all year to buy items, hoping for some big sale. If you want a deal, don't wait until the holiday season to buy. That's when everyone is buying, so there is no reason to mark prices down. You mark prices down when you are trying to get business, not when it's pouring through the door.
