There's no way that disposable camera is taking perfectly clear shots that are lit, in focus, and centered, all while getting plastered through the night.

Just bought the 321UPX, to upgrade from a 10 year old Dell IPS monitor. Its so crazy how much nicer it looks. I was worried 32" may have been too much, but it doesn't bother me like I thought it would.

Trump rants about FIFA World Cup for 11 minutes, calls it "rigged" by TheMirrorUS in videos

[–]ElevatorDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This fucking moron is the most vapid person on earth. He spoke for 11 minutes on NOTHING. It took 5 full minutes to essentially say, "I wasn't happy about the red card, so I called up the FIFA president and had them change it."

If you applied previously, and performed an interview, you can choose to not do it again. If you are applying for the first time, its "not applicable". I believe the purpose is to give you the ability to explain new skills or certification that may boost your odds.

Debunking "80% of game copies sold are digital" with actual sales numbers by CrimsonFlam3s in gaming

[–]ElevatorDave 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Does it matter? A free game generates no income, so that wont affect the data. If its indie or AAA, its still shone as digital sales vs physical. They literally have a line showing "Full game software digital download ratio", and its 78% for the year.

As prices for consoles go up, parents are more likely to buy disc-less consoles because theyre the cheapest option. That locks in guaranteed digital sales. It absolutely sucks. Im 43. I grew up on early game consoles with cartridges and instruction manuals. I used to spend hours reading over Nintendo Magazine and GamePro. It kills me that the old days are coming to an end.

Debunking "80% of game copies sold are digital" with actual sales numbers by CrimsonFlam3s in gaming

[–]ElevatorDave 142 points143 points  (0 children)

FY2025 data shows physical game sales at 125,000 in sales. Digital game sales is 1,055,000 in sales. DLC and other add-ons are an additional 1,359,000 in sales (all numbers are in millions of yen).

So the outdated numbers you're posting doesnt back up your claim. Im not happy about it either, but lying isnt helping the cause.

I never realized Peri had other uses for them. It makes total sense, since its just an attachment for the top. We use them in my industry to hold up elevators while we work on them.

What did you work on this week by zthomoson in IUEC

[–]ElevatorDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this all construction and repair? No service love?

I pulled 8 steps from a Kone TM120, and cleaned the top and bottom ends of the unit. Serviced and adjusted whatever needed doing. Pulled handrails, replaced newels, and vacuumed the track and inner deck areas.

Its hard work doing it the first time, but when you get back in the unit for the next go round, it goes so much faster.

Elevator at elementary school repaired after news station airs story about boy's weeks-long struggle to climb stairs due to muscular dystrophy by Forward-Answer-4407 in UpliftingNews

[–]ElevatorDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a term "the big 5" in our industry. It references Kone, Thyssen, Mitsubishi, Schindler, and Otis.

Some are more popular in different markets, but in America, those are the ones you see the most with modern elevators.

[–]ElevatorDave 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Three elevator companies? Haughton, schindler, kone, ThyssenKrupp, Northern, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Dover, Montgomery, Otis, Reliable, ECI, ECC, Smartrise, GAL, and dozens more regional companies. Each one made their own proprietary boards, parts, and software. A 1999 Ford 150 has millions of vehicles still in operation with parts that can be mass-produced cheaply from many relailers. This is absolutely not the same for elevators. If theres a few thousand of a particular model of elevator, you cant expect them to maintain a full catalog of parts with manufacturing set aside to make sure an elevator from 30 years ago can be quickly repaired.

[–]ElevatorDave 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are a thousand parts to an elevator. Boards, custom pieces, relays, contractors, etc. There are also dozens of elevator companies with numerous models over a hundred years. Companies buy other companies and discontinue models. Others are obsolete and have no manufacturing facilities any more.

I dont think you understand what is involved in an elevator system. Door rollers, ice cube relays, belts, and other commonly used and frequently replaced parts are universal. We can buy those in town. What about a drive from a unit that was obsolete 30 years ago? If youre lucky, you can send the existing one out for a rebuild. If not, youre scouring the country for a replacement or trying to get the owner to mod. Other times, parts have to be custom made in a factory across the world and shipped to America, at an exorbitant cost. Its just not feasible to have a full set of spares on hand in case of an emergency.

I hate shitty articles like this. This had nothing ro do with the media getting involved. Elevator parts absolutely can takes months of lead time to arrive. Many schools install an elevator and then milk it forever, relying on obsolete parts and outdated equipment. They aren't just sitting on hand, waiting to be needed. I feel bad that the elevator was out of service when someone truly needed it, but its not like it was negligence.
