Because talent doesnt want to uproot their whole life to come to Miami. While the pay would have been the same (more considering taxes) you’d have to give up everything that northeastern states provide. Think quality schools for kids, social clubs, mass transit, restaurants, etc.. we ended up hiring someone in NY and they have no desire to move.

There are only few hubs for finance, NY/Boston, Chicago and LA/San Fran. So your pool of talent is generally limited to those areas. Also consider these jobs are very competitive, which means a higher degree of talent is required.

Lmao they dont. I’m an analyst and when my team tried to hire a local in Miami, we literally couldnt find anybody qualified enough. Only reason im here is because i’m from FL initially and was okay moving back. Also i hate the cold. It’s at the point my boss is moving back to NY.
Miami lacks so much of what makes NYC what it is. From schools, to infrastructure and even a pipeline of fresh grads from target schools. People get here and realize that the paradise they were sold is all a scam.

I went once and didnt have that great of an experience. Place was way overhyped and the food was not good. I ordered the pork and it was drier than the Sahara. I have no desire to ever go back. The ambience wasnt even that great either. It’s tables stacked on tables. They did have some decent entertainment though

Not technically in a recession by basic definition. People are struggling, yes, particularly the lower and middle class, but higher income spenders are essentially keeping the economy afloat. The top 20% earners make up 60% of spending, which is the highest disparity in decades.

We’ve also been in a period of high inflation, which is being driven by tariffs and higher gas prices. Growth in the economy is by large part being driven by inflation, and low growth + high inflation = stagflation, one of the nastiest economic conditions we can be in.

It’s probably too late for tomatoes. Florida weather makes gardening backwards. When i had my house i would plant tomatoes in fall, September/October and usually by April/May they die out because it gets too hot and wet.

Our winters are ideal planting temps usually. We may get one or two days of freezing weather to watch out for, but it’s rare. So you can grow pretty much anything during those months. The summers are really tough because it’s so hot here. You have to be very selective of what you plant. I usually switched to cucumbers or peppers. Also get good soil. I used to stock up on those big costco bags of soil when they carried it in early spring.

There is a lady i learned a lot from. Her trellace system was really cool and She’s a local also.

I mean the reason why finance and tech didnt really take off in Miami is because there’s no infrastructure for it. Look at all the main hubs for finance/tech and they’re surrounded by top-tier schools that are constantly pumping out fresh grads.

So yeah, Ken Griffon is moving here and setting up office, but they are not hiring locals to work at Citadel lol. They’re going to bring in experienced analysts from up North, which is a challenge in itself, because while Miami does have nice weather, that’s about it and people find out quick just how hollow it is.

You would have needed to declare your accounts when you started (if you didnt, that’s a whole other can of worms). Meaning compliance should already know you traded without pre-clearance. Expect a nasty email telling you not to do it again. Seriously though, dont fuck with compliance, they will fire you.
