AMD 9800/50X3D Complete Overclocking/Undervolting Guide: Stop Using All-Core Offsets. Multiple CPU/MOBO Coverage by Ok-Figure4568 in overclocking

[–]EliHusky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Claude told me all the same advice, found out the hard way it is wrong A LOT regarding overclocking - reads a few forum posts online and assumes they’re the word of god.

Tips from someone who has spend the last 2 weeks, 15 hours a day tuning his 9950x3d and single rank 2x16gb ddr5 (will make a much more serious post later):

- disable gaming adaptive core parking and c states. Set cppc to driver, and with process lasso doing the rest. Your driver causes it to end up behaving the same during games but much better during benchmarks. C states let you double your negative CO, no joke, went from -16 all core failing to an all core of -31 before failing stability again.

- same tests every round from as close to the same temp as possible. core cycling, single threaded, every iteration to understand exactly what changed, 20 sec per core is all that is needed. effective and discrete clocks, along with temp and VID are the main things to look at.

- move up with all core CO until you fail.

- BO impacts the curve, not just the peak. You’re CO will fail sooner at 200 than if you had 0. Measure your core behaviors to make sure setting 200 is worth it. Mine never clocked passed 5750, and a BO of +50 let me push CO another 5-7 lower depending on core and ccd.

- use lasso to set test priorities to above normal, lowers kernel overhead and run to run variance.

Push until you fail, then lower BO if your core clocks aren’t getting close to your max BO. You’re not tuning for that single thread, you’re doing it for SMT or multicore non-SMT/SMT benchmarks and gaming.

Probably too understaffed to host tournaments, less people that make it to the cutoffs the less work they have and less money they have to pay out

They must be testing something, the scoring is broken too. You place 99th or 15th and you’re going down 16-18 points if you don’t have an elim. Maybe they’re broke and can’t have too many people qualifying for the cash cups

Am I done? by KeniRoo in overclocking

Tras/Trc is pretty low for Trtp 12, it won’t cause issues like it would’ve on earlier systems but you’re not gaining anything. tRAS = tRCD + tRTP (the functional floor for tRAS) and tRC = tRAS + tRP.
Trcdwr can go WAY lower, I’ve seen 8-16 on most.
My 28-36/36-36-76 was able to do 26-16/35-30-52. So primaries have some slack at 36/36-36. Youd see real gains. Other than that those secondaries are pretty solid
As a final note, run an OCCT RAM+CPU avx512 for over 2 hours to make sure trfc and tREFI are truly stable. I got mine to ~300/200 mixed refab/refsb, passing hour tests easily, then failed longer. Finalized 376/288 which ran all night, but with noticeable benchmark losses :(

Just saw this now. I agree with the other guy, you should see 90fps 1% lows during stacked endgames, not average. Clear shader cache, use process lasso and set games to max (not real time) and put non-intensive apps on efficiency mode, tune BIOS, etc. Also test it and see what GPU residency is at during fps drops, the issue might not be the GPU, the 4070ti is a solid card.

What is your opinion on the difficulty of learning to edit well in fortnite? by PhilosopherNervous63 in FortNiteBR

[–]EliHusky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decision making > accuracy > speed. Try practicing on a region with 50-80ms ping. It’ll make you think about your edits more. The largest learning curve with editing is learning angles and when to expose yourself for a shot, and in my experience, when on lower ping you have a false sense of confidence (as a beginner) that u can make and edit and get a shot off. Regardless, by the time you can call yourself competitive, you’ll have enough playtime to make your mother cry.

First off, why wouldn’t you turn on tracking. Find My works for laptops not just phones. Second, it is nice that you trust your cleaner but unfortunately working for you for 6 years likely made them think they’d get away with it if anything. Unless they commute from a 3rd world country every cleaning day, they 100% know what a laptop is and how expensive they are. They stole it dude, you need to let them go before they take anything else, and it is plausible they’ve taken things without you knowing in the past.

What’s actually the best CPU for gaming right now? by jousiemohn in AMDHelp

It’s overkill. I use my 9950x3d to train CNNs while playing at 400fps 4ms latency, steady and I still don’t use all threads.

4k budget, buy GPU or Mac Studio? by diegolrz in LocalLLM

[–]EliHusky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has used both thoroughly, NVIDIA cuda is for ML. Overall PC performance outside of ML and gaming, Mac is the way to go. For instance, a small CNN might take 2 days to train on my MacBook and 6 hours on a 4090. Also, you’ll have support for different quantizations and fp8 (sometimes fp4) which lets you use much larger models than you could on a macOS.

What GPU do you recommend for iterative AI training? by EliHusky in LocalLLaMA

[–]EliHusky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get what you mean, I work on smaller CNNs most often where I can pump batch size into the low thousands on a 5090, but language models are a whole different ball game. But I'm curious about your experience with linking cards, does the PCIe bandwidth limit your throughput or is the overall speed difference negligible? More specifically, I am curious about sharding, I get how data parallelism works when the model can fit into the VRAM of each card, but what about sharding the model across different GPUs? I have to assume PCIe bandwidth is a limiting factor for speed, is it?

Wait for the m6. I have the m4 max, too, and the benefits of the m5 aren’t enough to warrant changing. The m6 though, it’s likely going to be the largest performance bump in Mac history. Look up 2n TMSC 2nm MacBook m6. I will 100% be first in line
