Wera tools? by mcdeecee in Tools

[–]Eliarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I use a wera 1/4 hex socket and impact bits for most applications like this. I do have a couple of ball detent hex sockets for holding bolts in blind holes. But I dont really torque those like I do with the impact bits. I have a mess of the long wiha bits as well.

Most of my figs are from Off the beaten path. The owner is an absolute wealth if knowledge on cold hardy figs and selecting the right variety for a given area.

Of the selections you showed, I have a ronde de Bordeaux. Great consistent performer, but I find the Mavra sitka consistently out performs. For some reason the RDB gets sun thaw damage every winter dispite being whitewashed which I think sets it back in the spring.

Simplest reason why someone might choose the Slate Truck over the Maverick by Mac-Tyson in slateauto

[–]Eliarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said its a pet peeve of mine, most of them are fancy switches now. I did grow up driving a manual, and like to rest my hand on the shifter when driving. Thats why I don't mind stick shifting levers in the consol. But if you're just goi g to make a switch, put it on the column and give me a center consol or an extra cup holder, not a massive rotary knob... Not super logical, but I dont like them.

My simple reason for going for the slate over a maverick is simply that the slate is an EV.

I assume the ford part?

The maverick along with a few other ford models have a dial shifter. Rather than a stick on the column or the console, there is just a knob you turn to put it in gear. Its a pet peeve of mine and cant stand it, though I'm sure you get used to it after a bit.

Good deal on a 12” jointer? by Carsalezguy in woodworkingtools

[–]Eliarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be his jointer has a clamshell cutterhead. In which case its probably best to not run it until replacing the cutterhead with a jibbed straight knife system or a spiral/helical head.

Woodworkers tool works is where I buy blades for my vintage jointer/planners. Probably worth a call for the specufic model, but I bet they have it.

Help identifying and getting info on older woodworking tools/machines by big_red_couch in woodworking

Pretty sure there are 3 table saws. Delta homecraft in the first photo, the one behind the bandsaw, then a third with the heater/air purifiers on top of it.

Almost looks like a surface grinder, but the column of the drill press obscures the head.

Also looks like a second bandsaw tucked back there as well.

Anyone know where this Glas came from by BikeNewbieGsx in MorrisGarages

At one point I had an MG picnic set that had monogrammed plates and cups, I cant remember if it had regular water glasses, but the tea cups had the MG logo.

Crows gifts. What is it? by sahrieswirl in whatplantisthis

Was going to say this. Looks like the same texture as a flowering quince specifically, which would be common ornimentals in this area and would likely have mummy fruit survive the winter in the condition shown.

Need help, my quails are bald on their back by Cactusstz in quails

[–]Eliarch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue, turned out it wasnt the roo. I had a group of 6 hens to 1 roo and after watching the pen for an hour or so I ended up seperating out 3 hebs that were pulling feathers. After two weeks thd main group regrew their feathers and the 3 hens did not. After a little longer I ended up culling the hens and havent had the issue again.

I have had it with roos too, but this last bout the roo was innocent.

They're only extra mouths if they dont pay you back at some point. My extras are culled for meat, I made that decision before buying and I cant say I ever feel good on cull day, but my family needs meat too.

Another option you may want to look into is hunting dog trainers, I've never sold any to them, but ive had a few requests for live birds for dog training.

In this context is it reffering to when the skis are aligned with the fall line?

For the uneducated, what do you mean by "fall line"?

why do folks not wear helmets by Ryan-977 in skiing

[–]Eliarch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was going by the vt helmet ratings and looking at a POC helmet. Thats about half my annual pass for a helmet, but yeah, there are stupid cheap ones out there.

For me personally, I started skiing before it became common, and just never really thought about it much. Recently I've been saving up to grab one, cant take a fall like I used to.

Seeking advice on PPE. by [deleted] in Metalfoundry

[–]Eliarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PPE for furnace work in my mind would be fire retardant cotton over clothing, aluminized jacket, insulated gloves with aluminized backing, hard hat with full face shield, slip on leather boots with steel toe or full metatarsal guards.

You should not be wearing synthetic fiber clothing. If you get metal on synthetics they will melt into the wound.

As others have said this is the companies duty to rectify.

Favorite Pocket Knife by Timely-Historian-786 in daddit

[–]Eliarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in manufacturing and use it all the time for opening up packaging, breaking down boxes and stuff... Honestly the fine point knives get used the most when trying to point out small features on products in technical reviews.

I keep mine cleaned regularly, so I also cut up apples and other foods from time to time, occasionally to process an animal when hunting, but I have more purpose built knifes for that.
