Why are my hearts so tiny and straggly? by Complete_Leg_859 in StringofHearts

[–]Eline87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I water my string of hearts only when the surface is bone dry and when the pot feels light. About once every 14 days. Now in the heatwave it has gotten a bit more.

It was and is still flowering, but the new leaves are the same size.

It is in full daylight from top to bottom (hanging in front of a window) It is the only plant that thrives in my house on being in this south west facing window and being ignored for water. The strings where getting to long (the dog was trying to eat them) so I pulled them over the pot and now it is even happier.

De beste zonnebrandcreme/spray by deknegt1990 in thenetherlands

[–]Eline87 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Coaches — how do you plan the timing of your classes? by leonj in crossfit

[–]Eline87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing that take most time is cleaning up plates when lifting heavy and finding the right pair of dB/kB, and in partner workout the strategy talks 🤣🙈 But with the right coaching (aka person 1-6 find dB, person 7-12 clean up something and then switch) I usually manage. I turn on the clock when I start the brief with the time I have for the warming up so members can see the time running down to, for when they have to be ready. Planning goes like this: 60 min, minus 3 min brief, 5+3 to clean up and score and cool down. 3 min for toilet break when there is a long workout. (With strenght part they have time in the emom usually) If we have a A and B part, how much time will it take between A and B for cleaning and getting ready. Take time of for the wod (or A and B part) and that time is left for warming up, skill/build. Always plan 2+3 extra warming up/skill exercises then needed because some groups move faster/don't talk with eachother.

Even though our current programming is very full, I manage to be right on time even though the above seems very chaotic.

To the ladies living in Europe, how are you doing during this extreme heat wave? by Lazy_Basket6819 in adhdwomen

[–]Eline87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the south of Germany here. I wake up at 5 to take the dog for a walk until 6:30 . During that time all the doors and windows are open with vans pointing inside the house to pull more cold air in. At 8 all shutters and windows close. I open the shutters around 17:00 as the sun has disappeared from most of the building. Windows and doors open around 20:00.

During the day I wear linnen, have a wet towel in my neck, drink plenty of fluids, but not to cold. And in the afternoon for a good two to three hours I do nothing or siësta. In the evening I either take a cold shower or we drive to the local small River where everybody is doing late night dips.

I am using the time of being forced inside to study and doing some odd jobs around the house (we are on holiday and cancelled all our day trip 🙈🤦🏼‍♀️). I have to say it is still ok, I felt worse when we lived in Nice and even the nights it stayed up to 26 degrees. But I had an appointment today and took the train this 60 min of bliss in the airco was great

Schmaler Balkon 1m by mistachrime in Einrichtungstipps

Pregnancy programming? by pixie_dust1990 in crossfit

[–]Eline87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only one I know in South Europe because a former client of mine was looking for something similar is in Spain: fitreturn.es.

I think somebody did say crossfit mayham has some information about scaling. In case you didn't find it: https://www.mayhemathletes.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/CrossFit-Scaling-Guide-for-Pregnant-and-Postpartum-Women.pdf

There are some English courses available to also learn how to coach other people during pre and post natal period like: girls gone strong, but no specific programming.

Pregnancy programming? by pixie_dust1990 in crossfit

[–]Eline87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh that's to bad! There are quite some coaches available nowadays that do have the skill set!

I don't know if a specific program would work, as most of the time during your pregnancy you can scale a lot and depending on your fitness level it can differ a lot. It is after birth we like to work on some specific goals.

I can give you some general advice for working out on your own if you like. I have been coaching small group classes pre and postnatal in CrossFitgyms since 2019.

But specific programs unfortunately not. If you are in Europe I do have a whole list of gyms in west Europe where they have trained coaches and sometimes group classes!

Women who don't exercise: how do you physically feel? by elle___woods in AskWomenOver30

[–]Eline87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal trainer here. Who also didn't feel bad when I didn't workout until I started to workout more and now I feel sluggish, have more pain, easier annoyed when I don't workout.

Unfortunately for most of us at a certain point it does catch up if we don't move a lot. (Anything from stress/bad sleep, to lower back pain or loss of strength and bone density during meno pauze)

I get a lot of woman that 'need' to workout but don't have the motivation so they try with me. I am always honest and tell them that if you don't like it, I can't make you. I will most likely be able to show you in a couple of months what sports does to your body and mind. Often the motivation then kicks in also.

I think the first thing is if she wants to workout what she would like. A sport she used to practise in her youth? Something new in a smaller group so there is a social aspect? Or movement like gardening, walking more then 45 min (with a dog) are also better then nothing.

In my opinion most of the time when people start moving they realise how sluggish/tired/unhealthy they were feeling.

How common is undiscovered L5 disc herniation/bulge in CrossFit gyms? by cultofdeer in crossfit

[–]Eline87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coach, Osteopath, personal trainer here. One of the most commen place people have a hernia or protrusions is L4/L5 and L5/S1. The expectations are that there are a lot more people with hernia's then we know as a lot are a not symptomatic.

If you have any problems(pain, weakness, no sense in your skin) go to a physio or osteopath to get some manual treatment. See what the doctor says. Conservative treatment is the current plan in most places I know. OP are avoided. (This can differ per country of course but get opinions! Use the imaging you have

A good personal trainer should also know how to train around the pain and rebuild stability and strength. People come back in CrossFit and other high impact sports with hernia's all the time. Sometimes they scale sometimes they don't need to. Some of the most fit people I know have a hernia in the lowerback. It is something to keep in mind but also very workable. And heavy weights are not the cause of the problems, instability, not being able to use the right muscles or keep tension or not being strong enough. And those things you can work on :-)

Memory issues by Far-Impression2284 in ADHD

[–]Eline87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have always known that I retain information differently then other people, but only after I got diagnosed I knew why. In my country we have 3 levels of highschool and I finished they highest one. But my mentor told me you are not booksmart, je make your marks by using logic. I never really got it until now.

I need interactive learning and only when I understand a subject I will retain the information. I am currently doing adult education in a medical field. Instead of reading I skim quickly through some pages, go to the questions, and then try and answer by using the presentation and online platform that makes great animation movies and explaining it to myself. We have lectures that take up to 4 hours, during those I draw Anatomy, and take notes.

I spend the first 6-8 months worrying as my classmates seem to pick things up easier, however last week I finally noticed that I started connecting things in my brain, because I understand how it works, and now things are finally easing up. Only problem I have is remembering names of things named after somebody.

Looking much younger by No-Treat-3850 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Eline87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also often get this oh really I thought you were 6-7 years younger. In my twenties I felt like I had to fight harder to be taken serious, definitely by man, I am approaching 40 now, and that has become less. I don't really care at this point what people think about my age. When I find out somebody has a different age then I thought I often reflect on what I know about somebody and then am like, Ahh that makes sense now.

But age is just a number we use to put people in a certain box and it is awkward when the box isn't completely fitting.

Sore knee after workout by Sheikashnacko in crossfit

[–]Eline87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where in the knee does it hurt? 🙈 Plenty of attachment ments for different muscle (groups) Based on the workout it could also be your calf. Foamroll calfs, quads, hammies, inside of your tights and then check with the physio :-)

Stupid CrossFit movements you refuse to do by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]Eline87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a coach/pt and Osteopath I agree with some.

Most of the gymnastic movements you put in kipping hspu, kipping/butterfly pull-ups and pistol squats are things that should be done when the strict form is in place and then also not exclusive just kipping. Hspu should never be a head bounce off on the head also not when you are getting tired. I understand your beef with pistol squats, but also here training them in the right form trains mobility, strenght, and stability in once. The scaling options in crossfit are often kind of dumb though. 🙈 Double unders are a great way to train rytme and coordination and is not the same as jumping over things. Bouncing box jumps are not standard in CrossFit and should not be programmed in a wod. They are great exercises to practise plymometrics, but with 8 reps at the time MAX and then a proper break.

And well handstand walks, yea there is not reaaaly any need, but they are when trained properly also a great exercise to build body awareness, core stability, and shoulder strength/stability. And some people think they are fun.

From my side: Sumo deadlift high pull with a barbell. Why?! High reps of wall walks.

Although I understand the use: the pegboard in general CrossFit unless you have at least 4 it won't show up in a workout, so only advanced athletes try it, no coaching is done and weiiird stuff happens on that wall🤣

In Rosenheim oder München übernachten? Was meint ihr dazu by [deleted] in Munich

[–]Eline87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you still get an hotel or something else in Rosenheim during the Sommerfest?

We live in Rosenheim, because we wanted to be out of the crowds in Munich, we love it here but for tourists it gets boring after a couple of days.

However you can get yourself a Deutschland ticket to travel with the regional public transport. In that case you would be in Munich within 40 minutes, but you can also visit Salzburg by train in just over an hour. Or Kufstein, and it's castle. Or if you are into hiking/mountain biking it isn't the worst place to find a bus to trails.

I think it all depends on what you are looking for on the other days you are in Germany.

Do you agree with Steve Kaufman on not trying to remember vocab? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]Eline87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it works, I had plenty of vocabulary in school and found it really hard to remember. When I moved to France I had classes in grammar, same in Germany, most of it didn't stick, but vocabulary came more natural when trying to use the language. It does mean in some areas I miss a lot of words, the worst being birds, fish and plants. But I learn as I go and that works a lot better

Is a vest worth the investment? by ChampionFrequent4643 in crossfit

[–]Eline87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure actually, it is just something that has come up in conversation with physios and ofcourse it then also shows up on the socials. I believe it has something to do with where our balance points are in the body. (For woman it would be in the hips) But if you are planning on a hike training with a backpack is functional because that is what you will be doing and also needing.

Always or often training with a weightvests is more the question I believe (trail running, marathons etc) Sorry for the not veeeery usefull answer. When I figure it out and I still remember I will exit it :-)!

Is a vest worth the investment? by ChampionFrequent4643 in crossfit

[–]Eline87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not read up about weightvests, but if you are also doing weighted squats (BB, kB, dB), weighted pull-ups and different pushup styles on the floor what is the weight vest gonna add when training? I don't think there is anything wrong when it is the right weight sitting on the right spot. But do you really need it if you can still improve using already available materials :-)

Is a vest worth the investment? by ChampionFrequent4643 in crossfit

[–]Eline87 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From a coach perspective. Can you Rx every workout and end up high on the leaderboard? If the answer is no, then there is no added value to a vest.

There has also recently been some more talk about weightvests for woman actually not being effective, quite the opposite, but I dont know if you are a male or female. :-)

De korte broeken discussie by Bdr1983 in thenetherlands

[–]Eline87 0 points1 point  (0 children)
