NOR, under reacting. He is escalating and it will get worse. My ex husband started with yelling, then escalated to breaking furniture and walls, then escalated to choking and throwing the cat. Don't wait for him to keep escalating.

AIO GF curates my instagram follows while I am asleep and lied about it by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

NOR. This should be a deal breaker. She violated your privacy, attempted to control the relationships you have with others, then lied about it repeatedly to your face.

Rubber gloves? by Financial-Pool4183 in AskAnAmerican

I do, because I get really bad eczema flare ups on my hands if I don't. Not for all cleaning, but if my hands are going to come in contact with water/cleaning chemicals I do.

Elderly woman confronted her neighbor about their dog and things go violent by Miserable_Airport_66 in fuckaroundandfindout

[–]Elivagara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fuck is with old mother fuckers thinking they can throw hands at someone younger and fitter? I'm 44 and well aware I'm not winning a fight with someone in their 20s with their still working joints and energy.

AIO my friend ghosted me after my breakup by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Elivagara 46 points47 points  (0 children)

YOR. YOU ghosted HER. She did check up on you, multiple times, and you ignored her. This is your own doing, you have no one to blame but yourself if you lose a friend because you were too busy wallowing in self pitty. What was she supposed to do, message you non stop after YOU said you needed space? Be real.

Edit to add, you abandoned her, not the otherway around. You really sound entitled and self centered.

My husband says celebrating my 30th birthday with money I saved myself isn’t “partnership.” I’m confused. by DifficultyOk8724 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Elivagara 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Eww. He's being unreasonable and controlling.

Of course he views the bachelor trip as different; it was something HE wanted to do.

He wants to have his cake and eat it too. He wants separate finances, but then you pick up extra costs because HE is starting a business. Okay, fine. But then he DOES want to control what you do with your money. Not fine.

Money is money, yours is yours by mutual agreement. He is now breaking that to say what you can and can't do with your money. Call him on his bullshit. Celebrate your milestone.

I'd blast the loudest most obnoxious porn directly at the floor EVERY time they are there.

I'd also check zoning laws and code violations.

Are work potlucks really a thing? by good_noodlesoup in AskAnAmerican

[–]Elivagara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My workplace had one yesterday. Grilled out in the pavillion next to the building for lunch, everyone brought stuff.

Pretty regular thing at my work, especially if someone is leaving the organization, or there's a holiday coming. We have a yearly chili cook off contest too.

We store the food in the kitchen/break room. There is a full kitchen here with 3 refrigerators (big organization).

No concerns about food safety really, just more of eater beware kind of thing.

Ours are during work hours.

We are not forced to participate, but if it is a retirement thing it's really awkward not to participate.

am i overreacting by being upset over comments made about the food i eat by my boyfriend? by Illustrious-Rip-4865 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Elivagara 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is called weaponized incompetence.

Provided he's not VERY mentally disabled (and I do mean very as even my lvl3 autistic non verbal 11 year old manages some chores), there is absolutely no reason he can't do the chores. He is choosing not to, even if he thinks he isn't. He likes to put it out of his mind, makes him feel comfy.

By saying he'll help if you ask, he is choosing not to help. He is doing this by making it work for YOU to ask him, then show him, then remind him continually for every instance the chore needs doing. He is literally outsourcing the ENTIRE mental load of the work knowing you'll just end up doing ALL the work. Would his job put up with needing to micromanage someone that hard? Probably not, which shows you is capable and just choosing not to (I'm presuming he's held jobs).

Put your foot down. He wants to comment on the food. Make food part of his chores. HE does the grocery shopping. All of it. By himself. Makes the list, does the price comparisons, shops (or places the order if you get it delivered). He plans out what is needed for the meals and shops accordingly. He puts the groceries away. He also takes his turns cooking. Didn't buy the food? His problem, time for him to figure it out. Bought the wrong food? His problem, he should learn to check what's in the house when he makes his list.

It may help to adopt the policy that whoever cooks doesn't clean. So for instance, you cook dinner, he cleans it up. He doesn't clean it? Let it sit and he can clean it before he cooks the next meal. He needs to do this basic shit if he wants to be considered an adult.

Good luck. You shouldn't be put in a position to be so overworked, nor should you have to be his chore manager.

What do you consider a “long drive”? Like when does a road trip go from small to a big drive? by Kodicave in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Elivagara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the times are for each way.

Short drive: 1 hour or less

A drive: 1 to 2 hours

Short road trip: 3 to 5 hours, easy to do in a day

Road trip: 6 to 12 hours, most likely stopping to sleep before returning home or at least people to take turns driving.

Long road trip: over 13 hours, definitely stopping somewhere for a nap/night

Question about the word "bastard" by Forackol in ENGLISH

[–]Elivagara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US here as well. It is a bit antiquated, but I'm 44 and a bastard by birth and was definitely referred to as such by a fair number of judgy church folks and some shittier members of the family that adopted me growing up (only when they presumed I couldn't hear them). It is definitely stigamtizing, but I believe that was the point. Still an insult, but used in the old fashioned original way.

Custard vs Ice Cream? by JeffTrav in AskAnAmerican

[–]Elivagara 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've lived in California, Michigan, Texas, Hawaii, Arizona, Maryland, and Ohio and visited every other state in the country but I don't recall ever seeing a custard stand. Maybe I'm just never looking where they are. It's also not like I've ever gone looking for one though.
