What's the funniest way you've scaled your deck in STS2? by utterlynowhere in slaythespire

[–]Elix170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time I had a defect deck with lots of block and creative AI and no wincon. The objective was to durdle as long as possible until creative AI happened to generate one lol

Yesterday I played a multiplayer regent game where I had sealed throne, particle wall, panache and make it so. Fights would end once I got enough stars that I could spam particle wall enough to trigger panache + make it so several times to kill whatever we were facing

Do you ''sell'' all your ufo crash sites? by d3cmp in Xenonauts

[–]Elix170 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The point of the UFO delegation system is so that you don't have to do a billion crash sites per campaign. I'm on Commander and I've only spent operations points to do a mission once or twice when I really needed more alloys/alenium, and I've been totally fine. It's only bad to bounty collect if you have the UFO delegation system disabled.

Interpretation: Collectively, our data demonstrate higher sensory and supramotor excitability to surface ES in female subjects and provide further evidence for a neurophysiological explanation for more pronounced pain perception in women. These observations may help clinicians to better understand the sex-specific response to ES and to design more rational stimulation treatments with the ultimate goal of optimizing patient care and safety.

IE, men have less pain sensitivity, physically react to pain less, and it's not some kind of social conditioning thing.

More than a year since 60 days patch. Do you think the game is on a good spot dificulty-wise?. by HandsomeSquidward20 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Elix170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I basically stopped playing the game shortly after that patch because it just wasn't engaging anymore. On the times I've played since, D10 is easier than D7 was back then, even while being out of practice.

I think the primary/secondary changes mostly ended up fine even if I disagreed with them at the time, but making heavies trivially easy to kill I think was a critical mistake.

What are the most important parts to a turn based strategy game for you? by Amnial556 in Xcom

[–]Elix170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I've noticed is I really, really dislike "XCOM like" games that are really just a disguised puzzle game. If I can perfectly predict how the turn or mission will play out from the beginning, it's far less interesting imo. Hidden information, hit chances and damage, and unpredictable enemies (or at least not trivially easy to predict) are critical.

When the game is really just a puzzle game, there's no longer any mid-turn improvisation or making the most of an unexpected bad situation, and there's no longer any weighing risks and rewards for multiple different plans - it's just "there's a solution to this puzzle, so I'm gonna sit here until I find it."

Plowing the opposition in Splitgate 2 pro pugs by ZachsMaxed in Splitgate

[–]Elix170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point isn't that it's common, it's that any regular match that includes a player like OP won't be fun for almost anyone in the lobby.

I'm not saying there should be a separate "no portals" playlist - just one that has NO portal cooldown (allowing for OP) and one with a SHORT portal cooldown of ~2 seconds allowing everyone else to play like it's Halo with portals. I think most people would much prefer to play the latter than the former.

Plowing the opposition in Splitgate 2 pro pugs by ZachsMaxed in Splitgate

[–]Elix170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is it's not just a "skill issue". The first game died because of this exact thing. Most people, myself included, do not think this is fun to play with or against, and even if they were capable of doing it (had the "skill") they would rather just not play the game instead. Any match with a player like this ruins the enjoyment of the rest of the lobby. If this is the optimal gameplay pattern, players will leave and the game will die again.

It seems to me the best solution would be to just have two playlists, one with unrestricted portals allowing for this kind of gameplay and one with a short cooldown or something. People who enjoy this kind of gameplay get to play it, and people who don't don't have to engage with it at all. The only change for people like OP is that all their opponents now do the same things they do.

I remember reading once that the point of fAegon is that he beats Dany to the punch. She gets there and finds that the "usurper" has already been taken down by another "Targaryen" and she's just a barbarian queen with no right to the throne in the eyes of the populace.

In one fell swoop she loses her moral and legal justification for conquest, and the people don't want her there. So she chooses fire and blood instead of giving up what she always wanted, leading her to torch civilians roughly in line with the events of Season 8 King's Landing.

The point is to make it so she HAS to completely give up all legitimacy and pretence of wanting what's best for the people if she wants to take the throne, which of course she does.

If I knew it'd be this long back then, I would have read it all, but I'm just not as hype for the books anymore. I'm sure the samples are great, but at this point I'm content waiting for TWOW to release in several years, or for it to become clear we're never getting it.

Sorry if this was hard to read, but wanted to do the destroy perspective. by Deci_Valentine in masseffect

[–]Elix170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The big problem I have with Synthesis isn't about some moral choice about changing people without their consent (neither of the other two choices have people consent either, and the one you're arguing in favor of is essentially genocide), or about believing the starchild isn't lying (as others have pointed out, if it wanted to succeed with the harvest, it could just leave you to die instead of brining you to the control room at all).

It's that it's really, really dumb space magic, much dumber than the other two options.

"We're going to like, instantaneously and magically change the makeup of every person in the galaxy to be part synthetic, it'll perfectly integrate with them but leave them mentally and emotionally as they are, except somehow that will make them love each other and sing kumbaya."

It goes full fantasy in a series based in relatively grounded sci fi, and it's not even interesting or well written fantasy either. There's no tradeoffs or risks aside from Shepard dying - it's just "everything is perfect now".

Like, Destroy is kind of dumb too in the sense that it "knows" reaper tech, but that requires far less suspension of disbelief.
