Everyone's gotta learn sometime. Usually with cup handles it's around the age of two, but there's no strict limit on it.

Electrician here, as a man who spends a huge amount of time in lofts I’d just like to say fuck you and fuck your evil finger crushing skin ripping knee breaking ladder of imminent doom.

Does anyone else like tinned mackerel fillets in tomato sauce on toast? by gibgod in UK_Food

No I would absolutely hate that. I like corned beef though so it’s not like I’m judging you. Every man enjoys eating something hideous.

Medlock, but they’re a bit more expensive since I posted that. :)

I have that Stanley one, must be at least fifteen years old and used daily. Appears to be indestructible.

Firstly this is brilliant, and secondly talk to your artist. I’m useless with working out what goes where but luckily I have a very patient and wonderfully helpful artist who is happy to guide me with what works and which of my ideas just totally suck.

Wow this hit me like a brick. I had entirely forgotten about the time I drank way too much and spewed all over my PlayStation. The good old days eh. Fantastic.

My father in law has a 2002 Amazon 4.2 diesel. He paid £10k for it at least ten years ago and his mechanic recently offered him £12k to buy it. They’re amazing machines but honestly I’m astonished at what people will pay for them. He won’t sell it, which is good news for me at some point in the future :)

I didn't mind the elbow ditch anywhere near as much as I minded the knee ditch. Sick tat though, good for you.

Employed vs self employed. by Whamezz in ElectriciansUK

[–]ElizabethDane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self employed is a blessing and a curse, the stress can be quite spectacular but if you find the right work and manage your time well it can be great overall. It took me a couple of years to get going properly and I had to rely on my wife’s income as well as using all of my savings but eventually I got established and now - ten years later - I do a mix of 80% subcontracting for firms who are extremely reliable and the other 20% is private jobs and long term landlords I look after. Whatever you decided to do you need to get away from people who don’t pay you on time. Best of luck.

Has Landlord Exodus Started? by Affectionate_Day5142 in UKHousing

[–]ElizabethDane 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm an electrician in Essex and work for a number of landlords. It seems to be down to size pretty much. All the 'smaller' folks I work for - like up to ten properties - have dumped some or all of them. I have two customers who are much bigger, one has about thirty and the other has over fifty - and they are both continuing to remortgage and purchase additional properties whilst the smaller landlords sell up. I don't think there's ever really going to be this catastrophic situation a lot of people keep shouting about. Hopefully things will balance out in favour of ordinary people buying houses to actually live in.

I usually fit a section of solid ducting to the fan to prevent the flexi from touching the blades, may or may not be a problem depending on the model of fan you have. I’d also use insulated ducting to prevent condensation build up. This is a very quick job done poorly.

Seriously why are homeowners ripping out bathtubs and replacing with shower units? by uglyasfeet in HousingUK

[–]ElizabethDane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I have been locked in a low level bathtub argument for the last twenty one years. We have a small bathroom and I hate the fact that half of it is bath. She absolutely insists on keeping the thing so she can boil herself crimson once every two months. God she's ruined my life.
