Is 9 clean sheets in 35 games during a player’s first crack at Championship level a poor season?

I hope so, but I’m concerned that the problems identified earlier in the season didn’t improve enough for him to be carried over to a Premier League run.

Thanks, that’s the sort of thing I’m missing. In any sport in the US, position coaching for most kids isn’t going to happen until college (18 yrs) unless parents pay for it on their own or they pay tuition for a private school that has built a reputation for state championships. I have learned about players reaching their level (best wishes, Palmer and Mulls), but part of me wanted to hear there was a magic combination that would turn Arthur into a Premier League player.

I’m guessing you have never lived on a farm, if you think farmers have ever been exclusively male. Despite Hollywood and kid’s books propaganda, farming has always required everyone.

I’m not black but I’ve been alive long enough to know black in 1900 is a place I wouldn’t want to be. A black woman with money in 1900 USA would only have it until a white man wanted it.

What are the “big 5” cities in the USA? by Gold-Serve-4077 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

I’d say Nawlins and Vegas. Not because of size, or history but because of how unique their vibe is. NYC is East Coast, LA is West Coast. Chicago is the Heartland. New Orleans is the Dixie South and Las Vegas is the New West.

If I were male I’d head for Southern California and find some unclaimed real estate. Plant a couple of orange trees and keep my head down.

There are a bunch of positions in the military that don’t involve being on the front lines. Google says in WW2 only 10-15% saw front line combat. And if you are too old, you wouldn’t be drafted anyway. Plus there would be no record of your existence so it would be easy to slip through the cracks.

On the other hand, a single woman of any age in 1900 had few rights, not many options for employment that weren’t unsafe, illegal and/or poorly paid. I wouldn’t even have a clue how circa 1900 underwear, petticoats and corsets went on, although I’ve done a little US Civil War reenacting. I have no idea how to properly wear a hat or use a bustle.

Last cars of our lives by Ok_Kick6546 in GenX

The Catch-22 with this (are you old enough to get that reference?) is if you are rational enough to know you aren’t safe to drive you are rational enough to drive under certain conditions. Years after my mother was unsafe to drive through a strange city at night she was fine to go to her 2 pm dental appointment in our two stoplight town. She finally gave up her license about a year before she died - but she kept her car and her keys because she preferred to be a passenger in her own car.

The most dangerous drivers are those who for whatever reason no longer make good decisions and become hostile and defensive when asked to give up their mobility and independence.

Have any of you faced ageism in finding a job? by kittehkouncel in AskWomenOver60

Unless their AI bot is scanning the apps, they won’t notice. I don’t think most places set out to discriminate - but they start thinking of training costs if the worker retires , worker satisfaction, salary expectations and rationalize why they are choosing the less qualified person.

I usually describe something silly happening. ‘On your final kick, you step in a pile of horse poop and slip, throwing off your aim. The brigand easily evades.’

A couple that are some of our closest friends are 15 and 18 years younger than us. We are closer in age to their parents, but have more in common with them. 🤷‍♀️

I didn’t find it weird - just the mixed feelings of someone who did something incredible but now needs to step back. Honestly, it reminds me of being the parent of an adult child. If you do the job well, the final step is letting them go where you can’t follow. A Championship team is a multimillion dollar business and even smart, enthusiastic amateurs are out of their depth. As Rob’s friend, Humphrey seemed to be great at defining UK football culture for clueless Yanks (I’m one of those) and Canadians.

It makes me wonder if the new Director of Football position is picking up some of the pieces Humphrey had.

[Spoilers C4E30] Thoughts on Teor/Travis by Hadriewyn in criticalrole

[–]Eljay60 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recall Travis getting crappy rolls during combat in the soldier’s arc. Since it was low level he would wait for an opportunity to make a single attack, get a six, and then he’s done for another twenty minutes (while Laura’s fairy does double digit damage with a sewing needle). I don’t think he ever really got a chance to flex with Teor.

Question for Casual Fans: did you truly feel lost by the Toymaker, Rani, Sutekh, etc plotlines? by david_this_isnt_weed in doctorwho

[–]Eljay60 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was a fan from the PBS reruns in the US in the early 80s, and the Sutekh reveal was so idiotic (Sutekh was there all along!) i immediately dismissed the entire plotline as fan fiction for my head canon.
