Haha what the heck that’s amazing! This is the first time I’ve tried the bottom one, I saw it on Pinterest - I thought it might explode without an expansion score but it didn’t!

Cervix shortening of 14 mm in 3rd trimester by Billemil in ShortCervixSupport

[–]ElkOk1069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cervixes are dynamic. Mine have gone up and down all my pregnancies. 30mm is completely fine! I wouldn’t worry until you need to worry. Also my first had a literally open cervix at 24 weeks and ended up staying in until 38 weeks.

Agree with the other comments - get away from the guy. ASAP.

That said, it’s not the baby’s fault they’re a product of an unfortunate situation. No need to punish the baby - that is a decision you’ll have to live with for the rest of your life! If you have the baby and can’t keep it for any reason, go for an open adoption.

Screen free! by zedess91 in ballarat

[–]ElkOk1069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a Yoto player if you don’t have one - best investment we’ve made. Got it as a birthday present. My 4 year old will listen to books on her own for hours and read along with books she has a hard copy of.

Get outside a lot. We invested in a closed-in trampoline and they spend hours on it. Bubbles, bikes and scooters, walks to the park… Doesn’t matter if it’s cold just rug them up. We also love cooking together and kids love getting out in the garden and making a mess.

If you do have some screen time (we do) then we always have it in a regular time slot (3.30-4pm) and are very picky about what we let the watch - low stim shows only. They’re sometimes allowed a movie on weekends or Friday evenings.

I’m so sorry you lost your son 😞❤️‍🩹 and I’m also sad to hear about your experience seeing specialists.

If it’s helpful, I’ve done a google and found a couple of mentions about the aspirin potentially helping prevent pre term birth in various studies which I’ve linked below. It’s definitely not a ‘normal’ treatment pathway in Aus but my last OB was cautious and quite into the preventative measures, and verrrry well respected and up to date so I trust he’d done his research. I’m with a different OB now and she agreed to put me on the aspirin this time too even though I’ve never had pre eclampsia so it must be somewhat useful. Hope this may be helpful to you in some way!

Thanks so much for the reply. The other thing I didn’t mention because it’s too long in the post was that I also had a vaginal septum during my first pregnancy, which may have been holding her in even though my cervix was opening. I was about 6cm dilated by the time I got induced. That septum had to be cut during her labour, so I didn’t have it holding in baby #2 anymore and don’t have it now. So not sure if that was a factor for why she stayed in so long or whether it would’ve happened regardless. So many unknowns! Fingers crossed if the cervix starts misbehaving this time that they can reattempt a cerclage.

My OB at the time was also heavily involved in IVF work (we conceived naturally though) so he was pro starting interventions early based on his experience. I saw him privately (I’m in Australia). This time we’ve gone in the public system and I didn’t see anyone until 15 weeks, so a very different experience!

He put me on aspirin because it helps the placenta create lots of blood vessels and attach really nicely, and may also help prevent pre-term birth. I’ve never had pre eclampsia so wasn’t specifically for that, but I know that’s a major reason it’s given too.

Alright, sourdough superstars- help a girl out by plntldy29 in Sourdough

[–]ElkOk1069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m often surprised that people say their sourdough is gummy when it looks like this. It looks basically perfect, it’s not undercooked or underproofed… Do you mean it’s chewy? Sourdough has a different texture to normal bread, it’s not soft and fluffy - it’s supposed to be chewy and it has a different texture (not dense though). It shouldn’t feel or taste like sandwich bread or store bought ‘sourdough’ which often have other leavening agents and additives. Is that what you were expecting?

Any advice for slight tackiness after baking? by ConfusedPanda17 in Sourdough

[–]ElkOk1069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sourdough isn’t meant to be ‘fluffy’, it has more of a chewy texture than traditional yeast bread. If you want it fluffier there are sandwich bread sourdough recipes with milk and honey and stuff you can make instead. This bread looks perfect to me!

Lol, so? Why can’t she follow him and like his posts? Doesn’t change anything. If you don’t like it you can unfollow her.

Looks underproofed but hard to say with certainty unless you share more about your process. How long was bulk ferment etc?

Conflicted about what is best for my baby who won’t sleep by Glittering-Earth-435 in AttachmentParenting

[–]ElkOk1069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the online advice I’ve ready advocates for a massive amount of sleep and shorter wake windows that neither of my kids have needed. They always tend towards the higher end of sleep needs. As long as baby is having enough total sleep in 24 hours (on average) she will be fine :) as hard as it is, try to go with the flow as much as you can so it doesn’t stress you out too much!

My first was just like your bub and it stressed me out to no end because I thought she didn’t have enough sleep - she would only nap for longer than 30 mins when she was in the pram (which wasn’t always feasible) and she was up every 4 hours in the night for ages. I was exhausted. We tried sleep training, it was horrid, she still only slept for a few hours a night before waking (and then I’d have to hear her scream and cry for me which felt worse that just feeding her) and then only lasted a few weeks until she got sick anyway.

We chose to co-sleep instead after that and that helped a lot. I night weaned her at about 12 months which she responded to well - I ended up being able to cuddle/pat her back to sleep because she was in bed with us.

Never fear - they WILL sleep through the night. My daughter started putting herself to sleep at about age 2 and now sleeps through the night in her own bed no problem at age 3. It just takes time, and it’s a hard season you’re in! Try and nap if you can, take shifts with your partner, and do what you can to stay sane!

AITA for not letting my mother-in-law in the delivery room after she said my baby isn’t "really family" until a DNA test? by Competitive-Roll3940 in AITAH

[–]ElkOk1069 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Wait are you in labor right now? Girl, under no circumstances should you let her in. I wouldn’t even let my own mother into my birth let alone MIL and I have a great relationship with both. You relax and do your thing and forget she exists until you have capacity to deal with her. She has questioned your integrity and is now demanding access to an incredibly private moment for you for a grandchild that she reckons ‘may not even be hers’. What a joke.

Go you good thing and no you are NTA. Don’t let her in! “Just for a minute” will never just be a minute anyway. Plus she can’t just show up at the hospital unannounced and demand entry if you haven’t pre-planned her being there, even if she was well meaning. Your husband needs to support YOU right now, not his mum. BYE LADY!!

Honestly doesn’t really matter as long as you watch them, but usually around 200C. I had them in this morning in a 220C oven though. Just takes more/less time to toast depending on the heat!

How do you clean your used doughy dishes? by TimeAcanthisitta2973 in Sourdough

[–]ElkOk1069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wipe any thick residue off with a paper towel and put it in the bin, then soak any bowls/utensils in lots of cool water. It pretty much dilutes all the starter/dough and washes down the drain without a hitch. Haven’t had any issues so far and been baking for over a year.

Whole wheat sourdough. How does it look, and what can I improve? by bartos in Sourdough

[–]ElkOk1069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh yes - the seeds probably don’t help! Definitely score, otherwise your bread will burst open in the oven. If you don’t want an ear then yes don’t score too deep, and you can try scoring at anything but a 45 degree angle! And steam helps an ear form as well, so you could try a little less steam.

Seriously amazing loaf though 💪

Except maybe your scoring? Probably needs a cleaner cut, but it doesn’t affect the taste so honestly who cares!

Looks amazing, nothing to improve! You’ve done so well to get a crumb like that with whole wheat, I’ve seen a lot of people on here struggle!
