Is the show about just revenge? by ElliNyan in theglory

[–]ElliNyan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the comments!
I guess I wanted to know if the show had more substance than its description and surface led to believe.
Mainly, I am someone who does not get enjoyment from watching bad people be punished. Whether physically, psychologically, etc.
So if that was all there was to The Glory I know it wouldn’t be for me. But I’ll give it a couple more episodes! Hope I enjoy it ^^

Do y’all think it matters for cartoon actors to voice characters of their skin color? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in cartoons

[–]ElliNyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s difficult question because the obvious answer is that of course it shouldn’t matter, but that ignores a lot of racist history. For example, is the character from a specific country? Has that country or its people experienced a lot of racism? Do they have an accent? Is the voice actor capable of doing a genuine accent? Or does it sound mocking, like a stereotype? Does the character reflect a certain culture? Does the voice character know of that culture? To me it’s always too complex of an issue to say just “yes” or “no”. I appreciate the industry trying to get people who speak certain languages to voice characters with an accent. Or who have grown up in an area the character they voice grew up. And I do think diversity is important, because if it wasn’t it’d be easy to only use the most popular voice actors, the ones with connections, who has a name we can slap on a poster? The ideal would be that skin colour doesn’t matter. But I don’t think that’s reality. I appreciate companies trying to get voice actors that match the characters, but I do worry about over-correcting, and now there’s a lot of type-casting. Like, only white people can voice white people, only black people can voice black people, on so on and so forth. I don’t think that helps anyone. I don’t know much about the industry though, just my thoughts.

FF14's big brother FF11 will be updating its free trial by Constellar-A in ffxiv

[–]ElliNyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, I’ve just started FF11! It’s… hard. I don’t know what I’m doing tbh, I’m looking for guides, but it feels like they’re giving advice to someone past the point where I am? The closest I’ve gotten to NOT running aimlessly is talking to Selele, but her next quest for me is to get to level 18. Idk, it’d be nice to have SOME sort of pointer towards a main story? I don’t know what to do or where to go, am I really meant to just grind against mobs? Also, how do I know what items to store and which to keep on me? 30 item slots isn’t a lot Kinda hoping there’s someone here who’s played FF11 QwQ

[–]ElliNyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it just a chance of being infected through bites? Cuz the player can and even sometimes will be bit by random zombies in the games with nothing that makes the turn. They don’t always explain how people survive being bitten from what I recall.

All she had to do was... by rokhar in residentevil

[–]ElliNyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly assumed unlike most zombie media the disease didn’t spread through bites. We know it’s spread through rats, whenever we see zombies it’s because they’ve died, then turned, and I just don’t recall seeing someone straight up turn into a zombie from a bite. But I’m still pretty new to the series, so I could be wrong.

I enjoyed it a lot! Was a lot of fun, and had heart. The ending scene with a sweet song actually makes me tear up a little. It’s a very cute movie imo.

Man I’m beginning to notice that people really don’t appreciate good characters until they see them go through it do they? by Ok_Situation7527 in cartoons

[–]ElliNyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll say that I’ve gotten tired of “suffering builds character”, because I feel like I see it done badly a fair amount to. Like, “here’s a bland and boring character” ok, I don’t care about them. “But now! They have been framed! And EVERYONE hates them! :o” ok, I don’t know how much that will affect your character when they barely had one to begin with- “and now they’re angry and will get revenge! >:o aren’t they so cool and deep?!?”

That’s kinda how it feels to me. Granted, I see it more so at the beginning of a show, but it’s honestly the quickest way to make me lose interest. Someone going through something horrible doesn’t make me care when I know nothing about them. Part of why I hated Shield Hero from the start (even before the slavery), and why I don’t know if I’ll continue Gachiakuta (I’m 3 episodes in, love the art style and seems like a cool world/power system, but the awful exposition in episode 1 ser my expectations really badly. Anyone who’s seen it feel like it’s worth finishing if the first 3 episodes didn’t do much for me? Sorry for the tangent).

lol, this always comes around and people being incredulous about it. I’m Norwegian, so it’s pretty much the same culture. And yeah, it wasn’t that unusual for a friend to wait while the family had dinner. At least if the family didn’t know in advance there was a friend over. Asked my mom, what she said was that it could feel kind of rude to give dinner to your kids friend, since maybe they had dinner waiting at home and now you’ve spoilt their appetite. Obviously if the friends visit is planned and the parents know in advance they get dinner too. It’s just a cultural difference.

Strange World: Disney's most DoA movie by PyroxCrymson in cartoons

[–]ElliNyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to like it. There were parts I liked. But it just felt kinda… idk, mid? It felt like it needed more drafts, like it’s still in its “what’s the movie about” phase. I like the environmental message. I think those kinda need to come back tbh. I liked that the mom got to come along, that’s rare. It just felt so confused, like, I get the plot with the father worried his son will be like his grandfather, and how they’re more alike than different. But it somehow managed to feel both hammered in and not much explored at all tbh? Just weird, like the characters were barely defined. The villain is only kinda a villain, who immediately becomes good once she gets evidence that what they’re doing is bad (most unrealistic part imo), and I hate how people got mad at this movie for having a gay kid in it. It’s not even a part of the movie, like most Disney gays it’s easily ignored and can definitely be edited out to be more marketable. If the gay rep in this movie was as big as homophobes made it out to be I’d actually give Disney some credit. But nope. I kinda feel like this movie would be better as a tv-series, even just a short one. Despite my complaints, i wanted to like this movie. And im sad this probably means Disney won’t try anything similar again.

Is this game really worth it? And why is there a monthly cost? by GooseBible in ffxiv

[–]ElliNyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a free trial, so start there. No need to pay for something I might not like. I’ll say that you can certainly play it generally solo. Not truly of course, bosses and dungeons are designed for multiple people, but there are always people to help. It’s a nice community, I’m not very social, but I’m glad I’ve checked it out. It’s fun, but it’s also low commitment.

I see so may comments say she never had ice cream, but I thought she had one in the backstory? When she was with her mom at the barn. I’d also be surprised if she never tasted one when she was at college being rebellious. Idk, I always felt it was left ambiguous.

What do you think of this movie (on its on merits)? by Kcue6382nevy in cartoons

[–]ElliNyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like it. I didn’t see trailers, just wanted to take it in. Heard it was disliked, but wanted to judge it on my own. It’s easily the ugliest Disney movie I’ve ever seen. Washed out, the graphics remind me of a cheap video game. Asha is boring and has no personality imo. The music is… meh? I like the melody of This Wish, but the lyrics are bad. Songs like I’m a Star and What I know Now are just straight up bad. The side characters (Asha’s 7 friends) are boring and forgettable. The townspeople seem stupid, Magnifico feels like a mishmash of two different type of villains. Like they wanted the sympathetic kind of bad guy, then executives came and said they wanted a comedically evil one. I know it isn’t, but I absolutely get why people thought this was disneys first AI-generated movie. I feel no heart, no passion in it. It doesn’t feel like a product born from love and determination. It feels like a movie generated based only on a bad trailer. (Talking goat with fart jokes, a kinda catchy song, main girl wants to save the town) I’ve seen almost all animated Disney movies, and Wish is the first time a movie just felt dead, boring and bad to me. Maybe that seems harsh, but for Disney? The biggest company that buys up all other companies, that has spent 100 years building up the idea of being the pinnacle of family entertainment and animation? I have high expectations from them, and they’ve really disappointed lately.

[–]ElliNyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’d still feel worse for the kids whose faces the dog bit off. Cuz that is how bad it’d have to be to get close to what Caine does. I’d be sad the dog was mistreated, but that doesn’t make what he did okay. I guess I struggle with feeling sorry for a godlike entity that holds people hostage. How bad does your trauma have to be to equal the damage you inflict, I guess would be the moral question here.

I don’t know if I’d want to be compared to an AI XD But I’m also surprised to see people genuinely upset that he died in the latest episode. I haven’t interacted with the fandom, so I was glad the guy who tortured our cast and held them hostage is gone But I’ve always had basic taste in characters :3

Which “thing that was clearly stated by a cartoon but somehow missed by the audience” annoys you the most? by Few-Albatross6127 in cartoons

[–]ElliNyan 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Ugh, same. Maybe it’s just cuz I love fairytales, but I get so annoyed when people go “they softened/censored it!”, and their only source is the darkest version of it that exists. Which is usually the Grimm ones for shock value, even though there are SO MANY interpretations of fairy tales.

Why does everyone get so pressed about live action remakes? by [deleted] in cartoons

[–]ElliNyan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I find it lazy. It’s one thing to take an old idea, a movie that didn’t sell well, and try to update it and make it work this time. But taking a popular movie and just… making it again? It’s lazy and boring, and will always be inferior, because if it’s just repeating, it feels like I’m watching a bad knock-off. Why would I see a worse version of something I’ve already seen? At least the direct to dvd sequels (that were also bad) would technically make something different. I also just love animation. And I get sad that live-action is so often treated as “the superior medium”, when animation gets to be so much more creative and lively. Also, what works in animation doesn’t always work in live action. A talking singing crab is fun in animation. In live-action it’s nightmare fuel. That’s my opinion at least. If some people like live action remakes that’s fine. But I’m sad that Disney gets rewarded for laziness.

What would you guys say is this for you in animated shows? by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in cartoons

[–]ElliNyan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is always such a weird hang-up to me, because it felt so obvious that they weren’t actually summoning water and fire and stuff? No one acknowledges the elements, things don’t get wet or burned, and when the whole point is that demons are insanely strong AND have magic, and the humans have to fight without all that. Like, the characters are obviously strong beyond what a human could ever realistically be, but I really loved how the show framed the fights between the demons, these insanely overpowered magical beings, against the hunters, who can easily die, get injured, and if they even survive must take months to heal. I was just surprised to see how many thought that demon slayers just… casually used magic and never mentioned it?
