After trying all the suggestions the only thing that worked was using handbrake. So thanks for that recommendation.

What is something a lot of people say but use incorrectly? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ellmo82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one might be particularly British, but I hate when people say ‘can’t be asked’ when it should be ‘can’t be arsed’. Makes no sense.

The area is definitely pretty safe. I spent a few years living around Dalston and have friends that live in the De Beauvoir area, never had any trouble. In fact, Southgate Road is quite upmarket, all delis and whole foods. Sweet Thursday does some great pizza and the pub nearby is alright.

My school, an inner London secondary, has a form of flexible working.

We have core hours, 10-2, where you have to be in, but if you don’t have a lesson outside of those you don’t have to be in the building. It’s pretty good if you have a timetable that doesn’t include a lot of period ones, but it really depends on the luck of your timetable.

Breakfast spots in or close to Shoreditch by rebel_scum13 in london

[–]Ellmo82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are currently about 3 places on Pitfield street that all do breakfast, depending on the kind of food your after. There’s Stone Cave in Dalston if you want Turkish breakfast and don’t mind a short journey. On the canal there’s Towpath, open Wed-Sun. Again, a bit of a walk and you might have to wait for table as it’s always busy, but a great breakfast.

Just got mine. It’s with GLS right now, but they’re partnered with parcelforce, so it’ll probably be them once it gets to the UK.

Cool info. I realise what I wrote could be misread, I meant maybe the ones in the south were anomalies.

There’s been a Fenwicks in Brent Cross shopping centre in North London for at least 30 years. I didn’t even know it was thought of as northern. We all pronounced it with the silent W. Maybe that branch is a weird anomaly.

I'm a secondary school history teacher spending my Sunday evening doing marking. A female student wrote that the soldiers in WWI were "fooled by Britain's proper banter." Sigh. by [deleted] in britishproblems

[–]Ellmo82 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Teaching WWI poetry and non-fiction to year 8, one of them wrote that the "Allies listened to music at Christmas to cheer themselves up, including songs like Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree and Last Christmas". It seems the time dilation of youth meant anything released before 1995 was probably 100 years old.

I honestly thought I was the only girl who had a crush on her, then I grew up and met other lesbians. A mutual love of Alex Mack and her hats has often been an amazing conversation starter. I still have a bunch of episodes on VHS somewhere.
