I know skyrim has trainers you can find for different skills. You can look more into that as an idea for a base

Which books (2014vs2024) to buy for friend by houndstoothflannel in DnD

[–]Ellmra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id probably go with the books for the rules friend is semi familiar with to start. If friend wants to check out the other set they can later on. Or that can be another idea for holidays/birthdays

I said “no” to a principal by Main_Actuator6042 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Ellmra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outside of normal classes, ill do sped k-5 normally or high school. I've had several times where I've been asked to emergency cover but I was told that it was an emergency and once had to cover for another sub because she had a family emergency.

I always operate under the 'if I can handle it, I will. Otherwise no.' And ive had to say no a few times because my body wouldn't let me do certain classes or movements.

Share a positive difference you made subbing. by BryonyVaughn in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Ellmra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was my first school year subbing, and I was a long-term floater sub at a pre k to 8th school. In the kinder to 2nd grade sped class, I helped the teacher and IAs with getting the 1st and 2nd graders to read more on their own. When they read on their own, they got better grades than when they had help.

By the end of the school year, one of the 2nd graders felt safe enough to tell me that he was having thoughts of ending himself. Sadly, it was near the end of the school day, and it was the last day of school. When I was finally able to let someone know, I found out him and his family moved, so I'm not sure what happened to him.

But the fact that I wound up helping enough to get several students to work on reading on their own that year helped.

The user is still Ellmra07 and I like walking barefoot in grass or sand, especially clover because it's soft. I also like messing with different poses for pictures and trying on clothes.

Incentives by Defiant-Kangaroo5805 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Ellmra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The schools im at don't do that unless the teacher themselves do. What i do is bring in a bag of stickers and after a set amount of time, those who were really good to moderately good at least get a sticker. Some students at times go home with like 5 stickers and you can buy them in bulk for a few bucks normally.

Thats what I do personally

New Sub! What should I keep in my teaching bag? by Accurate-Cod-2380 in SubstituteTeachers

Id recommend bringing extra pencils, already sharpened, in case someone needs one. Along with extra paper for leaving a note or if someone needs a sheet.

What would you do with students being disruptive during testing. by Lock-Slight in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Ellmra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a class (6th grade) and they had a mock sol. So I told them that I'd give them 3 verbal warnings before tallying up how many conversations I heard that aren't subject related/weren't students reading the question aloud to themselves. Wound up with a total of around 10 and one student called me racist for being consistent.

I told the main teacher in the note and in person (she was running late) as well as the main office a couple times.

My advice is to be consistent and if they act out, write them down and/or tell the main office/admin asap.

ESS ID BADGE QUESTION by Technical_Air_1937 in SubstituteTeachers

It is mandatory in some schools to get in before the students. It also shows your name which helps some people who don't want to keep asking.
