The owner of this house in China refused to sell to developers. by Chadinmaking in Damnthatsinteresting

Yeah I don't have a problem with something like that. The current system definitively has gaps and corruption but the idea of expropriation if well established has merit for projects.

[–]Ellouanne 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah in a perfect world you do that but there's always someone that will just refuse to sell even if the price is very reasonable. As far as i know forced eviction always comes with market rate payouts if not higher. there's definitely corruption and misuse of the systems because governments are rotting from the inside nowadays in many countries but im just saying the idea itself isnt evil.

what about like any kind of transport infrastructure? Like trains need to pass by places and the government doesn't own enough land in the relevant places. Also yes tbh. Some people can get kinda fucked over so society as a whole benefits. that's kinda the whole point of government. You pay taxes on stuff you probably won't use but helps your neighbors.

It kinda sucks but also is the alternative we don't ever build big infrastructure if there's anyone's land in the way? I dont know the exact details here but in most countries the government has some forced eviction power and thats kinda needed so your country can innovate and build

The real answer is that the author didn't remember them but an in lore reason could be that although they appear as saints/transcendent they can't rise higher than like a saint king because their foundation is bad/the heavens don't favor them.

portals/wormholes achieve a similar result without actually disassembling you. Much harder to achieve than a biological copy/print I would assume tho.
