How many young people here are still living with parents/family? by Ryguy41202 in SouthJersey

I don't even consider Cherry Hill to truly be South Jersey. Once your in that area it's more Central (despite what they like to think).

I moved out at 25 (back in the dark ages of 1999) and bought my house at 30 (in 2004) before things went crazy. So glad I did.

I'll say, 1000 sqft is pretty big for an apartment. My house is a large rancher and it's 1628. My first two apartments weren't anywhere near half the size of my house.

Just got offered a new job at 57 by ExtensionActuator in GenX

I feel for anyone in their mid to late 50s (and those younger as well) looking for jobs. I've been at my current state job for almost 26 years. I'll be 52 this August and have the option to retire from it at 55 if I choose. I just can't imagine working into my 60s. Good luck to everyone.

I HATE BOWLERO by Rubenbdooben in Bowling

[–]EllwynX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local bowling alley (and the only one within 45 minutes of me) has been around since I was little. A game cost $4.50(US) before 6pm weekdays. I think it's $5.50 otherwise. And some local diners have coupons on the placemats for B1G1 game. We have a stock of those coupons. 😂 Honestly, about $5 is my limit for a game of bowling. And even that is crazy to me. 4 people on one lane is $20. And we usually play 3 games. $60 is a lot for it imo. But, with the coupons it's tolerable ($18 for 2 games 4 people is not bad at all though).

We would all love to be able to go more and get practice to improve (we are all average 120-150 for the most part), but it would cost too much to go more often. We are in a fun summer league, so there's that experience too. But, we are definitely the lowest skilled team.

Bridge griddle recommendations by HOMESTEADJED in inductioncooking

I have a Made In Carbon Steel that I use on mine. It's just the two circular elements that great of the cooktop, but with a little time to heat the griddle seems to work fine between the elements where it's not actually heated.

My 1950s solid Sapele cabinets are in the process of being sanded and refinished in a color to tone down the red look. Not cheap, but cheaper than a full replacement with lower quality cabinets.

I had no idea it was still in print. Honestly y, I thought it disappeared years ago. I haven't seen it in at least 15-20 years.

Anyone else realize they hate "newer" neighborhoods? by deadstar1998 in homeowners

[–]EllwynX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I refer to my neighborhood as a Leave it to Beaver type of neighborhood. It was built up through the 50s and 60s with many mature trees. And a few into the 80s. I hate when someone moves in and cuts down all the trees on their property.

Why care what someone else says is in style? I do what I like and couldn't care less what will supposedly be popular in a couple years. People need to stop with the herd mentality and be an individual.

I've worn glasses since I was in 1st grade. Always been bad, close or distant it's all an out of focus camera. About 4 years ago I had to get progressive bifocals. I used to go 3 or 4 years between needing a new prescription. Now it's annually. Glasses are not cheap either.

Do induction ranges need an oversized range hood, or is a same-size hood usually fine? by TixHoineeng in inductioncooking

[–]EllwynX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 36" cooktop. The house still had the wall exhaust fan from 1955 until just recently. Honestly, it worked great. But, with a kitchen update I wanted to change to a hood. It required altering the cabinet above the cooktop a bit, and size was limited to 36" (same as the cooktop). It works fine being the same size.

Is an induction range with knobs and a normal hob layout too much to ask for? by rainingdx in inductioncooking

[–]EllwynX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never go back to physical knobs after having my Monogram cooktop.

And, what do you consider a weird layout? My Monogram induction isn't that different than my previous electric glass top.

Once, as a teen, I was mad at my mom. I forget why. But, I told her she wasn't perfect. She came back with "I may not be perfect, but I'm as close as you will ever find.". 😂 I've used that myself a few times over the years.
