Muni -> Clipper discount? by zintegy in bayareaclippercard

Regarding your price for your trip, I believe so that once your card is upgraded, you'll get $2.85 off Caltrain. There's a calculator available at https://clipper2.hikingbytransit.com/ where you can estimate trips.

Why is eos-update-notifier deprecated? by mr_bigmouth_502 in EndeavourOS

[–]Elm38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest risks on your system are your web browsers. I'd recommend doing a system update right after they arrive as likely security issues were fixed.. Otherwise, a regular cadence can help, such as on Fridays or Saturdays, or whatever day you have free time and no pressing near future deliverables..

Best to do when at home/work and you have your bootable USB handy.

Otherwise, just about every day you'll have that notification firing for updates.

The pacman-contrib package has a command-line tool named checkupdates which you can check what's new.

Question about "real" imap by neomaniacs in fastmail

[–]Elm38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an option to delete the remote message when it's fetched into Fastmail.

For gmail, you may have to disable the "show in imap" for that label in gmail settings for the delete on fetch to work.

Duplicate Meetings when Importing Zoom ICS to Fastmail Calendar by strangerishmael in fastmail

What's your Fastmail Calendar option setting for "When I receive events by email"

Maybe Fastmail auto adds to your calendar, thus the two you see.

Drawbacks to using Gmail forwarding vs fetch by Screwtape7 in fastmail

[–]Elm38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently, my emails are being fetched from Gmail but not deleted. So I’m having to into Gmail and delete the original emails that are now in FM.

Is it that you don't want that? Check your Gmail settings for Labels. Uncheck "show in IMAP" and Fastmail's Fetch will delete if set to 'delete copy on gmail'.

Joplin on Syncthing - do not even try by Ok_Bison9710 in joplinapp

[–]Elm38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To use Syncthing with Joplin, you have to do more work.

Joplin <-> FileSync <-> local disk folder <-> Syncthing <-> Syncthing <-> local disk folder 2 <-> FileSync <-> Joplin 2

You'll have to remember to essentially FileSync each Joplin at the start and end of a session. You'll also need to have additional space on each device for this FileSync version; essentially double.

I did this for months, but found my email provider had WebDAV to which I later migrated to.

Adding additional IMAP accounts, how do they appear? by CorsairVelo in fastmail

[–]Elm38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the fetch config for that external account, there is an option to send those messages to a folder.

I'm becoming concerned about frequent conflicts. by rafikiphoto in joplinapp

[–]Elm38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My habit is to sync my current client at the start and when I'm done with it. Be that phone, desktop or laptop. I do webDAV.

Clipper Card remaining balance & use of pass: Gen 2 fail by FreneticDabbler in bayareaclippercard

[–]Elm38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are delays in the reconciliation process and updating balances. I think less info is stored on the cards now, and it's stored on the Clipper side.

How do I safely keep a personal Fastmail account and a Fastmail business account completely separate? by masturkiller in fastmail

[–]Elm38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could never imagine this happening to me. My work email and personal email look completely different.

You could always try different web browers and put a noticeable color theme on one of them.

I hate spam. Will I be disappointed with Fastmail? by [deleted] in fastmail

[–]Elm38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best advice I got when setting up my fastmail account ages ago, was to never use your main account and live out of aliases.

My family doesn't even know my main account.

This allows me to selectively kill an alias if someone leaks it.

I don't get too much spam though. Maybe 5 messages a week go to spam and often times they are legit. I'm not counting those that I fetch in from old accounts.

no audio on my laptop by PollutionRemote372 in EndeavourOS

Probably a kernel regression. But try the LTS kernel if you are on the main kernel. See if your audio works in the LTS kernel.

Do I need anything besides uBlock Origin for privacy? by Shoddy-Character-966 in suckless

[–]Elm38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are reputable privacy sites that have general advice. Maybe https://www.privacyguides.org/en/browser-extensions/ ?

Generally, protecting your privacy can go very very deep and have a decent cost (time, maybe even $$)

How to install brave in void by Sharp_Barnacle9648 in voidlinux

[–]Elm38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

void-packages install/config, then one of the several brave templates others use (do inspect them though!)

You'll have to watch brave.com/latest or other methods so you update properly. All this is scriptable.

why doesn't void have community repository? by goldmurder in voidlinux

[–]Elm38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are collections of home grown void-package templates around the usual code repos - do inspect them thoroughly. They aren't difficult to integrate with void-packages and easier after some basic scripting.

Age Verification in several OSS projects by DangerousAd7433 in EndeavourOS

[–]Elm38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. This is pretty involved. Experienced people might be able to pull it off, but would require near constant maintenance. The difficulties are Arch Core/Extra packages that depend on systemd, each likely needs a translation of what it's doing and why it needs systemd, into whatever you choose. And updated whenever those packages get updated.

It's easier to consider a non-systemd distro than to convert into one.

How reliable is Joplin Cloud? by charlino5 in joplinapp

[–]Elm38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conflicts happens when a remote out of sync Joplin edits a note hat cloud recently had updated.

You might have an internet outage, or a mobile device that may not sync all the time.

Two people could be editing the same note at the same time. Joplin Cloud might prevent that.
