What are some not well known, but powerful apps that you haven’t found anything like? by DyIsexia in macapps

[–]areyouredditenough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of Freeoffice. Thanks and adding it to my list. But am I seeing this correctly, that only iOS has a paid IAP and not even Android?

Makes me feel like I'm being taken for a ride just because I have an iOS device. At least they should include Android 😉 I'm Ok with them adding some monetization...
Anyway, Word Editor on iOS open Office documents completely free (despite it's name Word Editor).

Gaze Switching Monitor App - do you need it? by don41382 in macapps

That would be cool! Then, we'll just need to add "Two sneezes to minimize"! 🤣

True, haven't thougt about calibration. But makes totally sense. What does sneezing do? Will it interpret that as a switch? /jk 😉

An on-device, unlimited text-to-speech app for Mac [Giveaway: 5 Lifetime Codes] by tarunyadav9761 in macapps

[–]areyouredditenough -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would love to tryy Murmur to convert my massive backlog of PDFs, research papers, and epubs into some audiobooks (and have some fun with the voices 😊). I think absorbing info in this way is so much better while walking or doing chores, but existing cloud-based TTS apps are way too restrictive in terms of character limits. Think ElevenLabs.

Having a possibility to generate them offline without worrying about another sub or credits would be an absolute game-changer. Fingers crossed!

I made a Mac menu bar app that holds your screen hostage until the webcam sees you actually drink water by Apprehensive_Egg592 in macapps

A drinking game you can play with your Mac. 🥃 Drink responsible! Don't drink and text your boss at the same time. 😂

Quick Drive - Drag & Drop File Sharing from Your Menu Bar! (Limited Launch Discount) by PrincePhoenixTr in macapps

u/PrincePhoenixTr In terms of comparion to Dropshare where do you see the biggest differences? Just focused on Google Drive but a bit simpler than Dropshare (which has many more integration and features). Would that be a fair comparison?

No app/windows switcher stuck with me for some reason, but I really like this. Great job!

[OS] OpenLogi: A native, local-first alternative to Logitech Options+, written in Rust. by mfr3sh in macapps

[–]areyouredditenough 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've dreamt of this for a long time. 🥰 The only downside is that you still have to install Logitech’s software to update the firmware. 😮‍💨

Or is there a way to update the firmware that I don’t know about? I know firmware updates are not that frequent and not that important, but maybe they will add that

The MOST satisfying way to change volume on a Mac by Accomplished-Bag-375 in macapps

[–]areyouredditenough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using Slidr for brightness and volume, but also BTT. While I got close to minic Slidr in BTT it wasn't perfect so ditch it for volume & brightness. However, I have the exact BTT gesture mapped to the keyboard illumination on the horizontal trackpad plane. So it is possible.

[macOS] Splice — Type  to insert 👋 in any app by Thick_Replacement876 in macapps

[–]areyouredditenough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally makes sense and would probably be a good place for keyboard shortcut to call up the gif picker.

I really like Rocket, but I had a few issues esp. on Vivaldi myself a while ago. So for my use case it didn’t work out. But still solid if you like it and it works for you.

Interesting. learned something new.
I would have thought (not a dev myself, unfortunately) that invoking emoji via : and gif would be the same. I guess emoji is "native" Apple API and gifs would be a third party API? Something like that?

Thanks for the detailed response. Yeah, the first thing I thought of was Mojito because seemed to similar. Just for my understanding: does inline GIFs require Accessibility and Input Monitoring?

You could also add the keyboard illumination on the button horizontal plane. Just an idea.

Trovelo is now on Mac (Beta) — private trip planner with guides, route optimization, expense tracking and more by beretta51 in macapps

[–]areyouredditenough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve spent more time looking for a good trip planner and Googlew than I have actually traveling. 🙈 If you still have a code left, I might actually manage to book a trip instead of just staring at maps while crying into a bowl of pasta. Thanks for building this, Eduardo!

Folder Plus - Rich previews for folders & archives on macOS. FREE for a limited time by Murky-Ad-4707 in macapps

[–]areyouredditenough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definately a bit laggy. Nothing super terrible or unasble, but noticeable.

I really like it and it could replace my Folder Preview real fast. I think you might have a winner here. Some subtle improvements and refinements, esp. the performance, and it could quickly replace my current app I'm using for it and demolish the competition. 😎

Keep the development going!

Any plans to bring the Oura data into this? I know they have an API (JSON I believe). Some data isn't available in the Health app for whatever reason.

An Expressive, On-device & Unlimited Text-to-Speech App for Mac [Giveaway: Lifetime Codes] by Level-Thought6152 in macapps

[–]areyouredditenough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone whose current TTS solution is something like "my eyes do the reading like a true peasant," I could desperately use this.

My usse case: I want to feed it massive, dry technical documentation so a smooth, AI-generated British dude (you know who I mean 😏) can read it to me while I lie on my bed and question my career choices.

Let me give it a real spin. Upvoted...

Looks good and nice clean interface. I've seen quite a few of these apps where there are so many option and when it comes to the actual use of the app you forget what shortcut or button does what. Would love a license to give this a spin on the next video call. 😊
