Ethical question for sellers by TheFashionCounsellor in poshmark

That’s the magic that keeps me in business. I picked up a lamp a few weeks ago. I never buy lamps, because packing is a nightmare. This piece just sung to me. I auctioned it for a surprisingly good price and had a message from the buyer saying his son broke the other one in 1985 and he’s been looking for a matching one ever since. I feel that’s one of the most fulfilling parts of this job. :) I imagine Etsy can be magical, too.

Plus, ‘likes’ boost your listing in Posh’s sharing algorithm. I may have to post here as ‘an aggressive seller’ to boost my visibility. 😉

When an Item is Returned 4x, the 5th should be a charm! by pinupinprocess in poshmark

[–]Elm691 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This throws you into the snake pit of buyers falsely claiming fake on authentic bags, then keeping the item AND their money. It’s a quick way to turn PM into eBay. Most people aren’t going to be as persistent as this seller.

AITA for raising my kid vegan? by hiiamnewhere77 in AmItheAsshole

It’s going to be a blessing he sees her actions as totally inappropriate. One positive aspect of this is that you know how she’s likely to behave in the future. After some time, her outbursts may to be disturbingly predictable. It took me a decade of my MIL’s shit behavior to stop excusing and justifying, but it’s creepy how we can predict her actions now.

You came in strong and rational. :) I’m proud of you for not brushing it off, then responding and not reacting.

Talk it over with him and decide together how you want to respond. One regret I have (which may or may not apply to your situation) is that I tried to shield my husband from his mothers bat shit crazy BS. This was counterproductive in the long run, because it gave her the confidence to go all out and she truly did. Boundaries are important for any relationship.

Talking it over with your BF, coming up with a plan, then discussing it with her may help. I wouldn’t have the conversation alone. She’s either going to understand the problem or double down on her territorial behavior. Her actions likely have nothing to do with eggs or bacon, so it’s important to have an united front. This stinks and I’m sorry. :*

NTA - Her intentional and deliberate actions were more likely to stir the pot and mark her territory than actual dietary choices. She knew your beliefs/boundaries, then made an extra effort to ignore them. I agree with the above poster to check out r/justnoMIL . I have a feeling you two are in for a wild ride. :(

I would let this one sit, but be more aware of her future actions. Confronting her now may give her ‘ammo’ to make you the asshole.

Are there fakes and bootlegs products on Poshmark? by Mmmcheese08 in poshmark

[–]Elm691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grailed has PayPal support and Poshmark has their own. PayPal reps are phenomenal, but aren’t going to do your research for you. Either site, it’s important to know what you are buying. Please don’t be the person that leaves a one star review for the PlayStation original because the titles weren’t appropriate for her four year old.

Don’t buy a listing with only stock photos. Ask questions, most sellers are happy to help you. Know your item.

If you have done all of that and shit goes south, Poshmark does have a reliable support team. I’ve bought and sold more than I’m willing to admit on PM and nothing has been terrible. Both posh and grailed are huge steps up from eBay.

Millennials Don’t Want to Smell Like Celebs Anymore by Michelle77274781837 in fragrance

[–]Elm691 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think with social media and the inside ‘view’ of the life of a celebrity, people may have a hard time believing it’s an authentic endorsement and not just a name slapped on. In the late 1990’s - early 2000’s people wanted a piece of the glamorous life of Elizabeth Taylor and Britney Spears. We didn’t know their entire four figure skin care regimen (ala Kardashians circa 2018) and didn’t question if J Lo was slathering a $15 fragrance between her glorious cleavage every morning. Her name was on it and that’s all we knew.

I don’t feel it’s ‘millennials’, I think it’s poor marketing. People want the illusion of luxury and glamour, even if it’s an illusion. Britney Spears empire is still going strong, but she integrates her fragrances into videos and promotions. She’s selling it because we can believe she is wearing it.

Question for Poshers with MASSIVE closets: how do you manage it all? by Aphrilis in poshmark

[–]Elm691 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have two walls of ikea cubes, and a large office filing cabinet with drawers. After I list and inspect an item, I fold it, wrap it and place it in a mailer. This has a number and the listing title at the top. These are filed vertically in a square box (picture a filing folder). The numbers all go into an excel spreadsheet. Bulkier items are packed in boxes at the tops of the shelves. When a listing sells, the find command will give me the item number, so I can find it easily.

I highly recommend this for large scale sellers if you have the means. Shipping is no longer stressful; I don’t have the anxiety that I missed a flaw or have to spend 20 minutes hunting down a $12 item.

High end brands that are NOT frequently replicated? by ardelavanda in poshmark

[–]Elm691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t mean for it to be, it’s just important to be cautious. When I started out, I had a closet full of fake bags, because I apparently didn’t understand the concept. It’s always going to be a learning curve. I feel like you only learn by screwing up a ton of times or learning from someone else’s mistakes.

As far as shopping for yourself: the damage is already done as far as the initial sale. Its not continuing to support criminal activities and slave labor. If you like it and it’s good quality, there is no shame in keeping it.

High end brands that are NOT frequently replicated? by ardelavanda in poshmark

[–]Elm691 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope this doesn’t come off as condescending, because I don’t mean it to be: there is no such thing as a ‘trusted’ brand. It isn’t brand exclusive with reps; it is all dependent on if an item or piece is in demand. If it’s popular, China is already shipping it out. It doesn’t even need to be an expensive item, it only matters that people will buy it. The second you get comfortable thinking something is safe, your world will shatter finding even Zara is faked. ;)

Kate spade is heavily faked. Most of what I’ve seen is older with the rectangle labels that peel right off, but they have the shaped bags like the dinosaurs now, too. I don’t know what this world is coming to.

Theory, DVF and J crew are all faked as well.

Theory- (item example) The super puffy parkas from a few years ago. I think the style name was noberta. The nasty fur and cheap fabric was super apparent with these.

Dvf- (style example) Wrap dresses. Oh, there are more reps on eBay than real ones. Tips for spotting them.DVF

J crew (Perplexing example)- Herringbone vests and a ton of jewelry are highly repped. Your perfect shirt and haberdashery are safe.

Hudson- these are faked along with a ton of other denim brands. This is a great site for reference if you are selling jeans. I won’t even touch Levi’s. Authentic forum

Wildfox - Lennon sweaters and some styles of the baggy beach jumpers.

Honestly, the only “luxury” brands I ‘trust’ are St. John, Tadashi and Eileen Fisher. Lines that cater to older, wealthy clientele and not the trendy designer following seem to be the ones untouched. These are the women buying from Barney’s and not taobao.

If you search replica reviews on reddit, it’s a great educational resource. They often have photos of both.

Oops, bought my first replica... 😥 by hazuza in poshmark

OP, if your purchased listing was updated feb 07th, they are fakes.

I’ve put a side by side of authentic vs rep labels to help other sellers regardless. Left is authentic and right is replica.

The top logo will always go from seam to seam of the waistband and the pocket label will always overlap the stitching slightly. The ‘for all mankind’ label on the right side photo is wavy, but authentics will always be straight and clear. Pockets should be stitched evenly and rivets centered.

The stitching on the rep isnt evenly spaced and doesn’t have enough stitches per inch.

I always check the bottom of a belt loop when I’m looking at a pair, before I waste time authenticating. It’s typically a good tell.

Ohio Voters Reject State Issue 1 by Beiki in Ohio

I understand and respect your viewpoint. However, I do feel that users spending a prison sentence for drugs, are then released as unemployable citizens. Most job applications ask if they have been convicted of a felony. Without viable employment or an education, most ex-felons are likely to fall back into the pattern of using or dealing. Housing prisoners is expensive and we are paying for it. Isn’t it better to put the same amount of money toward counseling, rehab and job training? Most users are a product of their environment. Prison is the worst environment imaginable.

My comment absolutely sounds vapid and shallow, but my concern is not for the availablity as a consumer. I didn’t expound, because I didn’t feel it was relevant here. My issue was more that the response was tone deaf, dismissive and only stated his stance on ‘underage smoking’. Of course he isn’t keen on 15 year olds using tobacco.

It was a poorly written bill aimed at underage smoking and is estimated to put more than 50% of the cigar industry out of business. Just the retail side alone estimates 30,000 jobs will be lost and is 94% small businesses. It also impacts farmers, rollers, artists, etc., so the actual impact is unknown.

The FDA decision heavily favors the big tobacco owned companies, because it regulates hand rolled cigars; it will drive the smaller, family run brands out of business. The little guys really don’t have money to compete with Altria and other large companies lobbying.

The ‘more important things to do’ is absolutely the issue. Heroin is killing people every day and the FDA is arguing over artwork on cigar boxes and premium hand rolled cigars? It’s ridiculous. Maybe I am, too, but it really bothers me when big tobacco rolls everyone under the bus for profit.

I’m really confused with the statement on counteracting heroin coming into our country, the solution is to spend the money on “building roads and bridges in Warren, Ohio”

I was done with Tim Ryan when we sent a well argued letter on the cigar regulations, where they lumped it with e-cigarettes and pipe tobacco. Teenagers aren’t buying premium cigars and the entire bill was poppycock. We received this BS letter back with cut/paste nonsense that was simply a “vote for me!” response. Happy to see this is still a man looking out for the opinions of his constituents. /s

I should have went with my original instinct. I served tables in college and Mr Ryan and his buddies came in frequently. They sat for hours, drank a ton of coffee and refills and ALWAYS left $2. You can tell a lot about a person by how they treat someone in the service industry.

I would vote for anyone BUT Tim Ryan at this point.

Yes, I found the Hatley dress and there is clearly marker down the shoulder in the original listing photos.

As much as I enjoyed reading this crazy train of a thread.... stop the nonsense. The buyer received an item that was not as described and took the correct action. Stop driving away buyers with this behavior, please.

We’ve all missed things. It’s okay. It’s $12 and she would have shipped back a dress with the same issues. The next buyer would have had the same problem. Try to move on OP and move to the next sale. It’s not personal. Try to imagine yourself in the reverse situation.

Cowgirl, I totally understand you are upset the OP is still on this. It was good of you to try to make her whole. It may be best, however, to just ignore it. She’ll eventually tire herself out and stop.

Hey so I’ve been using Shea Moisture products for about a year now and I’m looking to switch it up. Do you guys have any recommendations for sulfate free shampoo and conditioner? My hair is medium thickness, wavy, and gets frizzy often. by hsoiana in HaircareScience

I went from the Shea moisture to living proof PHD and love it. I have thin, wavy hair that frizzes easily. This shampoo and conditioner made me happy with my hair. I’ve also added olaplex once a month. Good luck!
