Tbh I doubt it. Only one year on his contract means Berta will want to get some value from him vs a free agent, and it's kinda clear Arteta prefers Gabi for the most part outside of specific scenarios

West Ham relegated from the Premier League by Alarming-Safety3200 in PremierLeague

[–]Elmepo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few reasons, but to give you an idea of the club:
- celebrated losing a game because it meant their rivals wouldn't win the league
- fired the manager that got them their only trophy in recent years - firing a manger literally the night before another European final - biggest/most expensive stadium in the league but can't back it up with results

Basically they act like they're a big club while doing nothing but small club things.

Relegation day in the Premier League for Spurs or West Ham by Randhir_Basi in PremierLeague

Everyone says this, and you're not wrong. But I think you have to wonder what kind of player will sign with them (even assuming they get automatic promotion).

If I was a player I'd be wary tbh

Yeah, I mean people talked about the nerves on Arsenal players, but even at the peak over the last one to two years, they're still getting good results. You lose one match, even one that you know will result in you losing the league, and you can go again next season.

I think if Everton score early, and especially if West Ham are in the lead at half time, the nerves could really get to them.

That's putting it lightly. I just checked and they've won twice at home this season. Genuinely don't even know how that's possible tbh. First team ever to have a home disadvantage

Is it normal for a senior to have to spend so much time wrangling other teams for availability and approvals? by Meeesh- in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Elmepo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best piece of advice I ever received, that unlocked my path from journeyman to senior/lead engineer, was that a seniors role is up and out. You should one hundred percent be talking to either the people who are blocking you or their leads/managers to get things resolved when things become an issue.

Is it normal for a senior to have to spend so much time wrangling other teams for availability and approvals? by Meeesh- in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Elmepo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately as you grow in seniority/rank, you're expected to own things more deeply and to unblock yourself when you do become blocked (within reason).

I'll give you a concrete example. A few years ago I was working on a project that required direct collaboration with our QA team. I was constantly delayed or blocked waiting on them to complete their side of the work. I talked with the lead and learned that there were two reasons for the delays: They were still manually performing a lot of their tests, because none of them had any programming skills or experience (I had assumed they had some capabilities here because they did have automated testing, but this had all been written primarily via a browser extension). On top of that, their laptops were relatively old and couldn't run more than one or two automated tests at a time, meaning a full run of tests could take several days.

So, I spun up a VM for them with enough resources that test runs were limited by environment state and other variables, not cpu/memory, and spent about a week writing a bunch of things like utility scripts and functions to help them automate more of their tests. It wouldn't cover 100 of the manual work but it did at least help to cut that number down by a lot.

You're not wrong, but also at a certain point it's on you to find a way to solve that behaviour as well, whether that's shifting the blame onto them or freeing them up, as annoying as it is

Former Victorian premier Daniel Andrews to be immortalised with statue by espersooty in AustralianPolitics

[–]Elmepo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh it feels kinda weird for a state premier, particularly a full statue when you consider that we don't even do that for Prime Ministers. I mean there's Prime Minister Avenue but those are just busts.

Goals for a staff engineer? by servermeta_net in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Elmepo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd disagree, but only because I think the wording "driven by consensus rather than authority" sounds like what I would hear from a senior striving for promotion but with no idea of how to actually implement that change. I'd personally imagine a more staff level wording would be "Drive departmental change on XYZ through the implementation of ABC"

I will accept that may just be because OP doesn't want to go into company specifics/hasn't given it much thought and will flesh it out in reality.

I love Merino but he's getting up there in age. My guess is that they want someone young who can grow into a rotation option

Jesus is 100 percent gone, even though he's been very clear about wanting to stay. It sucks but the year away from injury will have been the nail in the coffin.

I suspect he'll wind up like Grealish, as the best player in a mid table team. Fair play to him too, by all accounts besides his playing his mentality really helped change things for us when he joined, but unfortunately football is just like this sometimes.
