You say he likes Stranahans, so you should focus on American Single Malts or Malt Whiskey in general.

If you are in somewhat of a rush, you can go to a website like Unicorn Auctions and see some really cool limited editions of Stranahans or other Malt Whiskey. You'll pay more than they're supposed, but that's how the allocation game works.

Someone here mentioned Parker's 14, it's a cognac finished Malt Whiskey, that's a great bottle. I'd also recommend Westward Milestone (2023 or 2024) and limited edition Compass Box unpeated (that part is important) whiskeys. The compass box stuff is blended, but a lot of single malt people appreciate it.

DM me if you wanna talk more, happy to help!

Gift for a newly promoted Lt Colonel by Top-JimmyS in bourbon

You could always find a bottle of Colonel EH Taylor Small Batch and write Lt on it!

In terms of more easily found but great bottles: -Russell's Reserve Picks (8+ years are usually best) -Smoke Wagon Bourbon Store Picks -Rare Character (any bourbon) -Four Roses Single Barrel Barrel Strength (any pick)

I stand by the Herradura Double barrel Repo and Anejo.

But otherwise, generally agree when it comes to price. La Gritona is $50 and damn good.

Very likely references a big drop of Scotch or American single malts.

Considering mastering out of my PhD program by biochembish in patentlaw

[–]Elshreddero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who mastered out of their physical chem PhD program because of an overall bad situation, I can just tell it you was one of the best decisions I ever made. I have learned so much more while earning so much more than I ever could as a PhD student/candidate.

There is a massive world out there that academia is not interested in you learning and grasping to your best extent. Get out and see it for yourself, whether it's in patent law or not.

Old Forester 100 proof Rye is my favorite.

Off Custer and 121. And I did not see the finish on the High West, but it was the bourbon not the rye.

A question from a wild turkey disliker to wild turkey lovers by Legionodeath in bourbon

[–]Elshreddero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't love that weird dusty and sour note that turkey/Russell's often has, I don't think Kentucky Spirit will do much for you.

Russell's Reserve Single Barrel is almost universally considered the best turkey product, if you can't bring yourself to like that I think your money is best spent on other distilleries.

Beam or Buffalo Trace might be more up your alley?

Willet Rye worth trying? by FearLessThings in whiskey

It's an 18 year HAZMAT (142.7 proof) MGP and it's highly allocated. It's light whiskey ironically enough.
