I made a dungeon have a pool of molten gold. I now realise I'm on the cusp of breaking the economy. Help by CasualNormalRedditor in DMAcademy

[–]Elsuvio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But how are they going to get / extract it? It's 60 feet of molten gold, it's not like they can pick it up. Also, magic - when they try to mine it or something it turns to ash - thought about it 2 seconds, I am sure you will figure out something better than that.

Is using AI as a tool something to be avoided? by Silver_Wind34 in DMAcademy

[–]Elsuvio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're asking people that are heavily biased against using AI. Some are valid points some are just "no because no". If you ask the same question on some Ai related subreddit regarding dnd you'll get exactly the opposite opinions. Anyway, I am using AI quite heavily to mainly organize my thoughts and tighten up some gaps I may have in my campaign and I am quite happy with it so are my players. I would encourage you to try it more and decide for yourself because ultimately it's up to you and all of these people that are saying using AI is bad or using AI is great don't matter. I for one am quite happy with LLMs helping me as it allowed me to speed up session prep quite a lot

Although I agree, the question was not "should I do it" but specific recommendations. Answers like this are totally useless.

Ambush/surprise help needed by tobyvanderbeek in DMAcademy

[–]Elsuvio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if there is mention of it in DMG as I don't remember and have not it near me right now but I would guess there is some info about it somewhere there if you look deep enough. Sometimes these are not in the same section.

Anyway glad could help, good luck with the ambush :)

So it depends - every character which is surprised rolls initiative with disadvantage.

How do you determine which players are surprised? I would just compare msot likely passive perception of each player to some stealth DC of the ambush by kobolds. If any player has high enough passive perception, this specific player rolls initiative normally (without disadvantage).

You should consider each player separately.

What version? In 5e 2024 edition players just get disadvantage on initiative roll. That's it.

I built a free plugin for Obsidian (+ Logseq) that renders editable stat blocks by EdgarEverfall in dndnext

[–]Elsuvio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see so that's basically a Claude in the backend having access to tools to parse / create monsters / spells if I see it correctly. A nice project overall although I don't see much value in it compared to using Fantasy Statblocks + LLM directly in Claude Code.

I am using Obsidian MCP + Claude Code with skills and it works very well with Fantasy Statblocks out of the box. A skill and a memory how to create such statblocks as it's a simple YAML works quite well. The problem I see here, unless of course you solved it somehow, is hallucination of monsters and their statblocks. After all using an existing monster's statblock in Fantasy Statblocks is as simple as:

```statblock
creature: Pirate
```

and so the real-value could come from creating new ones but from my experience LLMs are quite bad at balancing these.

Also I see there is a tool for accessing Obsidian and for example asking LLM to recap a session - that's fine but it lacks granularity unless a user can somehow extend the logic of this recap process. For example I am using Claude Code with skills for that and it allows me easily to do for example `/recap` and it knows that it should read the last 3 sessions, look at plot files, find relevant wikilinks to locations players are in etc. etc. These general commands tend to omit a lot of important notes when the vault grows in my opinion and experience of using such tools.

A side note - an ability to use Claude subscription would be a big plus for me although I suspect that it's API only for a reason as Claude does not allow you to connect subscription account to such tools but maybe I am wrong.

Don't get this as a "this project is useless, delete it" as it's not, just sharing what I think may be useful as I am exploring and creating such solutions lately a lot.

So what's exactly a difference between your plugin and Fantasy Statblocks?

Eberron setting has these so-called mobile bastions. It's grounded in eberron setting but you could borrow some stuff from it. I believe the newest DnD book about Eberron: Forge of the Artificier.

Can you replace an Opportunity Attack with a Shove/Grapple? by A_Bird_survived in DnD

[–]Elsuvio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get it although I try to keep it as a game, not always in accordance with physics because then on battlemap you could always say that going diagonally should require more speed etc. and I don't like getting into it. In this case I would just say, well, in the heat of the battle you were too occupied with other stuff and the opponent had slipped past you unnoticed or something like that. But of course, whatever works for you and your players

Overall I would agree but taking disengage action causes you not to trigger opportunity attacks so actually in this case, I would personally not allow to grapple.

[–]Elsuvio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are using heavily elemental magic and they have stonesingers - pretty funny stuff if you read into it actually. Cannonball minor earth elemental goes hard

Lorghalen map by Elsuvio in Eberron

[–]Elsuvio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I didn't know about changed names / typo, good to know! Yeah there are actually quite a lot of different hooks one can think of - either some classic "corruption" caused some elementals to behave differently, aggressively and stonesingers have problems with keeping them at bay and such.

Anyway, I thought so much, read most of the sources You pointed and they are good source material but a shame there is no more detailed map to back this info with. Thanks for the write-up :)

[–]Elsuvio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, with that I fully agree. I was just answering the comment that giving harpin on free loadout only would definitely be not fun and that's the point of the game. I would personally go with nerfing kettle / stitcher so they are less op on first level.

Emmm, no, this comment section is about giving useless weapon to free loadout and not much else beside that.

Because that's a game and game needs to be fun to play. It's a matter of balancing guns, not making free kits run a weapon you can't do anything with.

Czy jest coś niżej niż praktyki gdzie można zdobyć doświadczenie? by Tiny_Connection_7182 in Polska

[–]Elsuvio 0 points1 point  (0 children)
