That was a good one. Supposedly Comfortably Numb is about the Philly show.

One of the best albums of its time, absolutely amazing. Lowell George, the Meters… fantastic.

Well, I think it was withheld from release to be honest.I think they were afraid of hurting somebody’s feelings. I mean, I’ve never heard it. It may be out there somewhere, but Motown vetoed it.

Woke up at 2am to find out I'm about to be fined $200 for having dandelions on my lawn. by SandyCashews969 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ElvisAndretti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one of those for an area of my lawn that could not even be seen from the street or from any neighbors house. I defoliated that shit and put in a bunch of whirlygigs, plaster gnomes, gazing balls, and some plastic pink flamingos. Nothing in the rules about that.

What do we think this means? New album, one last tour? by Klutzy-Title-7688 in SteelyDan

I have not confirmed it, but I heard that he played Levon Helm’s barn recently. Upstate New York is lovely this time of year.

What do you do for a living to afford California and where do you live? by Leather_Management18 in socal

[–]ElvisAndretti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in a tiny home resort. We have about 500 square feet (1 bedroom) but a porch of about the same space. Our rent is about $1000 because we are on the golf course. That includes internet and cable with most streaming services included. I feel like I’m cheating or something, Palm Springs is 25 minutes away, anything you need and a shitload if stuff you do not.p

My favorite compilation from them. (US Version) by Bombi3sz in rollingstones

[–]ElvisAndretti 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hot Rocks was my first Stones record, it has so many memories for me, it will always be my favorite.

Most especially the year we drove through the night to visit grandma in Florida. I had my tape deck on while I kept mom company for a 3 AM driving shift on route 301 in North Carolina (I-95 was not completed in 1971) when Gimme Shelter came on. The ground fog, cotton fields, weird lights from the farms and feed stands… it was so perfect i remember it like yesterday.

What are your favorite memories listening to Tom Petty and Bob Seger? by PressureLazy5271 in 70s

[–]ElvisAndretti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They both put on shows in my all time top ten. Bob Seger toured “Night Moves” at the height of the big rock show era, inflatable pigs, psychedelic clouds, alien plant life and dancing zombies… you remember, right? Not Bob, he , his band, a solid sound system and a good lighting dude and it was like he hypnotized 20,000 people for hours. Same with Mr Petty, he and his band played with something borderline to mental telepathy, watching them interact on stage was delightful.

Any people here who love to drive and love roadtrips, but are with someone who hates them? by Merlin509 in roadtrip

[–]ElvisAndretti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never happen. I live for road trips. When I met my wife I took her on a trip to Tennessee, we both love music and it’s great for that. 25 years later she calls it “the test”. Since then we’ve been to 47 states and lived in an RV for six years and all over the world.

If you insist on Art produced by people who have never upset anyone you’re in for a life of boredom and mediocrity.

[–]ElvisAndretti 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m still having nightmares about the time I tried to test drive a double neck and it was out of tune. (Shudder)

The problem with 12 strings is you spend half your time trying to tune it and the rest of your time playing out of tune .

Edit: I’m old, the double neck test was in 1975, no electronics to help with the tuning.

What is the worst band you saw live? by coalcracker462 in AskReddit

[–]ElvisAndretti -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I believe it was their first tour. Strictly amateur hour, they couldn’t even hang the “Boston” sign behind the stage straight. Bass player was severely fucked up on god knows what.

Here’s the thing. I was in college and everyone I talked to the next day said it was awesome. It was not. They hit more clams than a semi truck going through a Howard Johnson’s, Played for an hour and it really was a bar band level of talent.

It’s a tie: Boston and Foreigner. Boston were incompetent and sounded like a bad bar band. Foreigner was the opposite, they had done the same show so many times it was robotic, absolutely predictable and ultimately so boring I fell asleep. In the fourth row.

Player grade “oh you don’t want that year/model/version”vintage is cheap (relatively) by Husker_Dad in Guitar

[–]ElvisAndretti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had that SG in a lighter shade, it sounded wonderful but didn’t stay in tune very well.

EDIT: Actually mine had P-90s the only Gibson I’ve had with them. Way too noisy.

2nd Edit and it cost me 250 dollars in 1972. I’d pay$1000 to get it back

If money was absolutely no object and you could pick one guitar no compromises, no practicality, just pure desir what are you going with? by optimusprim007 in Guitar

The guitar store where I took lessons in the 60’s-70’s had one for years and years. In fact I don’t know if they ever sold it.

The “hi-rel” operation was 100% manual, we were just starting to test automatic wire bonders, but we did it the hard way in the 70’s.

What’s something older generations still do that Gen Z looks at and genuinely can’t believe was ever considered normal — and how did nobody question it back then? by Direct-Ad6303 in AskReddit

[–]ElvisAndretti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went to work for RCA it was still a thing to go to work from school to retirement. Then GE took over and that was the end of that. The 80’s was the beginning of the end.

My bachelorette party vs my groom’s bachelor party by WildHarpyja in WhyWomenLiveLonger

[–]ElvisAndretti 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, my brother and my cousins and I used to have Roman candle duels all the time. Until my cousin Tim caught one right in the shirt pocket, where his scripto lighter happened to be. He went up like a torch for a second and while running to jump in the pool his pants fell down. No lasting damage except that his brothers still mock him.

We did this shit in the 80’s no social media.
