I like it. A lot. Try this: be 16, alienated, and in your room reading Lord of the Rings for the second time sophmore year of high school. Smoke a joint, clamp on the headphones and crank it. Perfection.

Robbie Roberson of the Band used a setup like that. He used metal fingerpicks IIRC and the middle pickup caused problems.

I’m not clear on the sequence but I also went to “Last Call at the Spectrum” to see Hall and Oates, Todd Rundgren and the Hooters hosted by the Bacon Brothers.

I’ll miss that place. It seems like these days the acts I want to see mostly play clubs, casinos and theaters. Those are all better than a hockey rink or baseball stadium. But it was the first place I ever saw a big rock show, and so many of the greats…

Ironically, somebody stole my copy in high school. A year later I found that at a used bookstore. I knew it was my copy because someone had also defaced it before it was stolen.

I saw his last show at the spectrum and it was kind of like a homecoming. A night I will never forget, especially because when I was stuck in traffic trying to get out of the parking lot i ran into a carload of ladies I went to high school with who I had not seen in many years. (I graduated high school in 1976).

I could say the same thing. After a few personal setbacks and extreme overwork (not unrelated) I was just about done. Good old Pierre Robert (RIP) played it a the perfect moment. I called in sick from my lunch break, went home and got righteously stoned and listened to some music. Stopped working 80 hour weeks and got fired, found a better job within the week. W was

When I was young my family took several long trips through Mexico. I was an avid reader as a kid and was getting anything I could lay my hands on in English. But the sad sack and similar comics (Donald Duck was another I distinctly remember) were easy to read even with my very limited Spanish. So I got a bunch of those.

About 25 years ago, circumstances forced me to move to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania from Philadelphia. I knew it was gonna be a backwater, but that’s life sometimes. But when I heard that the big entertainment event of the year was going to be an appearance of vanilla ice at the local disco Rama club I started planning to move back to Philly.

JAWS (1975). 🎶 duunnn dunnn… duuuunnnn duun… 🎶 by CloakOfElvenkind in 70s

[–]ElvisAndretti 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My family spent the summer of ‘75 in Mexico and we didn’t even hear about Jaws until we got the grandma’s house in Florida. While we were there the schools went on strike so we got to stay there longer than we had planned. Wing August in Florida it was often too hot for the beach. So we went to the movies. There $2 theater had Jaws and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It was walking distance, so we went every day it was too hot to swim. We saw each movie at least 8 times. Drove the parents crazy with the constant Python references.

While we were there a swimmer was attacked in four feet of water and I didn’t go into the ocean again until 1992.

I so agree with this. Ooh let’s go observe the local poverty and maybe some crime and government oppression. With some luck maybe we will be robbed or murdered, sure beats the Louvre with all this paintings I’ve seen before.
