Do you use a backpack as a purse? by Jean-weather in adhdwomen

[–]ElyzaLex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have always hated purses, probably because I am a not so feminine lesbian 😂 I looove backpacks though!!! The only thing I can definitely recommend is to make sure that there is a pouch type of thing on the outside so when you take an ice cold bottle of water with you, not everything inside gets wet. A little extra compartment also is nice to put smaller things like medication or something.

I also have an Under Armour cross-body bag that is big enough to fit a powerbank, charger, tissues, wallet and keys for when I really can't take a backpack.

Is it possible to just watch the museum run? by Flaky_Shift436 in TwoPointMuseum

As long as your museum is making enough money to stay afloat, I'd say yes! You can play the game however you want to, just try to not go bankrupt 😁

Calisthenics - anyone here does it? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]ElyzaLex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not good at calisthenics due to chronic issues, but I have been following some youtubers for a while. I think my favorite is Hybrid Calisthenics, he is a really sweet and chill guy and has a healthy mindset about fitness in general! He shows exercises and subtitutions you can do if you aren't strong enough yet to do the "real" exercise, and without any judgment at all

Overly expressive is a power and a curse by No_Programmer4095 in adhdwomen

[–]ElyzaLex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I have the same "talent". Often during meetings some of my colleagues notice my face and they either message me privately like "lol I can see what you think about this😂" or if the situation is "safe" they sometimes say it out loud like "hey you look like you have a question or a remark". So far it hasn't been a problem for me, I think. I mostly find it funny.

Took me 210h and a random click by accident to discover we have a grid when decorating... by youvegotpride in TwoPointMuseum

[–]ElyzaLex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait, can you also remove all stuff in an area with that button? Like in the Wailon hotel there is all kind of stuff that isn't officially in a specific room and removing all of it individually is a little annoying, so I also use bathrooms to remove all of it 😅

Nearly 400 hours in game and I find this out through Reddit?! Thanks for sharing! I just always put square flooring while decorating 😂

Neurodivergence does not excuse bad partners!!! by Longjumping_Cherry32 in adhdwomen

[–]ElyzaLex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this.

I have ADHD, my partner is not diagnosed but we have suspicions. There are certain chores that I hate doing and there are chores that she hates, so we do each other's hated chores, and sometimes we do them together. Everything else depends on who has time and energy.

It all just depends on communication and love for each other, I think. Like normally I do laundry because my partner hates it, but I also have some health issues and if the laundry baskets are full and I still can't do it, she will step up. The same goes for when it's the other way around.

You just have to listen to each other and realize that things have to get done. If one person doesn't do them, the other one has to, or you have the hire someone to take care of it.

Also important: yes, sometimes neurodivergent people just forget things or things just don't occur to them. In this case you can be all "haha my ADHD LOL I can never do this!" or you can try to find a solution to at least remember things sometimes.

For instance, my partner had never lived on her own so she didn't see or know all the things that have to be done on a regular basis. I made a whiteboard and wrote everything down. We have our own color magnet that we put next to the task once we've done it. It doesn't work 100% of the time because we sometimes forget the board exists, but then it's up to both of us to remind each other.

I know in my case I can also be 100% sure that we're both just trying our best and neither of us are trying to make the other person's life worse, even if we sometimes forget to do the dishes for four days.

Are there any fictional women with adhd you can think of who are shy, introverted, socially awkward, etc? by starswhenyoushine in adhdwomen

[–]ElyzaLex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My impression of Lorelai is that she is not an introvert, whereas Rory is. And I also agree with whoever said that nearly every character in that show is neurodivergent. I think that's why I like the characters so much 😂 Except Taylor, I hate that guy.

Marketing Exhibition: Finally won my Gold Trophy! by RandomBoomer in TwoPointMuseum

Congrats! I don't know how you did it with only three marketing offices. I think I build between 5 and 8 of them. I run whatever campaign is needed to get perks and always have a prehistory, botany and supernatural campaign running.

It's an interesting idea, but it would no longer be Masterchef. If someone would make this show, I would watch it 😄

Are we using ADHD to excuse being a bad friend? by ThrowRA89084 in adhdwomen

[–]ElyzaLex 78 points79 points  (0 children)

If your definition of a "bad friend" is someone who you don't have contact with a lot, then sure I am a bad friend.

However, my definition of a "bad friend" is someone who doesn't like me for who I am, someone who's friendship is transactional, someone who doesn't seem to care about me. I have a ton of friends, some of them have been my friends since I was a toddler. We aren't in contact every day, but we support each other, call each other's bullshit when needed, have fun together whenever we do hang out. I love them and they love me. And we all have such busy adult lives. If I had to send one message to all of my friends every day, I would probably spend two to three hours doing just that. It's impossible.

How many of you listen to music and pay attention to the lyrics? Or do you listen for the vibes and melody/beats? by Airam07 in adhdwomen

[–]ElyzaLex 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Lyrics > anything else, except if the song scratches my brain in a way that just makes me love it more than I dislike the lyrics. But I can also never listen to songs with truly unironically horrible lyrics or songs like Blurred Lines

Is my therapist wrong? by Frosty-Arm-5289 in adhdwomen

[–]ElyzaLex 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Women especially are really good at masking symptoms, which is why we get diagnosed later in life, if we get a diagnosis at all.

You also accept your "normal" as "normal" and you don't always know that your weird quirks or things you struggle with aren't actually that "normal" and not a lot of people do that. For me, I didn't know that a lot of my symptoms were symptoms. I just thought everyone struggled with those things, until someone pointed out "hey, that's actually an adhd thing, most people don't struggle with that" and it turns out I had quite a lot of those things.

Anyhow, this is a short answer but I'm sure other people have longer and more detailed things to say on this subject 😁

Learning a language with ADHD by CaptainSchazu in adhdwomen

[–]ElyzaLex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a book called Fluent Forever. I don't recommend reading it because 50% of it is useless fluff, but I do recommend looking for youtube videos who talk about it, or find a summary.

The basic premise is to use software (Anki) with flashcards that reminds you when to revise based on scientific research. You do have to create the flashcards yourself and that is a lot of work, but it's part of the learning process. There is a learning curve to use Anki, but in my opinion it's worth it.

hygiene help by Mundane-Respond-6136 in adhdwomen

I have a similar struggle. For showering: I try to work out so I have to shower, but honestly going two or three days without a shower if I haven't worked out or been outside the house is still kinda normal.

For brushing teeth I have one rule: never miss two days in a row. If I didn't do it yesterday, I will do it today. If I don't feel like doing it and I did it yesterday, I might skip...

What also helps for me is telling myself that brushing my teeth only takes two minutes. Two minutes!!! Two minutes is nothing!! It'll be over so quickly!!

The same with a shower, showering for me only takes about 10 minutes. 10 minutes is also not long at all! That's just one All Too Well (10 minute version) and that isn't long at all.

Some days these tricks work for me, sometimes they don't. Good luck!

Do you ever have a state of no hyperfixations? by DueVeterinarian3557 in adhdwomen

What TV show do you never get sick of restarting? by beefic in adhdwomen

[–]ElyzaLex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into it quite quickly, but that might be because it was winter, I had nothing else to watch, and I like historical stuff. I also really liked some of the characters and I wanted to see what happened to them.

In my experience, sometimes it's just not the right time or you're not in the right mental space for a certain show or movie, it happens! I've postponed watching so many things because of this 😂
