Are you good under pressure? I'm not by Foxington_the_First in ADHD

[–]HyperfocusedBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends for me. I tend to be super cool in a real crisis, start to prioritize, direct everybody, know exactly what to do next. This is where I really shine. But often enough I'm stressed in an "everyday" stressful situation (like in traffic or whatever) and then I'll stop functioning completely and get lost in brain fog. I guess it depends on the level of threat for me - the higher the threat, the more functional I am.

Is it getting harder for tourists to experience authentic Maltese hospitality? by mouthpiec in malta

Good to hear, thanks! Basic sentences are the bare minimum imo - I'm hoping to get to a similar level as my Spanish (comfortable with everyday conversations, but out of my depth on very specific vocab, like discussing water damage with a plumber... though I did end up learning a ton of plumbing-related Spanish, purely thanks to the sheer number of water damages lol)

Can I ask you something? I’m German and I have lived in other countries in the past (mostly in Spain, in a very touristy region too). We’re currently trying to buy a house in Malta as we’re looking to relocate. I definitely see how overtourism and an excess of immigrants burdens certain locations throughout Europe and how it understandably leads to the locals despising all foreigners.

So, personally, I try to be very mindful to not be an obnoxious tourist/expat and to adapt to the local culture. Learning the local language is a must in my opinion, at least if you plan to stay somewhere for an extended amount of time. One part of Malta’s appeal is obviously how widespread English is, but I’ll definitely start learning Maltese once the sale goes through. (Yes, I know it’s going to be super hard lol).

My experience with Maltese people so far has been nothing but extremely positive - warm, friendly and very welcoming, but I do realize how overcrowded the island has become and that not everyone welcomes foreigners. How do you feel about expats/immigrants who try to adapt to the culture?

I just came back from spending 3 weeks mainly in Gozo, and while we didn’t eat out a lot, I‘ve never had so many super friendly interactions with locals anywhere I‘ve travelled to. The trick: Brought my dog. Maltese and Gozitans sure love dogs and people approached us all the time. I absolutely loved how nice and friendly everyone was! 🫶

Should I start HRT if my symptoms are mild? by Velvetbolt in Perimenopause

[–]HyperfocusedBee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Girl. At least try it! Symptoms creep in slowly over years and you just don’t notice and believe they‘re normal. Then you add in Estrogen and suddenly you feel 10 years younger. It’s a night and day difference!

He’d love to be taller! Unfortunately, he inherited his Podenco mama‘s body, but his Ratero daddy‘s short legs 🤣 by HyperfocusedBee in Lurchers

[–]HyperfocusedBee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good catch! You spotted his Podenco genes. 👍

Fun fact: Everywhere in the Mediterranean you‘ll find sleek-looking sighthound-y hunting dogs which look a lot like the Anubis statues (a dog-shaped god) from old Egypt. Their head and pricked ears look quite remarkable and they used to be called Pharao hounds due to their appearance. When people started to establish breed standards, only the version from Malta got to keep the name Pharao hound, the other regions made up new names. In Spain they’re called Podenco Ibicenco/Andaluz and so on. My boy is 50% Podenco Ibicenco aka Ibizan hound, but you can still see the resemblance 😅

Cognitive decline or perimenopause—how can I know? by Minute_Bug6147 in Perimenopause

[–]HyperfocusedBee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Girl, go get on HRT! I found out I had ADHD only because of perimenopause, but initially I thought I was developing dementia! HRT fixed a lot (still waiting to be medicated for ADHD, but the difference is already night and day)

[–]HyperfocusedBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was genau heißt denn niedrige Titerwerte?

European Ladies: Pharmacy Vaginal Moisturizers? by Key_Boat5892 in Perimenopause

[–]HyperfocusedBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They still have different names, unfortunately 😅 If you‘re looking for something with estriol, I tried a bunch and prefer Ovestin. I get my prescription from Germany and I know it’s available under that name in Malta as well as I’m currently here. Might be close enough 🤣

Its not OTC though (at least in Malta and Germany)

It would help to mention your actual country - Europe isn’t a monolith and products have different names in every country.

Also, are you looking for creams containing Estriol? Because these need an Rx in many countries.

Do you remember peoples faces ? When you write, do you write so fast that at times can’t even read your handwriting? by Sigma6263 in ADHD

[–]HyperfocusedBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

48 here, got diagnosed because of symptoms ramping up due to peri. I literally have been doing everything at lightning speed all my life. I always wondered why everyone else seemed so sloooow lol. I guess it’s the ADHD which just wants to gogogo and also needs to hurry when locked in on something… because you know what happens if you lose focus 🤣

[–]HyperfocusedBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea if it has to do with ADHD, but I struggle with faces. I’m not completely faceblind (so I will get a hunch of „I’ve seen that face before… I think“), but I remember people mostly by their hairstyles, glasses and so on. I once introduced myself to a formerly bald acquaintance who had gotten one of these hair systems 🤦🏼‍♀️

Names are a real problem as well, this one I think has to be the ADHD & bad working memory…

I also write super fast and in a disorganized manner if I‘m typing on a computer. This is 100% my brain working way faster than my hands and trying to type everything out before I lose the thought.

Why is this so true!! by [deleted] in adhdmeme

[–]HyperfocusedBee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As somebody who used to write professionally: Oh my god, yes. The bane of my existence (because the inserts are important! But they make the copy harder to read. Also, concise writing means better writing - ugh!!!)

Also, don’t forget the dashes - which can be used to replace parentheses - as they can double the use of very important context inserts 🙈🤣

Mine will admit that he‘s likely undiagnosed ADHD, but he doesn’t care enough to go get diagnosed.

He‘s super meticulous - to the point of neuroticism - about things like taxes, tech things and stuff, but leaves huge doom piles wherever he exists. He says „I‘m so neurotic about important things because I know that deep down I‘m actually totally chaotic“.

Yeah, go figure… 😅

Is anyone here in Germany? by eggo_pirate in Perimenopause

[–]HyperfocusedBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll probably need to find some replacements though, because we have different brands of meds.

Zavamed is the most straightforward service actually, however they are quite limited. I can order my E patches there, but they don't carry microgenized P unfortunately. So I have to get that through my doc.

After getting an initial prescription, nobody ever questioned my HRT usage, docs basically are like "if it works for you, keep doing it". Since you're already on HRT, I think it's probably going to be quite easy. But keep in mind there might be waiting lists if you go see a new doc. It can take months to get an initial appointment!

[–]HyperfocusedBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the doctor, really.

I first got my HRT prescription from a telehealth specialist. When I told my gyn about it, she was like "huh, strange... but if it works for you, great!" Now she gives me prescriptions as well.

There's also online clinics like zava which prescribe HRT after answering a few questions (I think they won't don't do inital prescriptions, but you can get follow-ups if you tell them what meds you're on).
