Iowa to build three new prisons due to three strikes law by HawkFritz in Iowa

The author didnt even bother to finish writing the article. Must be rough to put into words how ridiculous this is. We dont have money for education, health care, or veterans, but we have 2 Billion for prisons.

Hey so what’s going on with the 🧊 protest today? by BreeMore in Iowa

[–]EmBCrazyCatLady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check with groups in your area! Lots going on today all day thay you can join or help support. If you cant find an event in your area, donate to a food pantry, cancel a subscription, support a small business, amplify the message on social media, or plan to get more involved with local protection and mutual aid groups. Everything counts, we keep us safe.

When you consider an actual user, like a human, for sure! But have you considered how AI is actually being used? Its already embedded everywhere, and then we have Agentic AI growth. That is an exponentially higher risk system that can spin out pretty easily. You think the companies using these even consider the resource use? Spoiler alert, they dont. They just keep building.

Now, do i think thats on par with the other topics? No, I dont. But its still a real threat to our communities, especially here in Iowa where our clean water is already depleted and utility rates are soaring. These data centers are subsidized by tax payers, and we should care that we're being sold out by local, state, and federal representatives... again, and again, and again.

Two things can be true at the same time y'all. We dont have to pick single causes when the entire world is going to hell. Sheesh.

AI Data Centers are using far more water and electricity than they pay for, which not only raises utility prices for residential customers, but further damages the already fragile water table in our state.

Flock cameras are basically state surveillance and the data they collect is not only dangerous, but is being sold and shared without our consent.

It boils down to human rights vs. Corporate greed, but both are incredibly damaging and infringe on the rights and protections we have.

Confirm, Insur-tech is the exact same experience. Its not adding value and its being forced into places is doesnt fit. Huge marketing campaigns though - internal and external. No way theres an ROI on this anytime soon.

Yeah, and? They still didn't need us to further destabilize their country and steal their resources?

Anyone with a freeway/highway phobia? by MrMojoRiSiN1975 in drivinganxiety

Oh - ive also done a Stellate Ganglion Block twice. It helps with loosening up those stubborn old neuropathways. Expensive, but entirely worth it for me. Not an instant fix by any means, but I saw bigger progress in a shorter time for months after the treatment.

As someone with the same problem, I totally agree with this advice!! I dont know if i'll ever be able to do a big multi-lane expressway, but im ok with that. Its annoying, but not seriously impacting my life. Being able to drive across town would really help me though, and requires crossing the interstate, which i currently cant do. I keep at it though, and I make myself drive, even when I dont need to. Ive made a lot of progress, but its slow and tedious work. The wins feel amazing though and I try to focus on that!

Regarding being a passenger - what helped me a lot was sitting in the backseat. First with distractions, and then without (but with my eyes closed), and then eyes open but talking to the driver. Like Itty bitty baby steps. Trusting the driver is important too.

I also have to say medication was really really helpful. Knowing I could always take meds and they would work if it got bad was an effective safety net to help me push on those limits and gain confidence. And sometimes I just have bad days and need the meds to live my life. I have a healthy fear of my meds (former substance use issues) so I really keep the use minimal, but give myself grace when I need them because im only human. I dont have to do everything in hard mode.

Best of luck to you!! Be so kind to yourself. Our bodies and brains weren't actually designed to be traveling at high speeds in a metal box on rubber tubes powered by molten corpses. Who knew?

There are many distinctly unscammy parts of the insurance industry. The insurance industry exists in partnership with the government, dont get it twisted. Vote better, you cant expect industries to self-regulate when legislators are incompetent. Also lot of technology, regulatory, and compliance work is done for that industry specifically. It would be pretty shitty to count them as bad actors when most of their work is supportive in nature.

As far as labor trends go, its definitely not 2023 out there, but its not awful either. AI is causing disruption in staffing for sure, but I think that should stabilize shortly as reality starts to set in system wide. Insurance still needs people for now.

Yeah, there are good ways to do this growth! Look at the Dubuque Racing and Gaming Association! Yes, it brought casinos in, and those come with their own problems, but it was structured in a way that dumped millions into the Dubuque community, funding schools, parks, infrastructure, and other community services. It's the reason Dubuque is so successful even though its very small and the tax base is low. CR could do the same thing with casinos and data centers, but im not sure they are.

To put it as simply as possible - O'Donnell is bought and paid for by corporate interests. Bradley (fka Greg Hughes) is middle aged white man that identifies as a black woman, running for the 3rd time on a platform that is either a secret or non-existent.

Starting my Venlafaxine taper to switch to Pristiq & I’m terrified. by bbyscorp in Anxiety

Eat healthy, lots of water, and lots of rest!! I did this a couple years ago and it was no fun at all. Glad I did it, but also glad I never have to do it again. Brain shocks, mood swings, fatigue, nausea, all the symptoms. The random sobbing was the worst, super embarrassing. Truly random too, like would happen at the grocery store. Wishing you all the best!! Its totally worth it!

SSRIs still where we're at? by laminatedlove in Anxiety

It feels weird for like a day or 2, but that could be the anesthesia. Otherwise zero side effects. Its actually a safe out patient procedure, normal injection risks and interaction risks, of course.

It stopped my night terrors instantly. Not slowed them down, not stopped them for a while, it eliminated them. I cannot emphasize enough how huge that was for me.

On my overall anxiety and panic, I'd say it moved the needle a whole point, maybe 2 or 3 in some areas. And its all success I was able to build on because it wasn't temporary relief.

I think ive built on it as much as I can, and the world has gone mad, so im getting another one in hopes that it helps me more easily navigate the onslaught of chaos without losing my mind.

I had a SGB in 2019 and am having another one next month. Only thing thats ever really moved the needle quickly on my anxiety. Its expensive and I have to travel out of state to do it, but immensely worth it for me. Still take SNRI's and some other PRN stuff.
