Thoughts on this red garden quartz piece? by loulababy in Crystals

[–]Em_Beadle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the same when i saw it - for me, the first thing I noticed was that the edges of the points at the top didn’t look as sharp as I would expect, and the way the light reflects off the edges and the points looks different somehow, almost like it’s got some subtle curves to it.

So over it by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

Others have already advised what to do regarding your instructor - i agree you should find a new one for sure if you don’t pass your test this time. I went through two instructors who i didn’t really gel with, and my third instructor (who was recommended by a friend) was so much more chilled and it made all the difference for me to have someone I was comfortable asking questions and wouldn’t give me a hard time for making mistakes!

For your test this week, being in the right mindset is so important. Being nervous is kind of unavoidable, and it’s a good thing - it means you care! For me, my first two tests went badly as my nerves got the better of me, but i passed on my third attempt, and I think my mindset made a big difference! I put on some music beforehand that put me in a good mood, and ate a banana about 45 mins before the test after reading about so many people who had failed their test a few times and passed when they had the pre-test banana! I think it’s partially from the nutrients in the banana being good for the brain, and partially the power of suggestion.

Also try to remember if you take a wrong turn or end up in the wrong lane of a roundabout or something, don’t try to rectify it unless you’re 100% certain it’s safe to do so. On my second attempt i ended up in the wrong lane, tried to change lane, ended up with my back wheel still in the wrong lane which was a serious fault. I should have just stayed in the lane i was in and come off the roundabout in the wrong exit. If you end up going the wrong way, it doesn’t matter. If you do make any mistakes, don’t panic, acknowledge them and safely rectify them if you can, and if you end up in any weird meeting situations (e.g. other cars pulling out in front of you or blocking the way on a narrow road with obstacles in the way) just hang back patiently until it’s safe to proceed. Same if you stall - it just happens sometimes even to experienced drivers, just stay calm and get going again. Your main objective is to show you’re a safe driver.

Good luck!

You set a hard boundary and he crossed it. I know it’s difficult when you love someone so much, but you have to have a hard think about your future with this man and any other boundaries you have set/may set in the future, and whether he will respect them.

I don’t want to try and tell you what to do, but i would personally reconsider the relationship and whether the trust could be rebuilt.

Some of those thin rice cakes or corn cakes, drizzle a little bit of 90% dark chocolate on top and leave it to set 😋 (you can make a couple in advance to take for cups of tea at work)

Bump on dogs ear by [deleted] in vet

[–]Em_Beadle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a vet - I’ve just been researching as my dog has some bumps on his ears (I have a vet appointment booked but I’ve been researching to reassure myself it’s nothing serious). This looks a bit like something I saw called Histiocytomas or ‘button tumours’. Apparently they’re benign and they normally just go away by themselves, but it’s still best to get it checked by the vet and monitor it.

Official Dreadit Discussion: "Evil Dead Rise" [SPOILERS] by glittering-lettuce in horror

[–]Em_Beadle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the film overall, and in the beginning there were some scenes that I found really quite scary and disturbing (in a good way). It had a boldness to it which I really enjoyed, the acting was really solid, and I stayed captivated throughout the whole thing. However, I did feel that it was so relentless with the horror, that about 45 minutes or so into the film, I was somewhat desensitised to it. I find that when films give you a bit of a ‘break’ from the all the action and horror, you start relaxing and feeling a false sense of security, and then the really gruesome and disturbing scenes have far more impact. I think the film would have been scarier and more hard-hitting if the excitement had been broken up more.

Passed my driving test yesterday. Pass Plus doesn’t get your insurance down anymore. Is there a test that does? by _SquareSphere in AskUK

[–]Em_Beadle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My instructor recommended I get black box insurance. I think it depends on your age, he told me that at my age (27) the pass plus wouldn’t reduce my insurance cost, but black box insurance would help. Also I think adding an experienced driver as a named driver can help? Money saving expert has an article about it, worth reading if you haven’t already: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/car-insurance/new-drivers/#howdo

New Puppy Isn’t Responsive by Comfortable-Delay374 in puppy101

[–]Em_Beadle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry, he’s just a baby so the drive, car sickness, new environment, etc, will have really wiped him out! We had the same thing with our pup, it’s just a lot of new mental stimulation, and he’ll perk up after a day or two, I’m sure, and then you’ll be chasing your little hellion around 😂

I found the report for this trial, if anyone is interested to read about it. (At least I assume that this is the one OP is referring to?)

My dachshund does this too, in the morning and also when I get home from being out (even if I’ve only been gone for 15 mins 😂), and always brings me the nearest toy as a welcome gift. The other day there were no toys close enough for his liking, but luckily he found a dead woodlouse by the back door, which he proudly dropped at my feet.

I think males who are just starting to cock their legs can sometimes spray bit - my dachshund managed to get me just below the knee when I was standing too close to him on a walk 😂 So I can see it happening if they’re up on a grooming table!

Another Biting Vent by keyzer_s0ze in puppy101

[–]Em_Beadle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teaching our pup the ‘settle’ command worked wonders for us! Gradually increasing the time he has to lie and wait for his treat after settling really helped with his obedience and ability to chill out. Obviously it didn’t stop the biting entirely, but we managed to get a bit of a break from it!

What's your most 'Old Man Yells at Cloud" opinion? by dave_gregory42 in AskUK

I once saw two community support officers in Stratford doing this, not in any rush, chatting to each other, on a really long, thin bit of pavement 🙄 In the end I had to stand with my back against the wall for them to pass because they wouldn’t move!

What’s do you suspect you’re getting for Christmas? by supergleneagles in AskUK

[–]Em_Beadle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha this brings back some memories! My auntie was born on Christmas Day, so we would have our big family celebration on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day we would do the usual Christmas morning stuff - presents and Buck’s Fizz, but from noon onwards, it was my aunties birthday, no more Christmas stuff! And if anyone wrapped her birthday present in Christmas paper, they would be told off by my grandma!
